Champion.gg - Ryze Top Stats, Builds, Runes, Masteries and Counters

Looking at Ryze's most popular skill orders, people seem to max R>Q>E>W on him currently.

I'd like to point out a different route that could be superior:

What does level the skills give?

Q: +25 damage/rank, +5% Speedboost/rank
W: +20 damage/rank, -1 second CD/rank (her W's rank 1 CD is 13 seconds)
E: +25 damage/rank, +15% bonus damage for Overload on Flux'd targets

By leveling W second, you get a far lower CD on your CC spell. E's CD, on the other hand, is static, and leveling the ability only gives you more damage.

It also gives you A LOT more damage. Maxing it second gets it to the point where your Q deals double damage to spell fluxed targets, it's kind of so much damage it's stupid to go W second.

eh. I go EQWto help with waveclearing in early game. grab CDR runes and lucidity boots and you should be good.

Getting the W max second really isn't a good option. While you do get a slightly lower cooldown, you give up a ton of damage because E can be cast far, far more often than W. In a teamfight, I might cast E 5-7 times easily. I'll cast W once or twice. At 25 damage per cast, that starts to add up to a lot of damage. It also vastly improves his waveclear and increases his Q damage.

In fact, take a look at the highest winrate builds for Ryze mid/top. See how they both max E before they max Q? That's not a mistake. That's how good the E points are.
