The Fourth Champ in the Assassin Update

Okay, as we all know, Assassins are going to be the focus of the next class update, and three of the "Big 4" have been revealed:

Rengar Talon LeBlanc

However, in the LeBlanc thread, a Rioter noted that the last assassin to be getting the big changes is ALSO an AP champ. Now, that lists a few possible options:

  1. Katarina - Kat's been a bit on the weak side in higher ELO for some time, but she can roflstomp lower ELOs. In fact, she's at the point where a single buff could push her into pick/ban at lower ELOs. In addition, she is the epitome of feast or famine. If she gets ahead, she's unstoppable, but if she's behind, she's useless.

  2. Akali - Akali's been more or less forced into a tank build because her damage build's been hit so hard. Knowing how Riot absolutely HATES tank assassins, they could use this as an excuse to give her the rework she needs, however, a Rioter has also stated that she's in need of a VGU, so that might count against her.

  3. Ahri - Honestly, I can see the hatred of Ahri's mobility, plus the removal of one of her key mechanics (her damage amp on her E that was removed in Season 5 when DFG was removed), however, I think she's in a decent spot, and while I think she might get minor changes, she's not as high a candidate as some of the others.

  4. Fizz - Pretty much the ultimate source of hatred for AP assassins. Guy's in need of a full rework, no question.

Honorable Mention: Evelynn. Honestly, I don't think Eve will be one of the Big 4, as Riot's already stated she's due for a full VGU (slated to be after Yorick or Warwick.)

So, who do you think the 4th Big Assassin changes will be?

Ahri won't be getting any votes because she's classified as a Mage and wasn't listed in the Assassins they were thinking about updating.

"We will probably not be changing champions who use Assassins as a "secondary" tag. Honestly the tag system is fairly outdated and isn't reflective of the modern understanding of the game." - Statikk

As you noted, Evelynn is almost a guaranteed VGU champion for 2017.

"Evelynn for sure wouldn't be on the table for large work as she is super high on our list to get a full VGU though she could still get small work done." - Reav3

I didn't get the impression that Fizz will be one of the Big Four. Reav3 may have been coy when he brought this up, but it felt almost like a confirmation that Fizz was only going to get "some amount of work" which would not be on the same scale as the others.

"It is highly likely that Fizz will get some amount of work for the Assassin update." - Reav3

A lot of people have the impression that Akali is on the VGU boards, but I'm not 100% convinced that will be happening any time soon. I would really prefer it to be Akali, but I suspect that she will be getting Fizz level tweaks.

"Yes, Akali probably needs much more work then we could do in a roster scope project. She would be a good candidate for some smaller scope work though." - Reav3

I couldn't find any comments on Kassadin. Several posters mentioned him as being declared in a healthy state, but I couldn't find that in any of the major posts about the Assassin update in the Dev Corner.

All said, I went ahead and voted for Katarina. She doesn't really need a VGU and was specifically mentioned as an ideal candidate for this project.

"Still haven't locked down we will be working on yet, but I would say that Kat would be a great champion for a roster scope project, likely on the larger side." - Reav3

Edit: Nevermind. I found something on Kassadin buried in Talon's release.

"Not currently planned. We think Kassadin is in a decent spot both in terms of game health and uniqueness." - Statikk

She's NOT an Assassin. She's a mage. They've already gone over this with her previous rework.

I thought they had already said that Akali would be a part of the Assassin Update? Like back when they first announced it, they said that they were keeping her play style the same, but wanted to change her W and just do a few QOL changes?

Hmm, I'm going to try and find that News post they made about it later. If I do find it I'll link it here, but if Akali isn't a part of the rework with the Assassin update, and she's just getting her own rework period. Then I'd have to say it's probably going to be Fizz, maybe I'm just hoping it's him cause I don't like the little fish rabbit but still, I rarely ever see him played like an AP assassin any more, it's just a tanky bruiser.

Evelynn perhaps.

She is getting a VGU, so maybe a kit overhaul as well.

It's going to be Shaco, I just know it.

I mean, I don't 'know', but I know, you know?

i'm thinking Kassadin his kit is outdated and generally weak has only been meta once, and then he was 96% banrate

I swear to god if it's Ahri and they fuck it up ill stop playing... Chances are somewhat low but still. I'd like to see Kassadin or Akali to get the rework

As much as I would love it to be Akali, I would really appreciate if work was done on Kassadin. Its understandable if its not done just yet, as I feel he also need a VGU. I really love him, but he just seems to be a little out of place.
