Do promos use different matchmaking or something?

Two feeders two games in a row, one of them being my ADC who sincerely thinks they can tower-dive the Leona (you know, the champion with one root and two stuns) and another ADC who tried but still, in the end, was caught plenty of times pushed past the river for no real reason at all, not even taking tower and ending up ganked numerous times by the entire enemy team. He never learned to ward, either.

Next game, a Karthus who was AFK for around three minutes, giving Brand freeroam Bot and Top in that order, topped off with a Yorick who kept calling everyone trash, even as he was going 0/5.

Does it, legitimately, just try to force the first promo to the next League to be a loss? It really feels like it, and it is legitimately the most frustrating and unfun bullshit I've had to deal with, yet, in League.

Rito's matchmaking automatically finds players who are near ban status or have been repeatedly reported for feeding or are known to be terrible who are near your MMR and matches you with them to trap you in Bronze 9000 forever driving your need to climb to force you to forever be bound to League.

I mean at least that's what it feels like.

Usually when you climb up and are in promos you're MMR is higher, but in being so you're playing with the bottom of the barrel of that MMR.

That actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

It isn't necessarily so but it does happen a lot. Check your games at op.gg and compare other player's MMR if it is any help to you now.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: no, for real, they really don't. The matchmaking doesn't even know whether you're in promos or not, it just looks at your current MMR.
