Ivern Question

I have Ivern, and I would test this out for myself, but I'm not at home right now so I'm not able to, so I ask my friends on the boards for help.

If you haven't already experienced this, I ask that someone try testing this interaction out and get back to me.

Shortly after Ivern was released on the PBE, I expressed my concerns with a seeming lack of invade-ability. ... that isn't a word. .... The enemy jungler can not sneak invade his jungle and Smite/last hit a camp out from under his nose. It is literally impossible, .. unless you're an enemy Ivern.

My thought was to resolve this by giving the enemy jungler the chance to smite a groved camp and clear it just like he can. Or maybe add some limits. Maybe they can only smite a fully matured grove. Maybe they only gain a decreased amount of gold and/or exp earned for it, or at least a massive amount of bonus damage, making it fairly easy to finish off afterward.

This would do two things,

1 - It would give the enemy jungler pretty much the exact opportunity I mentioned earlier.

and

2 - It would force Ivern to be a little less care free about leaving groves unattended.

Now, this WAS my idea, .. however, someone commented on that post, strongly insisting that Ivern already has some massive counter play related to this because when an enemy steps into the circumference of his grove, it is broken.

This is the part that I really need tested.

If this is true, then yes, there is plenty of counter play creating the groves cost a good amount of health and mana, and they take a decent amount of time to mature. To undo that simply by walking over them would be quite painful.

HOWEVER after thoroughly seeking YouTube gameplay videos and several board posts requesting to have someone on the PBE confirm this went completely unanswered, .. I still have no real proof that this guy did not just make it all up.

So I ask you friends, when stepping into a maturing and/or matured enemy Ivern's grove, does it break?

And if not, ... does something need to be done about this?

Would my Smite steal solution be helpful?

Photo and/or video evidence would be preferred if possible.

So just like Ivern's jungling is different, counter-jungling him is different too.

To answer your question: No, Ivern's groves are not broken by someone else stepping in them. They persist until he completes them or someone else (from either team) kills the monsters. Enemy Iverns cannot use the same groves, but start new ones, destroying the old.

If you want to invade Ivern, you either just go and kill him (not terribly difficult, since he doesn't really have good dueling early), or you take his camps before he gets to them or while his grove is building up before he comes back to them.

And honestly, he's already easy enough to invade upon that there's really no need to try to make it any easier. Almost the opposite, if anything.

This may not be the common definitions for these terms respectively, but I look at Invading and Counter Jungling as two different things.

An Invade has 3 goals, especially early game.

  1. To gain vision, and thus knowledge of where the jungler is and/or is not, to determine starting location, and then assuming the clear/gank path to follow.

  2. To attempt to steal a camp at the last second. Essentially allowing them to do all of your hard work for you, and wasting their time.

  3. To catch them out and get a kill.

Counter Jungling is generally a straight up denial of farm and exp with the intention of going in, clearing a camp (or clearing most of the camp) yourself, and getting back out without a confrontation. The goal is to minimize the gold and exp they gain when they finally get around to those camps along their path, wasting their time and putting them behind.

As far as invading Ivern, I could see it being pretty difficult if he is smart enough to fight among a camp. If you manage to aggro the camp they will ALWAYS help Ivern because they will not attack him. I wouldn't anticipate killing him to be a major goal at level 1 because he will not likely be that low until he rushes 3 or 4 camps in a row. By then he will be coming up on level 3. Granted, the lack of need for a leash may make him vulnerable to group invades, but he has a decent amount of health at level 1, most likely his E shield at by level 2, and his Q can also be used as an escape ability.

As he stated Ivern Can't duel. Take anyone with good early game dueling or invading, and go kill him. I will own him later tonight on Live, but from what ive seen if you catch after hes laid his 3 groves he's very vulnerable. Please tell me if im wrong.
