People who convince themselves high damage is new...

...are new players, farming upvotes from hype or delusional. People were complaining about LeBlanc, Kassadin one shotting people. Xin killing you before his knockup ended. Xerath nuking an entire team for most their HP. Nid spears one shotting squishies. Teemo shrooms chucking 1/3rd to 2/3rds of your HP. Trynd two shot critting your Ashe. Shaco instant assassinations. Kat Pentakills. Jax, Yi, Fiora, Trynd, Udyr, Shyvana killing towers in a few seconds alone. These are all season 2 complaints.

Damage was only low-ish during the Mundo never dies tank meta. Other than that Damage has never been 'low'.

One statement doesn't exclude the other one.

It's no lie that new masteries have given more damage to everyone. So in a way, damage is higher that it would've been in the old system.

And a lot of tanks/new abilities are also given % damage, but that's another discussion.

Heals, shields, base stats and CC have also 'never been higher' which all reduce damage done.

Also total AD and AP on items have gone down.

also true

but it doesn't reduce damage, It merely keeps people alive for longer

The amount of ap and ad champs get has been steadily reduced as well, though.

But the amount of CDR has increased, which is a direct DPS increasing stat

This so much, people seemed to have missed the abundance of cdr nowadays.

high damage was never this universal

those seasons had individual champion's with BS damage

not a handful of % damage multipliers that you can stack on top of one other

Actually it was pretty universal. Outside of supports almost everyone did a ton of damage. Same as now. And we had people complaining then about 'tanks' doing to much damage. Healers, shields, base HP and CC have all also gone up. Which all reduce damage.

my bad yeah i remember now

i remember that junglers could come at level 4, kill you in 3 seconds, and then at level 16 get out of nowhere while oneshoting almost every targets i also remember that supports could 1v1 the adc at level6, and solokill them at level 9

^^

Eyup. Plenty of Lee Sins, Shacos, Yis and Trynds pf the time doing that.

Supports gaining power is the only accurate sarcasm here. But that is exactly what everyone asked for so...

The game has more complexity than it ever has in the past, which I think is what leads to some of this feeling. Items are more diverse than ever. Masteries are more diverse than ever (also far more powerful). And they're working to make every champion super unique. What you end up with is that for pretty much every champion, there's some ideal set of masteries and items that best fits with the uniqueness of each kit, pushing the perceived power level that much higher.

If Riot would choose just one of these systems to return to a more generic state, they would lower the severity of the outliers without hitting the average champions too hard.
