Hybrid Penetration Quints Too Underwhelming

I've been trying to figure out a niche for them but it turns out that even hybrid champions such as Akali or Evelynn have better choices. Everything in this game should have a time and a place to shine. These runes, along with many others such as Critical Damage lack a strategic niche. They are simply outclassed and I hope Riot will look to buff some of the most underused runes. Even a 10% buff on Hpen Quints would make me actually have to think when considering a rune page on some champions and I like that. I don't want to just mindlessly use the same cookie cutter runes with almost no strategic consideration.

They're much more efficient than mixing armor and magic pen, if you ask me. Buff them and they'll become overwhelming.

If anything, they're nice on poky supports like Lulu, who aa and use magic as well.

Or champions like Ezreal, who have lots of physical and magic damage sources in their kit.

%HP runes need a buff, dead before even being released... how sad.

I don't think Riot has recovered from the terror of full page Crit Dmg rune Shaco even though, now, they are absolutely worthless (sure would love a refund for those runes).

Honestly, I see Hybrid Pen as niche but not valueless. If they were buffed even a little bit above their current stats I think they would crowd out a lot of rune options for some champs. You can also get Mpen off blues and the armor pen is pretty solid.

I know this may sound stupid but nowadays, lot of things are becoming with less choices.

For example, going 9/21/0 is never used because it sucks compared to 21/9/0. Nightblue3 said this so go ask him if you disagree.

Also, building damage is not good for many champs like jax and irelia because they just get bursted. In fact, you can only build tank items with little variation.

Going hecarim jungle or khazix top is less viable to due nerfs. Hec has to go top and kha has to go jung to be most effective.

And what about spell vamp and energy per level runes? Lol. I regret buying spell vamp rune. So useless.

BUT. On the other hand, it does save IP or RP (for rune pages) if you use the same runes. I'm just pointing out both sides. 10% buff could be interesting actually and other runes as well. But could lead to vladmir being OP and other runes such as flat magic pen or armor pen useless, etc.

Hybrid Pen runes are fine. If you're playing a mage with a decent auto attack range, by running HPen instead of MPen, you're trading 2.3 MPen for 8.1 ArPen. If you auto attack at all to harass your laner, they're amazing for complimenting your spells during the early game.

Or mages with pets like Malzahar and Annie.

Marks are fine. I'm not sure about Hpen Quints (which are not even a full 2x of the marks). If they're so "amazing," name one champion on which Hpen Quints are considered best or are most popular.

I like to use them for my ARAM games when I roll a Fizz/Akali/Lulu. They are efficient for what they do, but shouldn't offer MORE or close to equal what a full Armor/Magic Penetration rune should offer or they would most likely be taken on every AP champion in the game.

they are ok but then gp10s are the most op in the game.

I use 1 Hybrid Pen Quint on my jungles runes pages, and help me clear more fast (I use 2 MS quint and 1 Hybrid Pen quint)

With Skarner, Gragas, Warwick and Sejuani this is a worth (that are my junglers).

WW and Gragas uses aa and have as steroid. Gragas and Sejuani have a enhanced aa that benefit of both pen.

Obviusly I use 9 hybrid marks too. So you build tank and the pens help u with the dmg.

The bonus damage coming off the machete benefits from this too.

Except jungle monsters have no MR, and thus no amount of MPen will ever increase your damage to any monsters other than Scuttler, Dragon, and Baron. Magic Reduction on the other hand will. But you can't get that from runes or masteries.

Armor Pen will work to enhance your physical damage since jungle monsters have from 5-20 armor. But so will flat AD runes.

That's funny, I'd read somewhere that you could do bonus true damage from having excess pen, but I've done some research and it turns out that isn't the case. Probably time to go rework some rune pages and downvote my previous comment.

Hybrid champs get pretty screwed in this game. It is especially difficult with the having so many hybrid defensive choices. Before you could see what the enemies were building defenses in and pump up the other stat to counter but now they are guaranteed to have both armor and MR so it's either build item 3135 ANDitem 1043 (making you either weak or squishy) or just be the guy that hopefully kills the adc (who will have GA {which is armor/MR} so you might kill them once but with all adc's having their own escapes and peelers even that can be impossible and you will NOT be able to kill them after the GA brings them back) or you just cost your team the game.

You've made enough duel defenses riot how about a duel offensive choice to balance the game out?

FYI this is a good point that makes a lot of sense... so you'll never get a red post because they only respond to superficial posts about skins, and even that has gone down since moving to boards.

I'm actually considering these on Kog'Maw. Although, I still find them a bit too niche overall and they probably aren't best even on Kog.
