If you think pro play's too slow and boring right now

...your problem is that you're not watching it. Plain and simple.

Iv'e actually been enjoying worlds alot this year, def more entertaining than previous years.

Pretty sure people say the opposite and are unhappy that riot "balances" for plays in pro play instead of actual balance.

The community as a whole has to get together at some point and say this is how the game should be balanced: Either Pro Play or Casual. We've been trying the half and half style for quite a while, with mixed results.

It's not even balanced for balance. It's balanced for big plays.

It's so balanced for big plays that kill counts in pro RARELY reach past 20 tops. The game with the Camille backdoor had I think 12 kills called in a 30 something minute long game.

The reason games are faster in lower elos is because no one cares and always takes the risky play instead of the safe one. Pretty much every death is avoidable whether it be from proper set up before hand (vision or lack thereof) or during (flashing the blitz hook itself instead of taking it and then flashing after you lose 80% of your health so you still die). I'm not perfect in the slightest. Far from it. But I RARELY reach record high death counts that some players consistently get because they don't pay attention to anything and just want to "make the big plays and 1v9" even though that is never going to happen against people actually playing league of legends to win.

If that's the case explain item 3504

The problem is that they use low elo as a metric for casual play when they really need to start using higher elos.

Maybe High Gold Low Plat for a benchmark.

that is such a stupid idea I'm actually impressed.

D3. The game should be balanced around D3 since that's the benchmark for when the game drastically shifts from a micro driven game to a macro one.

Ragnaveil1 votes

The only reason I avoided using d3 was for the sake of low elo, who might not like having the changes being more dictated around there. If d3 can work, then by all means. I was just being cautious with my answer.

D3 can and does work. You balance mainly around there because almost everything that works in high elo works in low elo too, and if there's some egregious balance anomaly in low elo, such as Yorick you nerf that. It's what Riot was doing ages ago and works extremely well.

The issue is Riot really doesn't give much of a shit about high elo solo queue.

Eh, I look to it as "It can fix itself", which is clearly not the case. It would definitely work having that as the benchmark.

D3 is too high. It'd be balancing around the top 0.4 percentile.

Even D5 would be more reasonable as it's the top 2.15%. High gold to low plat is too low, I agree, but mid-high plat'd be fair for everyone.

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

No because it is not about the number of people you balance around but the level of skill.

LeftyRaydy1 votes

alright then balance around me as I am in Plat 2. Still in ranked I am in the top 4% of players. once you reach plat 5 you are in the top 10% of players. once gold you are better than 60% of the player base. its just odd that you would think GOld would be the middle of the pack but silver is almost 50% of the playerbase which is just insane.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

The community already shows it by sinking player numbers tho? NA server is basically dead. EU lost half its population. The community did come together: They want to play a fun game that is fair and skill based and not get everything excused with "yeah b b but in competitive!!!!"

LoL is one of the biggest multiplayer games worldwide. Within the top 3 or 4. Its nowhere near dead.

Either Pro Play or Casual

It should be balanced around plat+ with some outliers like Azir, Ryze, Sej, and Zoe being balanced for pro play

Its better in a lot of ways as a viewer. As a player this season is less fun, as a viewer more fun tbh.

It's worse for solo q cuz riot are finally enforcing the 5v5 rules because in previous seasons u can just 1v9 every game if you're good enough but now you're dependant on your team and also theres still no voice chat.

WHAT?

Never have, never will. Games will always be more fun for me to play than to watch, and if game ain't fun to play, I sure as HELL ain't watching it.

Dehydration4 votes

Watching some people playing the game will never be more fun then playing the game yourself

Too slow I don't know, don't watch.

Boring? It is boring. It has always been boring, it always will be boring, and people who value the experience of spectating League over actually playing it are probably the reason for most of this game's problems.

If anything worlds is showing what a shit state the game is in. Namely that damage is utterly stupid.

Large amount of tanky champion picks, often in mid lane. Pretty much no mage diversity.

Mid lane and sometimes other laners taking item 2033 and Time Warp Tonic for sustain very frequently to avoid having to leave lane after a single trade cause damage is stupid.

The most defensive items ive ever seen being built in pro play. item 3111 item 3102 being built nearly every game on mids to avoid instantly dying.

Large amount of solo kills., straight feeding on Syndra cause Irelia is a broken joke.

  1. If you play the game smart, rather than moronically, you wouldn't invest entirely into glass cannon damage and expect to not get stomped on. If the smartest way to build is "pure damage with no safety net", something would be wrong with the game.

  2. Tanks in mid lane is done to REDUCE bloodiness.

  3. Irelia counter-picks back liners like mages and marksmen. That isn't a balancing problem. LeBlanc does the same thing.

  4. You want everyone to just farm for 20 minutes like last year?

Pika Fox1 votes

Corrupting mid is moreso for mana. And sustain has nothing to do with "damage being too high". Even if you took 0 damage, healthpots would still be OP because being in lane means you get farm and tower takes less damage.

GigglesO2 votes

Games could last 10 minutes I would still find them slow and boring. I just don’t want to watch, just like football... I like playing not watching...

Leto GT1 votes

Bunch of teams are playing slow still but I think VIT and c9 gave the blueprint for this worlds which is early aggression and big mid fights.

Janakin1 votes

Never seen someone claiming that.

Tychusfindlay9181 votes

I skip over games that have shen vs ornn or whatever other tank v tank top lane matchups.

Not surprisingly, I end up skipping a shitload of pro games.

Rabbi Shekelberg1 votes

its all boring shit. im not gonna waste my time on a lot of these games just to find that 1 rare fun to watch game.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Doesn't really matter if their games are fast or slow; they're still boring as hell to watch, since they fall back to the same two dozen champions, even the commentators sound bored in recent years.
