What is the point of Bard?

Ok, maybe I just don't see it but I cannot understand why Bard is even useful in this game. His Q is harder to land then Morgana who can snare for longer and yes, its a stun but there are a lot of champs that can stun easier then Bard can ((coughAnnie cough)). His heals are pathetic compared to Soraka or Sona so why would you bother taking him for that. His passive is strange, requires you to roam, leaving your ADC in a dangerous position and the chimes give you a very minor boost to some stats, hardly noticable. I could understand if his AA passive was good but it just isn't, it does CRAP damage and you cannot build him AD so relying on auto-attack is bad anyway. His magical journey allows enemies to travel through, making it an unreliable escape and his ult, is essentially a group item 3157 and has as much chance to feck up your team rather then help them.

Can anyone help me to see why this champ is any good at all, compared to other supports who can do what he does, A LOT EASIER. Why would you punish yourself by taking him?

Has Riot just run out of ideas for making good supports because I fail to see how Bard is anything but a liability to any team he's in?

Have you ever seen an enemy take a magical journey to your tower?

Yeah, it ends pretty bad for them.

Thats the odd good play in a sea of uselessness for Bard.

His Q has a lower CD than morgs Q and can stun 2 people rather than binding one. His passive is amazing once its built up, he does alot of damage when you build complete utility, hes just really hard for low skill players to get used to. Hes not someone you'll see in solo queue bronze making a play for sure, but hes awesome in gifted hands.

Not gonna lie, this post probably gave me cancer, bard is a high utility support, with a long ranged stun and a giant aoe zhonyas.

his lvl 1 harass is some of the best, despite his squish and he brings a lot to team comps if he knows how to play.

this post is just another one in the long list of useless champ-bashing posts. RIP summoner 1

No, to be fair, believe me, I would LIKE him to be useful but I just fail to see WHERE he preforms better then any other support. His damage is terrible.

Your failing to see where he outperforms other supports does not mean he has a bad kit, it means you have yet to see him (or play him) at his full potential, and he is one of my favorite champs because of that kit you don't seem to understand.

my 60% win rate with bard has taught me an important lesson. when enemies try to chase into your back line while you are bard they usually end up chain stunned while you ult their carries who then do nothing. when building ap on bard your heals are strong enough to clutch save someone without needing to wait ten seconds to charge and your Q is downright chunk worthy when combined with a 50+ chime enhanced meep. also magical journey man magical journey.

His passive doesn't require you to roam and leave your adc in a vulnerable position. It encourages roaming but you can just collect while warding dragon, walking back to lane, etc. Meeps do a lot of damage in short trades, AA and walk away. The slow will make it more difficult to engage for longer trades. Later on in the game when you have collected a lot of chimes you have 3+ meeps that do 240 base damage each in an AoE that slows, that's quite a lot.

If you manage to land a stun at lvl1, you can follow that up with a meep autoattack + AA and an AA + skill from your adc. That hurts.

His ult is great for making picks on lone enemies where it effectively becomes a 2.5s stun. In teamfights you generally won't want to hit allies with the ult but use it more to momentarily make the fight a 3v5. Aiming for either their adc + apc or some frontline tanks.

If you max your E second the tunnel is a reliable way to escape through long walls especially because you can follow up with an easy stun.

I usually find it pretty easy to stun important targets, often that + another in a teamfight, which easily wins us the teamfight. With high stacks on his passive he can pretty much AoE permaslow. Good combo on botlane with a partner who makes the enemy stand behind minions, one of you will surely hit them so he is a great harass support. Great disangages with the stun. Journey really needs smart teammates but can create ganking from angles that no other champion can create, and is 99% never warded. Can also be a good deciever / baiter.

The only downside of him is that a crowded minion lane often makes impossible to help your teammate (if you roam to top for example) because they just block everything.

the only thing I dont like about Bard is that there is no alternative to escape his ult if a bad bard drops it on you as you just have to wait it.

Tham is probably gonna outshine bard as they are pretty similar, but the execution on what they do seems better on Tham.

I mean if Tham can devour an ally and the ally can choose to go out why shouldnt allies be able to escape the bard ult?

It would probably be too OP in LCS play without that risk probably.

Bard is a great support from his CC alone.

I find his Q isn't hard to land and his ult is game changing. (sometimes game changing for the wrong reasons though if you miss it) His heal absolutely sucks and needs major buffing for an ability that costs so much mana. The start heal should remain the same but after 10 seconds, it should heal 3 times the amount it currently does. Especially considering how easy it is to destroy for the enemy team.

Add into it the great mobility he has around the map to ward and assist other lanes and you have a great all around support.
