At least as far as normals are concerned I think they should just cave and give bonus stuff to those willing to queue the needed role. Some kind of hextech reward that can be combined into ip, keys or boxes or dust or w/e. For the benefit of the whole system. Bribe rather than force.

I would be willing to play support games at times for increased key acquisition. Otherwise nah.

Long queues and autofill has to be worse than whatever that'll cause to happen from time to time which is probably nothing more autofill does anyways.

Persuading a small % of player to play one game as support instead of mid/top would go a fair way to balance things. Can be tuned as a 1 game offer with a cooldown & meaningful reward, rather than a grindfest.

Thinking even further you would probably want to require the win for the reward to encourage proper play. Which maybe a source of tilt. May greatly encourage duo'ing with carries which might diminish the benefits of bribing supports to play in a little bit. Unless solo queue'ing the needed role is the only way, which is a bit weird.

Considering how amazingly hard keys are to get I can agree with this. I think this is a decent solution and I can't disagree.

However I still think bringing back teambuilder would just be better.

Maybe if they made support playing less traumatic, we wouldn't have this problem.

It's infinitely better than Season 2 support.

Low elo Season 6 arguably is worse than Season 2 support, mainly because as long as you bought wards no one could really speak against you.

Die too much because your team sucks at buying pink wards or the jungler happens to be right there--- and you're basically reported.

support isn't bad, its just that no1 wants to play it 100% of the time, i could stand it 30~50% of the time, but if i put it down as my secondary or offer it as my fill its guaranteed to happen. (except sup mains)

Unstoppable Monk1 votes

Yes, but why are people playing it less to the point where its the least desired role?

It's because no one likes getting toxicity and values their account enough to not play support in a non-team-slave manner. I quit playing roaming Bard/Karma on a frequent basis due to other people's toxicity. The fact is, people in low elos have manipulated the expectations of the role to be anti-fun AND anti-winning.

People's opinions believe that you need team permission to play off-meta (which is BS, people pick dumb meta choices all the time), but apparently you can instalock dependapottomus champions. Inequality in a role sucks.

its just harder to protect your carry than ever before. disengage is a rarity and its so much more valuable to get in there instead.

leading to people picking a damage dealing support like blitz/poke instead of a protective one like braum/thresh/lulu

season 6 just brought so much more damage with it and a bad support will lose the game.

"Disengage is a rarity" Not really. If you take the time to learn champions in depth, you will see otherwise.

That's one of the biggest problems imo. Mage supports like vel, brand and annie weren't that viable in higher elo since they lack utility, gold income to be relevant and are squishy af. Now you have dozens of gold options, masteries who bust your dmg early without items and now you frequently see vel koz supps carrying the game on their own.

FALSE i only play support 100% of the time. unless it is normals in a 4-5 man

Spaceman5pff1 votes

Support is only traumatic if you keep trying to make plays from behind and let yourself fall behind in EXP.

I've yet to play a Draft pick game without getting autofilled (or one of my allies getting autofilled). Yesterday I played vs an adc main who got autofilled to mid >.>

ModWulf Helhammer1 votes

That was the original plan, yes. But if you paid attention, when they activated it, there was no elo limit. It works on all things

I think I got autofilled once in silver, lmao.

Team builder would treat the symptom, not the cause.

The cause is that hardly anyone wants to be support because it's not rewarding for the vast majority of League players. Until this changes, neither the new champ select or team builder are going to work correctly.

It was still more efficient, and honestly that was only a problem some of the time. Sometimes it sucked, sometimes it was quite fast. Kinda like now actually.

BastionKross1 votes

If it's "kinda like now" then you're agreeing with me...? Bringing back team builder would be a slight improvement if anything, since any advantages you'd get would be countered by the "Waiting for support" thing that defined the queue times when it was available.

If all you're worried about is efficiency, then the older champ select is the most efficient by far since it literally forced every fifth player into being a support without the waiting time for the modern autofill to kick in. That felt absolutely horrible to be that fifth player, but the queue times were much shorter than the other two for obvious reasons.

No matter what system you use (the older champ select, team builder, new champ select) it's always going to have issues with execution since supports are in high demand. Even doing stuff like bribing players to play in demand roles would only be a bandage over a broken bone. The support role is the reason why role-based selection systems work so slowly in League, since seemingly no one wants to be one. Until the role is made more popular, no system like team builder is going to work well.

Yeah I got Autofilled in a Silver-ish MMR Normal game. Not that I mind but I didn't think Autofill was a thing down here in the sewers.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

I don't think I've seen autofilled not enabled for a couple weeks now.

It is rather annoying.

SanKakU1 votes

You're all picking middle though as your primary, what do you think is going to happen? They have to try to be fair to the people on your team outside of your party.

LostFr0st1 votes

Autofill happens at both ends; Bronze-Silver and Diamond+ regularly, especially at strange hours.
It's even in that autofill graph that they gave us in the devblog.
