After having some time to cool off, my feedback on the 2019 ranked system idea

Placements- I like this. Placements felt kinda annoying because of how it just threw you in blind, the quicker LP gain looks cool too.

New Matchmaking System- This is what got me fired up in the first place. There is 1 big thing I hate about this change. I STILL WANT AN OVERALL RANK. I care about my overall progression more than my progression in each role and I don't like that fact that I lose that. Giving everybody an overall rank would also help with the problem of people not trying because "this is my off role". You wouldn't be able to dodge or half-ass a game because you don't care about that role without having it effect your overall rank. Another downside to having no overall rank for (at least for me) is that I wouldn't be able to really see my progress at all. Looking back at previous seasons, whether that season uses the upcoming ranked system or the current one, would mean a lot less to me. With no overall rank, I would have nothing to compare my season 9 and beyond ranks to my season 4-8 ranks and I wouldn't know if I became a better overall player or not. For season 9 onwards, only a rank for each role isn't going to do me much good either. I play mid primary with 3 secondary roles (Top/Jungle/Support). I switch between the 3 based on the meta and how I feel about the role at the time. I'd get feedback on my growth in mid lane just fine, but for my secondary roles, all I would see in that rank is how good the meta was for me in those roles instead of skill growth. With and overall rank and a rank for the 5 roles, I'd be able to see both overall skill growth and how much each role contributed to that. And as I said before, I really don't want to lose that overall skill rating when my overall growth matters to me more than my growth at each role.

The thing I like about this change is that auto fill should be deciding far less game. As someone who wants competitive games, that can only be seen as a plus. I'd still rather not sacrifice having an overall rank for this though.

Ranked Rewards- I do have a suggestion for this. As stated in the article, it sucks when you spends countless hours trying to get back to gold only for the skin reward to go to a champion you don't play and for a role you hate. My possible solution for this is to make 1 Victorious skin for each role, that way you at least get a skin for a champion in your role(s). You would only get each skin by reaching gold at that role. Because the intent behind this idea is to show off that you're in the top 30-ish% at that role, you would only get the skins for each role you hit gold in. A player who's a gold mid laner but bronze or silver at everything else probably doesn't deserve a Victorious Braum, and giving it to them would devalue the skin IMO. Although if doing this would make the skins lower quality, I would rather just have 1 Victorious skin

As for things likes Twisted Treeline rewards and (if they add back overall rank) "My overall rank is Gold 5 but I'm silver at my highest ranked position(s)", I have no idea what to do about that. These are just my thoughts and ideas of how the 2019 onward ranked system could be made better on paper.

As you mentioned, it probably would lower the quality of each skin, since Riot would have to churn out at least five skins rather than just one. Also, even if the quality isn't diminished, grinding to Gold+ in seven queues for all the different rewards seems like a tremendous slog, especially with the season split idea.

I'm okay with "fairer" matchmaking, but positional rank (and rewards) seems like an absolute mess.
