When is best time to build Warmogs armor?

Title.

That item feels awkward and even if I get the health regeneration to keep going in fight after fight, my top laner runs out of mana.

Don't build it when there's a vayne obviously

usually one of your last items (4, 5, or even 6th) simply because it's passive requires you to have 3k health and you hp scales with your resistances from a defensive standpoint. Also, the sustain it gives you helps for after teamfights so that you don't have to back, and backing isn't requires as much in the late game when gold loses it's value

Unless your playing Mundo, Warmorgs is kinda niche. It's the best Sustain item in the game, yet Sustain is usually not your best option. (Usually prioritizing in combat stats than out of combat regen.)

It's a good pick up against a poke squad who, tires to widdle you down without engaging in a full team fight. It's a Favorite pick up for me in ARAM, since you don't back for health in that mode. The sustain become actually useful. (again, especially against a poke squad.)

It lets tanky champs bounce back from team fights the way smooshy champs with two lifesteal items do. Pretty useful late game, especially if the fight is skirmish heavy.

Vayne does not counter health stacking, contrary to popular belief. She mitigates it. Its still a good idea to have a lot of health as a tank champ against her. In fact, health>armor because its true damage that's being dealt to it, even if its %HP true damage.

Her W only invalidates 12% of the health you purchase every 3 auto attacks. Getting 88% effectiveness from health is still a pretty damn good deal considering ADCs invalidate ~40% of armor in most cases.

Buying health vs her helps far more than it hurts, especially since the majority of her damage comes from her physical damage. You still need a lot of both armor and HP to fight Vayne.

That said, Warmog's is good vs a lot of poke mid-late game, not generally in lane. If you're going to have it in lane for some reason, champions who lack, or build to lack, mana issues are generally the only viable options.

When your champion has a way of getting in and out of a fight, and is also a tank.

Sejuani DrMundo TahmKench Garen Sion Zac Volibear are really the only viable users. You want it as a third or maybe fourth item, since it takes 3000 max health to unlock the passive.

Basically the only time I ever get it as a tank main is when I think having someone who can tank towers after won team fights will be an important thing to have for the specific game. This is only ever really necessary against a team that is constantly pushing minions to your towers. Even after a won team fight you can't do anything because the minions are always on your doorstep. This means that warmog's is really only an option for me if playing against Singed or item 3512 .

Is this a veiled "nerf Vayne" thread?

Manaless champs love it. It's a CDR item with no mana or caster stats on it.

It's great against long range poking teams.
