Getting hextech chests on level 5 and 6 champs

I just had a question that I hoped somebody would clear up. As of now, I have my mastery for Soraka at level 6, with 3 level 7 token thingies. I just don't have the champion essence to combine them yet. I noticed that up until now, you get these tokens instead of hextech chests when you get and S- or higher rank. My question is, what about after that? Naturally if I can get a champion shard to break down by playing my best champ one more time (As I do understand the rule of one chest per champion S rank, per month) I'm going to do it.

Will I get a chest? An additional level 7 token which I don't need? A key fragment maybe? Or just nothing at all?

You don't get the mastery token instead of a chest, if you happen to be rank 5 and get an S- (or higher) rank for the first time on a champion while you have a chest available to be earned, you'd get both a mastery 6 token and a hextech chest. Another S- (or higher) rank on that champion would earn you a second mastery 6 token. Any further S- (or higher) ranks on that champion won't give you anything until you actually unlock mastery 6 (you can't get tokens you don't need).

Then the next 3 S's or S+'s on the champion will get you mastery 7 tokens, and beyond that nothing. Once mastery 7 on a champion, even S+ ranks don't get you anything special (no mastery 8 tokens for example).

edit: Also it's one chest per champion per season not per month. At the same time as the one chest/champ/season rule, there's the separate 4 chests/month rule, so you might have confused those.

Ah shoot okay, that makes more sense now. Thanks for clarifying.
