Why does Riot never chime in on Thornmail discussions?

There's so much controversy over the item, and yet Riot constantly goes tight-lipped at the mention of it. Why is it nothing is ever talked about when people ask about Thornmail?

Probably because they aren't sure what they want to do with the item. A lot of Rioters who post on the boards also do so in their free time, not as part of their job. As such they reply to posts that interest them. If they aren't part of the balance team or don't have an interest in thornmail then they probably wont say anything.

Probably falls into not being sure what to do with the item. It is kinda stat checky. It is either overbearing or useless. Also Riot doesn't like to talk about things they don't have plans for because then all the players go "You said X but where is it" and Rioters are like "No, we said X was a cool idea. We never promised it or even implied it would happen." Players: "Give us X!"

It is a big issue with fan bases. I know people who just don't discuss their ideas with fans because then the fans get angry when those ideas never show up even though they were just possible ideas. The guy even did disclaimers when discussing his ideas and fans would still ask him when it was happening. That is why producers don't like discussing things until the idea is solidified and almost certain to happen.

I feel like Thornmail would be a much healthier item if the reflection damage was an active, instead of just passively countering any AD that doesn't have a wealth of lifesteal and penetration.
