How I Feel as Nautilus Chasing an Enemy

Dunno how you insert gifs, but this (http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view2/1214387/stewie-playing-tuba-o.gif). Naut is the fat guy and Stewie is the enemy.

I tried him for the first time in co-op and ganking Swain went something like this. Q, Swain walks away. E, Swain is slowed for a second, but he walks away again. Ult, Swain almost dies, but Naut is too slow to keep on him and he gets in turret range. I'm assuming I should invest in some movement speed or attack speed runes for the guy if I intend to take him into the jungle in an actual match.

In an actual match, you have an ally that backs you up and one of you will take the kill, or at the very least you cause Swain to burn his flash trying to get away. Ideally he's also pushed in, making his walk back behind the turret seem like a mile.

One important note about building attack speed on Nautilus is that you aren't building it for your basic attack. You are building it for Titan's Wrath, which is the main meat of your damage. If you have mana and it's not on cooldown, you should always be using it when you enter a fight. Wit's End and Nashor's Tooth are ideal choices, as they both deal extra magic damage on hit (meaning most tanks won't mitigate it with their armor), one gives 20% cooldown, and one strips away magic resist while boosting your own. Liandri's Torment is also a key item on Nautilus, especially with all the crowd control he has.

That's one of the biggest points about tanks, though. You're not meant to jump in and nuke the enemy to high hell. You win with a combination of teamwork and a war of attrition.

True. I made the leap to a normal match just to see how I'd do tossing myself into the deep end and it went moderately well.

I need to work on my Qs, of course. I'm okay with Blitzcrank-style rocket hooks, but the slower ones like Thresh's and Nautilus's are more of a challenge for me. Is Amumu's bandage toss any faster? Since I also find that a little less difficult to land, though my bandage toss skills could also use a little work.. But that's just me needing to work on my skill shots overall.

Aside from that, though, our team comp was based entirely around insuring they don't get away, and so they didn't manage it that often. We had Tryndamere top, Nunu mid, and Ashe and Morgana bot. What we lacked in sheer offensive firepower, we made up for in CC.

It was kinda beautiful watching it in action at times. For example, one time Warwick popped his head mid to go for Nunu, and I instantly came to his defense, as I was right nearby. I couldn't shield him from death, yet I managed to whittle Warwick and Viktor, who was also nearby, down to next to no HP. Still, I was about to die when, out of nowhere, there comes Ashe's ult killing one and helping me finish off the other.

Ended up finishing 7/2/9 in an easy first match. The quality of opponent helped, as I out CSed everyone on the enemy team with 115, and their closest being 92. That being said, it scratched the "hate" part of my love/hate relationship with Nautilus. My second match wasn't such a rousing success, as our Rengar was prone to ignoring the Akali we had vision on, which helped her snowball nicely. He also didn't appear to understand how to play from behind. Our mid told him to farm, hug turret, and build tanky, but he ignored that advice, instead blaming me for all his shortcomings because I only ganked once, instead choosing to help out our mid and bot lanes which were at least not completely lost. He even remarked upon how much damage he took at one point, as if that told me anything but he hadn't followed the sound advice of Wukong and built tanky. Sigh. Still went 0/3/7, so it could've been worse. You live and you learn.

So, as Nautilus, while chasing, you feel like you're...being followed?

Also, your passive is a root if you bothered to right click the enemy. 4/5 of Naut's abilities are CC. Not sure how you're having problems.

More like I feel as if I'm being taunted the whole time as I just slowly lumber after them. With follow-up from someone else, it's not so bad, but trying to solo is just beyond frustrating. It's not a perfect gif. It's just what immediately came to mind for some reason.

And people do seem to suggest you run movement and attack speed runes on him, so I don't seem to be alone in finding him a bit slow. Given his design, it makes sense why he would be slow. I'm just used to champions like Vi, Warwick, Wukong, Amumu, and Sejuani who can actually get after an enemy in a decent amount of time without having to chain CC them just to keep them from simply walking away since they're much faster than your slow self.

Plus, like I said, it was my first time playing him.

You ganked a Swain without any followup? Did you intend to try and fight alone as a tank, or did your midlaner just space out for a bit? Because if you're trying to solo high CC, high sustain bruiser mages like Swain...you're gonna run into problems no matter who you pick.

One time, just to see if I could. Nearly killed him solo when I was levels behind. But the other times our Akali didn't have the quickest, best follow up. I kept thinking "you're Akali, how have you not killed him by now?"

It was a bot match and so I was testing out what I could do in different situations. I also tried to solo dragon level 8, which wasn't that easy but I did it, and checked to see if my shield had any real impact upon turret shots.

It also probably didn't help that I was trying to gank a CC heavy mid laner who could just counter my CC with some of his own.
