I'm up in cs and we are both at 0-0. How can another champ be a level ahead of me?

This makes no sense at all.

Experience is awarded by standing around the minion wave and divided between allied members rather than killing them.

But I was pushing him back and was more near minions as I killed them. The towers taking minions should have counted against him.

CerealBoxOfDoom4 votes

why would they? It doesn't matter who or what kills the minions, if you are in range you get experience

Great Muta1 votes

Why do I end up levels behind though when I turret hug? This is really where I'm getting lost.

CerealBoxOfDoom2 votes

The difference may be the experience starvation strategy vs the gold denial strategy

if you are under tower far away and I DON'T push under your tower then you wont be in range to get experience and I will gain levels on you but my gold will accumulate at a different pace and I risk pushing a large wave at you later or something, it has to do with how lanes rebalance themselves. If I can push you out of lane then shove a double minion wave under your tower I am going to just dominate you if I scale well with levels.

On the otherhand

If I shove the minions under your tower while you are turtling I get more chances to harass you and I probably get gold a lot more easily than trying to carefully last hit. But then you gain experience since I shoved the minions under tower and thus in range.

The former denies experience The latter denies gold

You did the latter and apparently managed to fall behind in levels somehow which is entirely possible. How much cs you have is 100% irrelevant to how much exp you have. For all you know he may have gone and killed some jungle or something, it doesn't matter. You don't get exp from having higher cs you get it from seeing something die, if I'm not mistaken you can even get exp by seeing a player die even if you didn't touch them.

If your jungler was standing near by waiting for a gank he might soak some of your xp fr9m the minions dying nearby. Or the enemy did some chicken camp on the side while you went back to base or something.

Or.... or.... don't laugh....

....maybe he had those exp runes that gives bonus xp. They still exists and someone may be as bad as to use them :D

Great Muta1 votes

No jungler. No one ganks top ever in Bronze/Silver. It's just something you don't do.

I suppose a chicken camp was possible somewhere, but I didn't see it and it's pure speculation.

I actually did consider exp runes being part of it, but I feel like there's something I'm not understanding.

Incorrect. I'm Silver and I see top ganks a lot.

1st: XP is gained from being around the death of minions, not by last hitting them yourself. If you backed and came back but still had more cs than him, he was still in lane to soak xp from minions dying more than you were

2nd: Junglers can sometimes sap xp from lanes when they are waiting to gank

3rd: Jungle camps do exist and if they took a camp then it's possible for them to have more xp than you

4th: Objective experience

5th: and...as many of players have said...xp runes xD

You don't need to kill a minion to get experience for it.

Unless it's the jungle I guess.

Doctor Jarvis1 votes

You don't get extra xp for killing the minions. Did you ever back? Did they? Did they take a camp ever? Were you ever completely zoned off the wave, even just for a few minions?

Great Muta1 votes

I was pushing him back to his tower, so I don't see where the extra xp comes from.

Literally, if I do the same thing, I'll be 2 levels down.

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

if you shove and go back and he stays that could do it

If you both miss a wave but he got a wave with a large minion that could make a difference

He may have also just had his minions dying slower than your own since the tower was helping

who were you playing

Great Muta1 votes

As Jax vs Voli. He hit level 6 first, got the kill and was able to steamroll me, but he still lost the game. Jax's 1000 HP could not keep up with 400HP ult's, even with ignite.

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

Volibear could have easily killed the rood doods in the jungle

additionally, if the minions are shoved under tower and the tower is helping to kill your minions while voli's minions are safe he will get exp for each minion that dies while you get nothing until his minions somehow die.

So if you are both at the same level and about to level up, he will level up first and you will level up once his own minions, which you've trapped under his tower where you can't reach, have died.

shoving minions under the enemy tower is not always wise

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Were you the mid-laner and pushed under your tower in the first few levels?

If so, your jungler may have leeched some experience when they were killing Raptors.

Great Muta1 votes

I was top, I had Voli pushed back the whole time. No jungler, because no one ganks top ever.

I hug turrets all the time(minus this game) and I'm always down in xp, levels and cs.

Some toplaners like to steal one little sentinel at enemy blue for an early level 2 :P

Eedat1 votes

Because you don't have to hit a minion to get XP. You just have to be close to it when it dies. The enemy Langer cab get more XP even if they're bad at last hitting..

If you were pushing them back under tower there is a chance you are missing XP if some of his minions die to your minions under his tower. Proper back timing can also increase XP advantages

If your jungler came to gank and was still around while minions died they would get some of the XP as well

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

experience is shared and they can also shove minions under your tower

there's also runes

Also if they clear the wave faster than you then they could level faster

additionally not all waves are the same, if they cleared a bigger wave they will level faster

if you make pets they can kill pets to level I think

They can also kill stuff in jungle

There's also exp from other teammates capturing objectives if that still exists

you can also get exp from standing too close when the jungler kills something

the enemy is bad at csing

You also get xp from enemy champions dying nearby, even after you've died your body stays on the map while you're dead and will still get xp if anything dies around your body until you respawn.
