"We Realize Potential in Dominion"

ModIts Yuu and Mi··252 votes·7,646 views

"We realize that people like this map, but not as much as we'd like.

We realize that we can change that, and make it a lot more open for other players. We realize that it can be improved and that we can make players enjoy it much more, and truly make it a vibrant game mode.

So fuck you.

We're taking it away."

Just a reminder that Dominion is THE ONLY GAME MODE WHERE YOU DON'T HAVE TO LANE

Jungle will now be the only way not to lane in the entire game.

3v3 - laning and sometimes a jungler ARAM - Everyone laning in the same lane 5v5 Shit ton of laning and 1 jg per team

Dominion - No laning straight to action

Wunna play league? Get in a lane - Riot 2016

Minarde6 votes

Poor Dominion bot-laners. You were not enough of a sacrifice to the lane overlords.

ValyrianBlade19 votes

ARAM isn't exactly everyone laning in the same lane...

Well, technically that's exactly what it is, sure.

BUT you start at level 3 with more gold than usual (so the hardest part of laning phase is over). CS doesn't matter very much at all because there are so many more kills and more passive gold.

ARAM is a permanent teamfight. No one calls teamfighting to siege an inhibitor turret on summoner's rift "laning". Just my opinion...

Now, if you want to say it's the only mode where your focus is not on destroying towers via sieging or split pushing, then I'd agree.

Tridem1 votes

I actually like to cs till level 3 :(

Solidair32 votes

Well in domi you START at level 3

Minarde4 votes

ARAM's more laning and sieging than it is teamfighting.

Early-game ARAM, you stand around, grab some CS, throw some harass, maybe land a couple hits on the enemy tower, and hide under your tower if you're losing. That's essentially laning. Mid- and late-game, you dance around, throw out some poke, maybe land a few hits on the enemy tower, and finally fight when someone gets caught out of position. That's standard sieging.

Unless you've got some strange teamcomps or some massively bloodthirsty players, you don't normally get teams constantly rushing into each other.

Yeah, but constantly rushing into each other is how aram SHOULD be played.

Minarde2 votes

Depends on what you're going for. I typically prefer "measured aggression" over "bloody deathmatch." Constant brawling is certainly nice occasionally, but it gets awkward if you're doing it regardless of teamcomp or cooldowns.

cocacolalips1 votes

You describe low elo aram games, higher elo aram games are bloodthirsty, unless you have 3-5 1k+ range poke mages on both teams, teams bump into eachother every 1-2 levels (waiting on R's cooldown)

Minarde1 votes

Are you speaking from personal experience of high-MMR games? Because from what I can tell, we're both roughly in the same MMR bracket.

Regardless, ult cooldowns are generally at least a minute early-game. Assuming a fight breaks out every minute, that's still roughly 30 seconds of posturing before the fight starts and 10-20 seconds of pushing while people are dead. Plus, there's the time spent pre-6.

cocacolalips1 votes

Both played + spectated.

I used to have close to 100 wins over losses, i stopped playing for some years, came back lost about 50 games and I'm bit below 50 wins over losses now and passive games are more common as your elo decreases. The reason is simple, the better and more familiar people get at the game or with their champions, the more confident and cocky they behave. They know how much damage they deal with their champion, and they will go for the kill every time you are out of position, and they will kill you, unless you make some outstanding play.

An average high elo aram game has maybe a score of 50-70 kills for each team by the 20 minutes mark.

Minarde1 votes

That reason's not quite as simple as you think. Sure, better players are more likely to punish mistakes, but they're also less likely to make mistakes.

Regardless, we're getting a bit off-track. I didn't say ARAM games are passive; I said they're not constant teamfights. Teamfights may occur often, but there's still a significant amount of time spent posturing before teamfights, waiting for cooldowns, and pushing/regrouping after teamfights, waiting on death timers.

cocacolalips2 votes

Being out of position =/= making a mistake.

With the introduction of snowball, you are essentially always out of position, when the danger zoned used to be 500-ish range (dash/flash range), it's now 500-1000+ range, which is where everyone is regardless of skill.

A lot of aram games go like this = A gets caught by B and dies, B is now out of position and gets caught and get killed C + D, C+D are now out of position and get jumped on by E+F and die, A and B who died some time ago are now back and jump on E+F, etc. Hence I quote you, no real posturing waiting pushing regrouping..

The waiting on cooldown thing only really happens when one side is losing significantly, if you got stomped the past 3 fights and the score is 10-25, you most likely don't want to fight much again without your R to maximize your chances. When it's more even, you don't wait for cooldowns.

But again, that kinds of depends on the team compositions, if you have lots of poke and stuff on both teams, fights will consist of ppl throwing stuff in eachother direction more than any real brawling.

Instead of evolving the game on season S.I.X they are downgrading the game by removing game modes that exist not one or two or even three but for almost FIVE years.

Too bad they were shitty modes unplayed by 99.5% of the playerbase.

0.05% of 27 million is still 13.5K players which is still a large enough raw amount of people.

13k people is 100% insignificant compared to 27 million. It's nothing to a business like riot.

If riot think like that they will burn in a few years bec in the beginning they think "Wtf only 13k ppl thats so smaalll we dont need them" few months later "well only 50k ppl still a smaal amount" and it grows and grows untill everyones gone

They can't even get a working replay system out, you think they have time in their bloated "work at your pace" artistic echo chamber to actually do realistic analysis and find their faults?

Keep dreaming. this is minecraft all over again, they're going to streamline this and milk it for as long as possible, but riot games were never make another title of any worth. They stumbled onto their accidental classic ( and by stumbled i mean they stole dota hero community designs, don't think we've forgotten pendragon you hack ) and they know they don't have the talent to make anything else of worth.

Most people I know who have been playing since the beginning have left. A lot of them just grew up and lost interest. For me on the other hand, I just do not like where the game is going.

I dont like the game as much as others because the 5v5 ranked games take too damn long in bronze and silver elos plus the unranked guys that are just burning theyr life away with like 1.30 hour lasting games (including champ select) in my eyes its just not that good of a game to waste that much time on 1 match

It basically comes down to: Dominion can't be marketed to be a part of a pro scene or the LCS, and isn't Summoner's Rift, so they can't be bothered to update it. It's the same reason Twisted Treeline has been all but abandoned outside of adding those random turrets last year before it was ignored immediately afterwards.

Only reason TTL isn't being deleted is because people play it in ranked. You notice riot still isn't bothering to do any sort of balancing (items or otherwise) to it. It will likely be next because it can't be marketed with the LCS, and that's all they very clearly care about 60% of the time.

Dominion also had no notable fanbase. Literally a few weeks after it was introduced everyone bounced away from it. That 0.5%? Been like that since season 2. It really did have no reason to stay.

Xonra2 votes

It also wasn't handled positively like other modes. Twisted Treeline got a full update at one point with the release of Elise, and has a ranked mode.

Dominion got no ranked mode despite being promised one, looks rather outdated as even Riot admitted, and had little to no balancing to items. Not to mention it is very different with no traditional lanes and the tower mechanic is very different. It needed some TLC and a little attention from Riot and was completely ignored.

I mean you can't expect people to play it when it was abandoned years ago comparatively to even ARAM. I'm not saying I loved Dominion, but I am saying riot is 100% to blame for it's lack of popularity as they did nothing to give people a reason to play it compared to TTL and ARAM. sure it's wasted today, but that easily could have been avoided years ago.

They've **tried **with TTL don't give me that shit.

They did a whole event and relaunch of it with huge changes, new items, and whole new map visually and design wise when elise released, they tried really hard to make it work.

It didn't boost the popularity for more than a few a months, what the fuck is riot suppose to do make people like it? They can't realistically put the same amount of resources into it as SR because they aren't that big of a company for that, their resources are finite.

So they tried going all out on it and didn't generate increase in interest like they like hoped it, it's no wonder they didn't do the same for dominion after how the TTL relaunch went.

You can blame riot all you want, but the reality is even when they tried their best for a non-SR map, the community just wasn't interested overall to any significant levels.

As if they didn't do a launch thing and try with Dominion before. You are throwing a hissy fit there (seriously you sound really salty about something), but the reality is, Riot admitted (which you seem to be missing with getting mad about me blaming Riot) that they dropped the ball on Dominion. They admitted that a part of the reason people lost interest is their failure to fully give it attention because it isn't Summoner's Rift.

I mean they say "Yeah, sorry guys we were partially to blame" I say "Yeah, you are, it's frustrating" Then you respond with "How dare you blame Riot"

Cerbearus19 votes

Kinda what happens when Riot IGNORES the game mode since release. They don't talk about it, don't promote it, don't update it, they just expect people to find it on their own and hope they like it.

To be honest, all I think they had to do was release a ranked queue for it like they promised before it even released.

Unbalanced? This map has always been more balanced and playable than the snowballfest that is SR right now.

R2D2015 votes

I initially was drawn to Dom because I didn't want to lane or CS, 50 minute games were common and 20 minutes felt like a much better use of time to learn champions and match ups.

"Fewer than 0.5% of players actively play Dominion and we’re aware some number of even that small population is still bots. We haven’t been supporting Dominion, and we’ve trapped ourselves in a vicious cycle where the queue isn’t large enough to warrant major attention, but falls prey to bugs and periods of imbalance from the introduction of new champs and items (which then drives down the size of the queue, and so on)."

Where was the major outcry for Dominion support before this happened? Somebody responded that the map should stay because there are about 80 people playing it every day, in the entire NA region. Really? Zero point five percent. Nobody plays it. I would like to see it getting support and a playerbase, but...it's just not there.

xxfay66 votes

It doesn't get support because it has no players, it has no players because it doesn't get support, ad infinitum.

SoMNia2 votes

Unfortunately. I'm not fully aware of the mode's history, but at some point, it was a new game mode, and over time, it failed to attract enough attention to merit devoting resources to its maintenance. I'm not clear on whose fault that is, exactly. Whether it was poorly advertised, whether Riot failed to maintain it when it was getting attention, whether it simply never had enough of a playerbase at all...I'm not sure. It's sad, though. I think the game could use a little more variety, and objectives different from "push through towers and destroy the nexus" are probably the best way to achieve that.

Doctor Ivellius1 votes

It's really Riot's. They promised ranked queues, even had them ready but just needed to turn them on (according to Riot). Over time, people got tired of trying to find games on it and seeing no support, so they quit playing it.

Voluug131 votes

Also, Riot has outright refused to fix the boting, which was a mayor problem for YEARS.

There actually used to be a fair amount of people playing it. I think last year or the year before that, I could queue up and get in a game in less than a minute, but the problem is that Riot has literally done nothing to alter dominion or adjust for dominion in a really long time. On top of that, due to the large amount of botters on that map, quite the number of players have left as it gets really stupid when the bot(s) on your team is feeding 10 or more deaths in a 20 minute game. Honestly though, as least from what i have seen mentioned in some threads, is that Dominion isn't even a map in some regions. or people haven't even really been told of its existence. If people aren't aware of it nor is it even playable in some area, why would there be a high percentage of players playing it?

Raoul1 votes

Dominion has nearly no players, the queues are hell long, and in like 80% of the games, half of the other players are farmbots. Thats a mercy killing, like shooting a old horse with 2 broken legs and a pole through his body in the head to stop the suffering.
