What is the actual problem???

msk51··7 votes·1,019 views

So, it's no secret that Riot has been under a TON of flak because of dynamic queue. But, as a fairly new player to league, I have two questions.

  1. What is the actual problem with dynamic queue? I mean, I love playing with friends and I don't see why everyone has a problem with that.
  2. Why has Riot not changed anything? Why do they continue to press something that a lot of their players don't want?

And PLEASE don't answer question 2 with "Because they suck" or "Because they're idiots." I want an actual reason of Riot's point of view and why they support dynamic queue so much.

Thanks in advance for the answers!!

A large portion of the player base don't mind Dynamic Queue, it's mostly just very vocal people on the message boards and very highly ranked players that dislike it. These two groups dislike it for different reasons though. These two groups also make up a small minority, so that's why Riot hasn't just reverted back to the old ranked system. Riot has, however, acknowledged that there are a lot of improvements that need to be made to their new system and they claim that they will try their best to improve the situation. They believe that DQ is the right direction to go in because it allows a more team oriented play experience. A lot of people think it detracts from their personal skill level to be forced to cooperate more with strangers or to be part of a group and play ranked but honestly this game has always required team work and there are still plenty of ways to show off individual skill.

Sweet! Thanks man, that cleared up a lot. Thanks for the explanation and quick reply!

Actually, sorry, I have one more question. :) From Riot's point of view, should they cater to the people who play solo or because it's a team game, lose some players to focus on the people who play in teams?

From it's creation League has been a team game, so Riot's stance is that they want to make team play much more important than solo play

jinxedchef2 votes

Small minority my ass, you have **ZERO **reason to believe that. ALL of the response on ALL of the social media outlets have been overwhelmingly negative of DQ. There is no reason to think this isn't the overall response of the gaming community as a whole.

Can you show me what you're referring to specifically? I browse the League subreddit, their twitter, these message boards, and many 3rd party websites that are League related and these message boards are the only place I see any sort of significant number of DQ complain threads. My dozen friends that play League plus the 50 or so people in my school's League club are all fine with the changes to the ranked system. But please tell me more about MY reasons to believe what I do.

  1. I like to play Solo, explain to me why I should be punished for playing solo. There is a post I just read with the stat that a 5 man premade win 70% of the games vs 5 man solo. How is that fair? There are several other problems but that is one of the biggest.

  2. Companies are often stubborn and slow to react to customers' complaints about changes to their product. Quite often it is ego on their part plus workers not wanting to tell the decision makers(who are their bosses) that they are wrong and have made poor choices.

In Riot's case they made this change mostly because they thought this would cut down on toxic behavior. They is no proof that it has had a positive affect on toxicity and any pros have been far outweighed by the cons.

Gotcha, interesting. That makes sense too, I play ADC (Or at least I try to) and I lose lane a lot when I'm going against a duo... What was the system before? Could you not play as a team before dynamic queue?

Michael Sykes4 votes

before dynamic queue there were a solo/duoqueue and a teamranked queue for playing with friends. The major difference was that they had two seperate ladders

msk513 votes

Huh, I'm really sorry but I kind of need my hand to be held during this one. Why on earth would they change? That seems fair, solo for solo and teams against teams... was it the separate ladder?

Michael Sykes1 votes

yep, and now are both (or better, just everything since groups of 3 or 4 weren't possible in ranked games before DQ) in one queue.

The reason they stated was that they wanted to improve the teamplay. I am pretty sure they did, at least for lower elo, because more people like to play ranked if they can pick the roles they want (which is the new champion select) and play with more than one friend, which has the advantage of being more coordinated, which means more effective and more fun for those guys.

To be honest, I don't really care. The only thing that was important to me was the role-selection, which made ranked way more interesting. But some like the dynamic-group ranked - and apart from the boosting/matchmaking issue it is very cool - and they seem to be more, at least when I judge from my experiences. But I also do understand the frustration of solo players.

I am sure that Riot will find a good solution for both groups of players

I agree, I just hope riot makes a good solution soon. Thanks for all the input man, means a lot.

np Bro, knowledge is very important in a game like League!

So to sum it up, alot of players are mad because people who arent that good can be carried on a 4-5 man team and get a rank they dont deserve. They also feel like 5man premades dominate because they have better communication, and they believe ranked is a measure of self skill and that you must earn your rank. Riot is pushing dynamic because 1 they had alot of people beg for it, (ironically thats reversed itself now). And 2 they believe that although self skill is important at the end of the day this is a team game and the option to play as a team or solo should be allowed. Hope this helped (:

msk512 votes

Thanks! It definitely did help. One quick question though, couldn't Riot release a queue for teams and then a separate queue for solo? That way it won't be unfair for anyone...

This idea actually has been out there for awhile and i think riot touched on this a little in a podcast. Basically the problem would be that the wait time to que a 5 or 4 man team that is a similar mmr as you would take quite a while. And then the question of how does a 3 man or duo team work? I think its a good idea but has its own set of issues as with all the other ideas. My personal oppinion is to keep dynamic que but adjust it slighty. I feel like if you have a large team 3-5 players then the points you earn should be smaller then if you win then if you played solo and also that 3-5 player teams should have to play against players that just a little bit higher in elo to help balance things out. Just a thought (:

msk511 votes

Huh, that makes sense. And yeah! Sounds like a good idea in my very noobish mind! :) You should work for riot. Thanks for all the help!

Still listening, but he's made some interesting comments. Thanks for the video, it's definitely showing me both sides of the issue.

Could all ready play with friends in normal. Now Ranked feels like normal game, meaningless no ranking based on individual skill.

Riot keeps making these cheap champions with cheap move sets and cheap stats. Juggernauts are terrible because they're obviously characters with big health and do tons of damage, but what's worse are those fighters that aren't even juggernauts or tanks that still do tons of damage and have lots of health and armor. Meanwhile, there are these mobile champions that have shields to protect them, endless shields, and they to have tons of health. You might as why make everyone immortal so everyone would just keep shooting and cutting with angry thoughts while nothing happens. Seriously, Riot, why do your champions have to be so cheap? If you want to break everybody, then break them so none of them are broken.

Ultimately dynamic queue problems can be solved by an in game voice chat.

  1. They catered to casuals while simultaneously giving a huge middle finger to hardcore/high ranked players. Dynamic Queue has a terrible matchmaking system that pits groups against solo players. If this only happened say.... 1% of the time, I would be okay, but since at least 50% of ranked 5 man teams play against 5 solos, it's incredibly irritating. (The reason of this is that larger groups often have very varying mmrs so the system finds it much easier to find 5 separate mmrs to "balance" it out with.)

DQ allows people to intentionally carry/boost their friends up in ranked games. It also allows a team of 5 friends who know each other and are very coordinated in a call to be against 5 random strangers with much less coordination.

Solo Q had 5 strangers against 5 strangers.
