Any tips on beating or at least laning against Illaoi?

Because she punishes you for engaging her and punishes you for breaking her pull. She does huge amounts of damage and can heal for a cubic fuckton in a team fight. Right now you can only kill her with ranged champions that have some sort of mobility that can weave in and out of all of her grabs, smashes and tentacles. Other than that....Ban her.

Kill her tentacles when you can safely. Learn to predict her Spirit grab. Learn to dodge her Q. When she ulti's usually you want to just back off without wasting anything, as she has no way of moving her tentacles from the location she ultied you at. IMO it's a free farm or kill lane against her.

Play Trundle, otherwise:

With many toplaners, Illaoi is not stronger than you. Her goal is to get you whittled down, and to get as much free damage on you as possible before E -> Ulting you. If you're ranged she wants to E you to chunk you, make you a vessel, and force you to back off.

If she E's you, it is often better to just jump on her and trade with her. At low levels, and with no tentacles around, you won't be a vessel, and she will often focus the spirit instead of you, effectively giving you 75% damage resistance. If she Q's both you and the Spirit, it may hurt, but the cooldown will not let her do it twice, get autos in then back off.

Keep killing her tentacles. If you get a hit off on a tentacle, don't worry about her W-ing you. You'll get the second hit off before the tentacle hits you, and you can then trade with her.

If she ults, move the fight, don't stay there.

Unless you're Trundle.

Because a 47% win rate is "OP", right? LOL. Numbers don't lie. Illaoi is currently the second worst top laner (Ryze is the worst, and Poppy doesn't count because she's only been out a few days).

Thanks for all the advice guys, ill definitely try to use them the next chance i get. Another question, if you end up as melee and she is last picked, is there any way to deal with it or are you just screwed?
