Can Ashe's Hawkshot deal 1 True Damage?

Aamano··105 votes·12,880 views

[Edit] I didn't think about the Recall/Out-of-Combat interrupts when i first put this up, i see your point

playing Ashe, sittin' in lane I haven't seen Master Yi for a minute or two now. out of curiosity, i cast my E toward his Red Buff i reveal him sitting in the bush about to take it

My jungler immediately turns around, and invades to kill him and steal the buff my first thought was "i should get an assist for that"

i think it'd be a nice thing for Ashe to get vision assists for scouting out vulnerable enemies. i know that Zilean's bombs do 1 True Damage on-pickup, right? same concept

It would interrupt recalls so no

It should grant assists without dealing damage

shoot it top or mid before a jungle gank/all in for free assist

idk about dat

Not xPeke24 votes

they can code it so it only grants an assist if the enemy was in the fog of war and not already visible.

Old Ashe E used to give gold if you gave vision of enemies if I remember right. That wouldn't work if they were already visible. So the coding possibility is definitely there.

So yeah, I don't see it that easy to abuse by shooting it top or mid before a gank/all in situation.

50000000000000006 votes

didn't it give gold for unit kills?

Not xPeke2 votes

ye but it didnt give the gold if they were already visible if i remember correctly.

So I mean, the coding is there to make it so that it's not abused.

Either way, I'm fairly certain Riot can code it that way..

Is this like Alpha Ashe or something? I remember it giving a static amount of gold (1/2/3/4/5 then changed to 3/3/3/3/3) for each CS or a kill.

I mean, you used a scouting tool to get an assist top lane.

That means Ashe has less scouting potential for objectives like Dragon.

Yeah, especially when Gangplank can basically farm-clear two lanes at once with him being at one and ulting the other - while he can do that he loses such powerful ult for more useful cases. The only difference here may be cooldowns, but even then that can be easy to code as Not xPeke suggested.

item 3363 and item 3361 do not give assists.

So Ashe's e shouldnt either.

ninjaroxas4 votes

But kalista's ghosts do and they are close to ashe's e then wards

We could technically just give Ashe assist credit when she reveals things with Hawkshot, but I personally don't think it's the right call to make. Though it might encourage more good scouting behavior, it could also definitely lead to behavior that justified just randomly plopping a Hawkshot over every fight whether or not the vision is even useful. There could then be rules around when a Hawkshot should or shouldn't be worth an assist, but it would probably ultimately be unclear or very rules-heavy.

Despite all that, I agree that it would be nice to get validated for those really good long range hawkshots. One of the reasons I changed the spell to be global a few years ago was to open up plays like this rather than just having Hawkshot simply be a short range gank path denial.

I don't think it would be very confusing for it to work like: "if hawkshot reveals a champion who is not already visible, gain assist credit on that champion". Its honestly logic that should be applied to all vision granting effects in the game (and of course being a global rule would be a great boon to clarity)

DarkSoul19946 votes

But by that logic, I should get an Assist for every ward I place in the enemy jungle if they die in its vision.

Remlap12233 votes

There's a difference between wards and active abilities.

DarkSoul19949 votes

Yeah, one actually takes a time investment and physical risk to place it.

And the other takes up one of your 4 spells.

Sounds like both have their merits. Doesn't have to be one or the other, now does it?

Can/does Hawkshot affect vision score? I feel like vision score is the more appropriate way to acknowledge its contribution.

RiotRiotRepertoir13 votes

I'm unsure. I haven't ever worked on the vision score system before, but I can ask.

SociopathFriend2 votes

Do traps like Nid, Cait, Jhin affect it? If so I can't imagine it's not- but spaghetti-code-meme...

Quepha1 votes

When Rioters described the system, they rule they said was "If the spell's ONLY purpose is to provide vision then it can up your vision score. If it has other effects then it doesn't"

Ashe's Hawkshot has no effect aside from vision so it will add to vision score; Nid, Cait, and Jhin traps all have other effects so they don't add to vision score.

Spitemaster2 votes

IIRC, it does.

GripaAviara1 votes

It should also add 1 health heal, so arden ashe to be a thing

Jerry SeinfeId2 votes

It already is...

This really isnt a bad idea.

I think vision should be an assist anyways. Whoever places the ward gets an assist if it happens in sight. This would also get people to use more wards:P

Stillname2 votes

It just makes things too weird in general.

Assists give gold and xp so you could potentially have a ward down somewhere where your team mate gets a kill and then you level up unexpectedly in the middle of an all in and win the all in because of it.

If kills and assists were just a thing that the game kept track of purely for stat reasons then yes an assist should be granted on vision but with the gold and xp being a part of it there has to be something more solid.

Death recap already says it does damage.

Death recap says a lot of things though...

Like that raptor that dealt 118 magic damage with Statikk :^)

my personal favorite is baron smiting me to death.

I really don't think Hawkshot should disrupt out of combat bonuses

ModDaenrysTargaryen10 votes

well maybe not damage but a debuff would work as well, like a 7 sec debuff on any enemy that was not in vision but did become in vision with the hawkshot. thus that will grant an assist

Catastrop5 votes

It could just grant a revealed debuff for the purposes of assists. This wouldn't interrupt recalls too.

ForFoxSakes5 votes

So if it does 1 truedamage it's gonna aggro the entire jungle everytime ashe fires her arrow thru it?

General Esdeath 5 votes

Make it mark enemies to take 1 extra true damage from the next incoming attack :^)

yoshi27904 votes

or a 1% slow? That would give an assist too I guess. Anyways, nice QoL change!

Jobriq4 votes

If they did this, then they'd have to give TF an assist for anyone killed during his ult

ive assumed it always has

robot takeover4 votes

it's simple. If hawkshot spots an enemy it marks them for a short duration. If an ally kills that target while the target is marked and for a short duration afterwards, you get an assist. I think that's easy enough to install.

scribbles7823 votes

This would be the best finisher in the game kappa

ZT Xperimentor3 votes

She already has plenty of range with her spreadshot; it's more of a vision thing, in which case several other champions should be just as entitled.

item 2049 item 3070

If vision is going to give assists, mind if we work on getting wards first please?

JeffLeague1233 votes

Hmm. I mean doing damage it would interupt recalls and have the really really slight potential to steal mobs and objectives. But you know how it blows up in feathers after it lands where you launch it. Maybe they should change hawkshot to do something when the feathers blow up.

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

Now I'm just waiting for someone to steal Drake with an Ashe E. :P

Or, better yet, steal top's farm with it. >:D

ArkVeil2 votes

There is an example of vision giving assists: Quinn W. I've had assists before from that. I believe it is because Quinn W applies a debuff, like Cait vision. Any Quinn mains please confirm.

XianShetsu2 votes

I feel like it should work like Veigar's E tbh in terms of visually affecting an enemy champion to do certain actions.

OyddAWqJ5r1 votes

Huh? What do you mean?

XianShetsu1 votes

When Veigar casts his cage around someone initially, even if they get out before it fully spawns or they don't get stunned while inside the cage, Veigar will still get an assist (And 5 AP) if they die because it forced them to move or perform an action or die.

Nea1041 votes

Same for tanks, taking 1 milion damages for the team but no assist.

xxxDogmanxxx1 votes

If this happens, I'm gonna aggro and use Dragon as a giant moving river ward.
