Star Guardian Syndra/Janna Theory

A random theory that came to mind when reading the star guardian bio pages. This is mostly just speculation but hear me out. (Actually some people might have come to the same conclusion anyways but oh well.)

Syndra and Janna are of the same generation of Star Guardians within their universe, and while not directly stated, are hinted at once having been on the same team, and that Syndra had something to do with its downfall. A hint or two comes from the Starfall story.

http://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/story/star-guardian-starfall/

I hear Janna’s footsteps stop behind me as I walk towards the ‘girl.’ I take this as a not so subtle clue that I’m on my own. -Janna hanging back intentionally avoiding the social interaction.

_ I feel Janna’s fingertips on my arm, supporting me. I look over at Janna. Her normally calm face is grimacing at the girl behind the table. I do a double take between them before returning to the conversation. “Well, we’re all here now,” Janna says curtly._ -Hints that Janna knows Syndra, and is not exactly happy to see here here.

“I have to take a walk,” Janna says. She’s not asking. She doesn’t even look down in my direction. This is weird. I’ve never seen Janna so... so angry. -Blowing off some steam after the interaction with Syndra

The takeaway from this, is that Ahri and MF are not the first Guardians to be surviving members of a team that meet a tragic end. If that's the case however and Syndra is somehow responsible for the deaths of Star Guardians in her quest for power, then why isn't Janna speaking up about it? Why is she just kind of aloof and off in her own world all the time?

I think the answer comes in the form of her "Magical Mediums" as Riot is calling them. The three little spirits that take the place of her normal orbs in game. Given that Normal lore Syndra was willing to kill to allow her power to become unrestrained, so perhaps she simply killed the other members of her team who were trying to hold her back, and left Janna alive as a means to set an example.

However this is basically an anime story line, so things need to be a little more.... over dramatic lets say in the special way that anime is. Also remember Syndra is bothering to blend in with another team and Janna isn't setting much of a warning to others if she keeps quiet. That's why I am going to theorize that the individual parts of Multi are in fact the individual souls of past Star Guardians, (or perhaps their souls are serving as power sources to the spirits itself) trapped within Syndras grasp. I think Syndra threatened Janna to keep quiet, and in turn Janna leaves her alone in the hope that there is still some way to rescue her fallen comrades.

There are three parts to Multi, and with Syndra and Janna that would make a 5, which is the arbitrary number required to form a Star Guardian team. Things could even be darker than that as well. Ahri lost exactly 3 members of her old team as well. If we go with the theory that the individual parts of Multi consumed old Star Guardians, then maybe she is also responsible for the loss of Ahris old team mates as well.

I think its entirely possible that Syndra is feeding Star Guardians to her orbs in order to increase their power doing so in intervals of three to keep them at even levels. Which in term frustrates Janna further, because she sees the same thing happening again, but feels powerless to stop it. Soraka, Ezreal, and MF are probably her next targets. She just has to bide her time considering MF appears to not trust her completely. Discovering the existence of another team, one containing her old ally, probably only requires her to be even more cautious.

"Given that Normal lore Syndra was willing to kill to allow her power to become unrestrained"

Somewhat true. Syndra killed out of anger and betrayal, as well as gaining back her freedom which ties to her becoming a person with unrestrained power. Syndra is not inherently evil; she was consistently wronged by the people who she was supposed to trust. She was still a fairly young girl when she killed the elder too, so her losing control of her powers and emotions isn't unreasonable.

So that would lead me to believe SG Syndra is similar. I don't think SG Syndra killed her fellow teammates, I don't think SG Syndra is one of the big bads of the story.

I also don't believe she would let Janna live out of her being left as an example; and then threaten Janna into silence. That contradicts itself, if she left Janna as an example she would want Janna telling others of how fearsome Syndra is. And if Syndra is as old and powerful as your theory would suggest, why would she need to disguise herself into other groups of SG? She could either take them all out, especially newer SG groups like Lux's, or pick them off one by one.

The story Janna also tells never states that original SG was necessarily evil either. They just wanted their own identity away from being what is basically an indentured servant to First Star. Ahri is the same, she wants her freedom, she doesn't want to be tied to a destiny of horror and heartbreak from losing more friends. This doesn't make Ahri evil, it makes her "human" - ik ik she isn't human and technically no SG is human, but in stories we as viewers are able to relate to ----> other humans and beings displaying humanity.

Cool theory, but I see too many holes.

Ahri holds three broken gemstones that can also be seen in her W

Either Syndra has nothing to do with their deaths or that is the remnants of Star Guardians Syndra kills and absorbs the power of

That's pretty dark. Too dark imo for Syndra, which is saying alot..

@Placentas Yeah I know it has it's holes. I did kinda type this up on a whim. Betchya if I took the time to rephrase and rethink a few things it would make a bit more sense. However one counter point I do want to make.

"And if Syndra is as old and powerful as your theory would suggest, why would she need to disguise herself into other groups of SG?"

While I think she is among the most powerful, I'm willing to bet she still couldn't take on a full team of Star Guardians on her own yet. With her old team in this theory perhaps she picked them off one by one, or after they were weakened by a particularly tough battle.

@Hexs Fortune If you've seen some of the magical girl anime out there that are intentionally written as kind of dark (Madoka Magica for example) you'd see where I was coming from with this. :-p

Your theory is actually pretty good, but maybe Janna and Syndra were good friends, and assuming their teammates died they parted ways and never spoke to each other again, perhaps that's the reason why Janna is shocked to see Ahri after such a long time. Maybe Syndra didn't kill them, but absorbed their souls in order to preserve their souls and Janna mistook this as Syndra killing them to get their power. Like @Striking Venom said, Ahri's W has got three gemstones that may be the remnants of her fallen teammates. Perhaps Syndra is trying her best to not let her actual teammates have the same fate as her old ones, and is afraid to lose her sisters/brothers like what happened with Janna. Janna may think Syndra is evil because she assumed she killed their teammates, so she wants to protect her team not only from the monsters, but Syndra too. Deep down, maybe she wants to be friends with Syndra again like in the old times. (Sorry for my awful english, by the way.)[sg-zephyr]
