But can we please stop pigeon holing champions into one role? You did it with Skarner and I have played him maybe 3 times since, which is sad considering he was at one point my most played champion.
I honestly thought maybe Riot learned their lesson about doing this with the Skarner rework.

In all seriousness... it would be a good change, if like you said it didn't pigeonhole him into jungle only. Nunu top, mid, and/or support could be a thing, without being cancerous, if they'd put a little more thought into his kit... gave him appropriate buffs (not ones that come with nerfs), rather than a minigame he's required to play in order to remain viable in any given match.
The buff, while likely not finished, could add a lot to his gameplay... not sure if it's going to have unlimited stacks or what. But seems like after a while it will get to be a bit much, even with the potential downside of it. Making it a good change overall... but for the jungle, only.
But why give the community what they actually want (laning nunu, among many other things), when rito can simply give us what they want us to want...
I mean, it's a ton of power.
Riot has data on how many people actually play lane/support Nunu, and it's probably low enough to justify removing it entirely
Jungle Nunu is something Riot has said before that they want to force Nunu into. They like alternate play styles, but they find Lane Nunu to be an incredible annoyance since all of his spells just kind of happen and you either can overcome them through sheer stats or lose to them. There is no doubt who will win the laning phase when the laning phase begins and Nunu is a part of it AND ITS NOT ALWAYS NUNU. Lane Nunu either stomps or gets stomped due to everything he does always happening except his ultimate, which would be broken if it was guaranteed.
Nunu is in need of a rework and, until then, Riot REALLY wants to force him out of Top, Middle, and Bottom Lane. While I'm not sure the Starving mechanic is entirely needed, it is one way to force him to Jungle since his Lane play style is just boring and super annoying.
They removed Starving, so Nunu is no longer "pigeon holed" into the Jungle with these changes.
Good Nunus play him jungle. People who want to cheese and annoy their opponents play him elsewhere. His primary form of burst is targeted and once that's hit, his ult forces a flash. His W is a free MS buff and an ADC buff. His Q is a free heal.
What counterplay do you have when you face Nunu in lane? Hope you can survive his endless annoyances (or push him in with AoE, which works against any champion). It's not a playstyle Riot should enforce, ever.
