The 1000 HP+ combos in the first 15 minutes are getting pretty old

Great Muta··43 votes·2,711 views

Watching a Yas hit me for 1200 hp at 15 mins in. Saw a Quinn do the exact same thing. Definitely balanced and fair to the game when I only have 1400 HP to begin win.

Edit - Yas just followed it up with a 1700 HP combo in 21 mins

quinn does it way too fast that you barely have time to react

Great Muta5 votes

Yep. I tried Quinn yesterday and murdered Signed. I was something like 5-1 on my first Quinn try. Just E, E, E.

Revali3 votes

did your auto correct change Singed into signed?

lmao

Great Muta17 votes

It's 9:55, I don't care and I don't play him. His new name is signed. Has an ethnic ring to it.

Meep Man18 votes

That was a bad Singed. A true Singed would be simply too good to ever die and would run away and get the kill anyways.

Spoofghoul14 votes

singed being 0/5 sounds pretty normal to me though

TequilaZombie4 votes

I'm worthless now, TIME TO PROXY INSIDE THEIR BASE!

WinTheWarOnPants1 votes

that sounds like a very good/safe singed to me... normal singed is 0-18 at 25 min

WacingTheFind1 votes

And has 500 cs

Lexdrix1 votes

Not only that. Her range has broken over towers range hitting you while you hug tower, just ridiculous and we know how easy it is to tower dive at full health.

JuiceNJews11 votes

Amen, I fondly look back on the days when you had to properly manage your resources/mobwave/cooldowns if you wanted to secure a kill 1v1.

Now it's just whoever gets the thunderlord proc off without the otherone being able to answer wins the lane, from there on it will just be a occational trading match until lvl 3 then all in, boom, bang, goodnight. Much skillz.

edit: As for those 1k combos at 15 minutes... I'd say it's common that they happen considerably earlier, especially if someone manages to snowball.

Stalinium1 votes

If I can't do 1000 damage as Talon by 15 minutes, I'm so totally utterly fucking worthless it isn't even funny. So I agree

Boulderox9 votes

I remember some video where they made a valid point. Back in season 2,3 pr even 4, a full combo and ignite would half health a target. Now it is hit 3, go aggro, get kill because of stupid shit does too much free damage.

sdsdfdf2 votes

lel no ur wrong

JavelinJoe4 votes

no they are not, they actually have a good point. so much free damage is in the game currently. How many recent champions have been given some form of % health damage?

Anidan2 votes

There's a lot of damage now, but that doesn't mean there wasn't an absolute shitload of damage going on in previous seasons. It was just the fact that the items were in a much more precarious position than they are even now so champions stand out significantly less.

Also, I like how many people ask for safety nets for a champion in case they get behind so they aren't useless, but apparently the most reliable one (in terms of damage at least) is rebuked because it's fundamentally broken. The only other way to make sure someone isn't largely useless if they fall behind is to make sure they have some form of CC. Because if we allow them to properly fall behind, people are going to call for reworks because the champion is too feast or famine (see: Fiora, Tryndamere, a few others) and has no place specifically because of how severe the risk is if the, usually not significant enough, pay-off doesn't come through.

Unfortunately in League, thanks its balance philosophy and the balance 'levers' at work in this game (damage scaling being a very important one), this was kind of an inevitability.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Well Feast or Famine has its place. Fiora was an issue because when she was ahead she'd just ult and kill someone while being untargetable, but when she was behind she would do maybe 1/4 of a teams hp. It wouldn't have been an issue if you could prevent her from doing it.

Old Fiora aside, Feast or Famine is fine to an extent.

Captain Aishi4 votes

in season 3 i'd get first blood with renekton as soon as I reached level 2 by building up 50 fury at level 1, then flash W auto Q auto igniting the enemy and 100-0ing them because base stats scaled completely linearly back then (the change they made to it late S4 or early S5 is why lane bullies have lost a lot of popularity, because you can't do that kind of early damage with any champ anymore)

CeexSett2 votes

In season 3 lvl 2 Riven with red pot and over 100 AD would first blood you 9/10 games.

Same for Fiora, who had 110 AD at level 2 with a long sword.. I don't think you miss those times.

Strawberrycocoa8 votes

I wish the game hadn't decided to cater to spazzy kids that like dumping fast damage on people. I miss when defensive items meant something, when an assassin had no chance of stopping a tank 1v1.

Leonerdo1 votes

I'm sorry "spazzy"? Well that's a slur I haven't heard in a while... And you're using it to try and make people with fast reflexes sound bad? I'm sorry this is just such a gem to me. +1000 internet points to you, and +1 downvote

Strawberrycocoa7 votes

"Spazzy" has nothing to do with gameplay reflexes, it's to do with impatient shits bitching and moaning about the speed of the gameplay.

It's getting jumped out of nowhere for 100-0 before you can even see the opponent to react, while they crow about how "good" they are, and they dub that balanced gameplay then turn around and bitch about how "unbalanced" it is when crowd control effects stop their kill spree. Then the game designers listen to the damage dealers instead of the defensive players because hooting crowds of tournament attendees and stream viewers spend all their time complaining about the game "taking too long", because they have no appreciation for strategic gameplay and just want to watch people die fast and frequently.

The game has grown more and more aggravating to deal with over the years because they cater to aggression and gut out everything that keeps damage dealers from their precious pentas. THAT'S what I mean by "spazzy": a complete crippling of defensive strategic options to cater to impatient jackasses who just want to kill a bunch of shit and gloat about it.

Leonerdo1 votes

Well, unfortunately for you, League IS a "spazzy" game. It's always been fast-paced. There have always been one-shot champions. If you want something slower, try Heroes of the Storm.

And yeah, pro tournaments have been stagnating and slowing down, and they have become mostly about defensive, super careful, strategic play. And yeah that's boring af to watch for most people. So yeah, Riot is trying to fix that shit so the pro scene is more bloodthirsty like the game the rest of us play, and have always played.

Strawberrycocoa8 votes

And yeah, pro tournaments have been stagnating and slowing down, and they have become mostly about defensive, super careful, strategic play. And yeah that's boring af to watch for most people.

See that's the shit I'm talking about, balancing the gameplay around people who aren't even PLAYING the damn game, because a crowd of people sitting on their asses shoving snacks down their mouth have the patience of a toddler.

Anidan1 votes

I like how you just went ahead and denigrated the audience of a game that wants to be a huge spectator sport... if a game wants to be a huge spectator sport, you have to appeal to the fact that they want something interesting to watch, not just interesting for the players - it has to be good for both for it to be huge.

Strawberrycocoa5 votes

Eh, I'll admit to being a bit bitter about it. I'm just tired of people being insufferably condescending about games they've NEVER EVEN PLAYED because they watched a stream or a tournament or a YouTube about it. The opinions of someone who just passively watches should NEVER hold equal or greater merit to the opinions of someone who actively participates.

But passive viewers give Riot more income than the actual players do, so they get to have all the say.

Handin Out Naps2 votes

I really don't get your logic, are you trying to imply people who watch lcs don't play league of legends? Because that's the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

You honestly just sound like a player who lacks the skill and knowledge to keep up in a fast paced game. I'm sorry that a lot of players don't want to see a couple mages sitting mid and clearing waves for the first 20 minutes of a game, or a couple tanks slapping each other around for a year. That doesn't make people "spazzy" or whatever the fuck you call it. And news flash tanks shouldn't be able to 1v1 anything anyway they are there to stop their backline from dying while the backline kills everything.

Strawberrycocoa5 votes

There's more people than you realize who watch without doing much actual playing. I'm saying the game should be balanced for GAMEPLAY, not audience viewing. It's not a hard concept.

It's not just LCS, although that's also part of the problem, it's stream viewers and people who just sit around watching other people play instead of playing themselves, then bitch about things they have no hands-on playtime with. Making game balance decisions because an audience wasn't hooting loud enough is just something that irritates my shit. *shrug*

I like defensive play styles, and my style of play is what they keep gutting out. Crowd control gets gutted, defenses get gutted, while damage and counters to dfenseive builds keep going up.

Anidan1 votes

In fairness, defensive play done well is actually very interesting to watch. It's just seems that League's version of defensive play usually (but not nearly always, don't let that mislead you) comes down to: Minimize all interaction with the enemy so you can lick your wounds and prepare for much later encounters. That's the kind of play that a lot of people don't like to see because, admittedly from the perspective of someone who has both watched and played League, it's pretty boring to watch that version of defensive play and it's not very interactive for the side that's trying to be on the offensive to just be largely ignored. Obviously this isn't the only defensive type of play or style, but it is one that I've fairly commonly seen brought up when it comes to viewing.

CC and defenses getting gutted, on the other hand, are harmful in the long-term for both balance and viewership because seeing everyone play Rocket Tag is only interesting the first few times. Variety is essential. Just like a team should be able to viably tank up and become megalodons of damage absorption, they should also have the chance to go riskier. It'd be boring if the only plays in football were running plays. So instead you have running plays, short passing plays, long-bomb passes, pump-fake running plays, and even the occasional half-back throwing the ball instead of the quarterback. Variety in strategy is absolutely essential for both playing and spectating. League is kinda dropping the ball on that one, for both sides.

Anidan1 votes

I've played a bit of Heroes of the Storm for fun and to see what it was like, and let me tell you: that game is also very fast-paced. With people like Zeratul, Kerrigan, Jaina and Kael'thas running around with absurd damage, your reflexes tended to have be pretty fast to not die in completely and utterly horrible ways. Obviously this is ignoring plenty of other heroes who do very high damage (like Li-Ming who does very high damage, with cooldown resets on kills), but still.

More realistically, if you're bloodthirsty you should be playing Heroes of the Storm which encourages highly aggressive play significantly more. If you want a slower game, you should play DotA2. If you want something in the middle, try League.

And SMITE fits in somewhere, I'm sure.

Great Muta1 votes

I have no real issues with HoTs, except for there not being a champ I love, but I just don't play it as much. No reason why.

Anidan1 votes

It's all fair enough, everyone has their preferences. I personally prefer DotA2 for example, but I can't deny that League can be an incredibly good and fun game when the balance team is on the ball. The lore team for League can be kinda rocky, but when they do well they knock it out of the park. On the other hand, League also does other things I don't like, but it's not worth getting into those, because there's no reason to say rude things about a game we're supposed to game together to mutually enjoy (unless the topic is explicitly brought up).

I personally didn't like HotS much, but it eventually grew on me. There's something about DotA2, SMITE, LoL and HotS that all grab me - which makes the eternal bickering about which one is the best and worst (which often relates that one to being irredeemable garbage) all the worse to me.

It Hertz When IP5 votes

I honestly hate LCS/esports and consider it the source of all balance problems for LoL.

Strawberrycocoa3 votes

Same here. I can't begrudge them wanting to maximize revenue, and I can't disagree that ticket sales and merch sales are good money to bring in, but the way so much of the game balance decisions focus on maintaining crowd appeal just becomes glaringly obvious and annoying after awhile. :\

PB4UAME3 votes

Oh my god. This. So fucking much this!

I've played this game since Udyr and Poppy's release, and it has just snowballed into CoD with 100+ characters. It used to take planing and multiple people, or multiple engagements to kill someone. If you were smart, you could play someone like Olaf or Garen top, and with just your initial boots and hp pots, stay up there for a solid 15-20 minutes laning. Now-a-days if someone hits you with a single CC you're gonna pop before you can react with everything they can pile on, and burst you 100-0 nearly instantly.

I had a Blitz game yesterday, where as a support tank I was getting blown up in .87, .76, 1.12, etc seconds from only two-three people; the later of those instances was under tower with two teammates near by-- at least it took slightly over a second.

Strawberrycocoa2 votes

I'm glad to see someone else remembers life before everything was, "blitz you in two seconds before the crowds get bored". Xd

PB4UAME1 votes

I think back to what I consider the golden era of League (season 2-4) every time I play, and it just makes me so sad. This game started out crazily in the first season, but then began to solidify into a genuinely fun and more or less fair game. Everyone had their roles and the means to accomplish them. Assassin's didn't steal tank/fighter items, nor did ADCs. There was much less mobility and CC overall (a good thing, I must say) not to mention less damage, and more sustained over burst for the damage that was there.

You know what this allowed for? You could always be useful, and even when you were caught out, you could at least react. You could do something.

P.S. before anyone brings up supports being garbage or whatever in earlier seasons, I've pretty much exclusively played supports and tanks/bruisers the whole time, and I would happily take being a ward bitch if it meant we had the rest of those seasons over what we have currently ANY DAY OF THE FUCKING WEEK

Narasimha2 votes

I mean, what assassin, apart from perhaps Zed, do you think goes toe-to-toe against tanks? And I mean assassins, not tanko.

THE RlVER KlNG7 votes

Damage creep is just so damn high nowadays. New champions like Jhin and Kled and even Taliyah can output so much damage so quickly, or at least at ridiculous levels, even going back to champions like Tahm, Ekko, Illaoi.....and don't get me started on roster updates like Vlad, Cait, Graves, Malz......damage has just shot through the roof nowadays and it's getting really fucking old. There was a post like a day ago about how the OP just wants a real support or a real tank as the next release instead of all these mages and ADCs and bruisers who just blow everything up with their huge numbers.

GULAG 4 U5 votes

1200 damage? death recap please? I'd like to see math and proof before we say numbers.

1200 damage over 5-8 seconds in an all in isn't that much honestly. Annie's and many others can outwards burst one once they get their hands on over ~80 ap depending on the champion. Or their poke will hit you for 30% of your health.

The Deckowner1 votes

Death recap is fucking garbage lol

GULAG 4 U1 votes

"I'd like to see math and proof before we say numbers."

tbh you never see death recap's dmg add up to your hp unless you have been hit by nothing but autoattack from the same target.

Yas with Tri Force. Level 11, AD reds and Quints, 18/12/0 masteries. Total AD=131

Qx3=693 damage AAx3=393 Triprocx2=332 Ult=372 E=at least 110, I'm using 165 because it's not hard for Yas to stack his dash Fervor of Battle=1 stack from dash followed by all the other hits for 2 each, 9+26+43+60+2(69)=276

Total raw damage=2231, depending on your champ that could be well over 1.2K, it's almost always going to be at least 1.2K. You could argue it's not all burst, but that's not that important when you're suspended in the air for 5 and a half years.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

3 qs even with 1.33 cd would mean you would skip one triforce proc. You didn't take in account of armor and that's after many many seconds so yeah it's pretty invalid.

LankPants1 votes

3 qs even with 1.33 cd would mean you would skip one triforce proc.

Triforce starts its CD on the first ability used. It's 0, 1.5, 3 and so on. Assuming Yas has less than capped Q at that point, he procs it with every Q.

You didn't take in account of armor

I didn't include armour but the list of champs who can reduce 2.2k to less than 1.2k through 50% bonus armour pen is limited, to say the least.

that's after many many seconds so yeah it's pretty invalid.

Under 4 seconds, 2 of which is spent in the air. You seem to not understand that abilities start off off CD. If Yas's Q has a 2 second CD he can use it 3 times in 4 seconds because the first use is at second 0.
