Help?

So I just finished my placements and I ended up in Silver 4. Now, this was VERY surprising because I went 4-6 and lost a game 0/7 as sivir. (Yes, I am embarrassed...) So could someone explain to me how the system works???

How on earth should a kid who went 0/7 as sivir and lost 6 out of 10 games get silver? My friend said my mmr was really high when I started, and that I played agasint plats my first game, but 1) I don't believe him and 2) I don't think that's how it works...

I swear I'm not bragging about my placements like some people do, silver 4 is still nothing to brag about. And if I was bragging, I wouldn't have mentioned the sivir game. xD Just genuinely curious, how did I get silver 4?

Edit: First placements btw. Never ranked before. So It didn't have any prior history to go off of.

Your friend is correct; your MMR was "high". Actually, what happened is that, by default, every "new" account in ranked (1st time ranked) gets a ~Silver 5 rating. How you play your placements dictates if you should go down, stay there or go up. Bronze 1, Silver 5 and Silver 4 are not all that different.

My friend was placed in Gold 5, last season, and he'd never played ranked before. After the "end of season" rewards he started playing ranked again (still talking about Season 5) and he dropped from Gold 5 to Silver 3 (or 2). This season he was placed in Bronze 3 after the placements, even tough he won 5 out of 10 games. That's how the system works. By default you are Silver 5.

Gotcha! I thought everyone started at Bronze 5. xD Could you tell me how you got this info? Is there a website where I can do a little research by myself?

And thanks for the reply! I was really confused. :)

Unfortunately I can't. I don't remeber seeing any official post about this and all I have is bias confirmation. I've seen multiple cases and I've experienced it; but that's all bias and nothing official.

The only official post that I can give you is this Ranked Play FAQ

What I want you to read is this part:

##WHAT FACTORS TIE INTO HOW I AM PLACED? In addition to the outcome of your 10 placement games, your ratings from the previous season and the preseason are taken into account. If you have never played ranked before, your placement games are the only factor. Note - the maximum placement is Platinum 1.

Even if you've never played ranked before you'd still have a "default" rating (let's call it Z rating), because otherwise the match making process couldn't match you with any one. That "Z rating" is what we called "Unranked" but there's diffrent types of Unraked: "Real" Unranked (1st time), "High MMR" Unranked (you were climbing in MMR at the end of the previous season) and "Low MMR" Unranked (the opposite of the last point); Z1, Z2 and Z3.

I'll repeat myself: all I have is bias information that "seems" to work and make sense. Don't take this as the ultimate truth, but consider that it might work like I described. How much you play ranked with your friends also impacts your MMR rating and thus it also impacts your rating.

It would make a lot of sense if that's how the system worked. And I understand, but so far no one has been able to even present as much as you have so I'll go off of your explanation. :) Thanks so much! You really helped clear up the mystery of ranked. :)
