The Yasuo Rant (and possible solutions)

Well this one's going definitely not going to win me any friends. I play league for various reasons, mainly because I think its fun. However, there are certain champions that make me angry to even encounter in game. I feel cheated whenever they enter a game and I firmly believe everyone has champs like this. Pet peeve champs for example, so many people hate playing against Teemo that its become a legendary league meme. Personally these champions are mainly Riven, Nidalee, Fizz, and the big one.

I'll put a warning here, I am going to use fairly sound logic here to describe why I despise the dumbest most broken champ in the entire game and if you're 60% of Yasuo players I've dealt with you're going to get incredibly pissed at me for even thinking of talking badly about your god. If you fit into the other 40% then maybe you're willing to listen to reason and perhaps even respond to my utter vile spit at him with some logical counterpoints. Without further ado, I am going to piss off a large majority of newer and/or meta only players.

Lets start with his passive, way of the wanderer: Pretty standard stuff, Yasuo uses no mana, understandable hes a wind master and all of his techniques would use the wind around him. Yasuo generates a resource called flow when moving in any way, the flow can be consumed to form a shield scaling with level. Not too bad, a straightforward passive with obvious counterplay via the occasional AA. Sure his dashes fuel it, but still, easy to pop. Oh wait, its upwards of 600 damage by late game? So he can block an entire Cho'Gath ult for free? Ok, I mean that's annoying but not game breaking. Ok second part, Yasuo gains x2 crit chance at only 90% increased damage from crit. Wat..... WHAT?! You're telling me Yasuo can get 100% crit chance with 1 & 1/2 items?! Oh but they compensated with a 10% damage reduction. BIG FRIGGIN WHOOP RIOT. Hes still going to be chunking my health like a late game MF on roids.

Moving on, his Q Steel Tempest: Yasuo fires a short range skillshot, OK, I gotcha this is most of his damage and he depends on it to make decent plays, NOPE.AVI...... This spell is treated as an auto attack and is therefore reliant on Attack Speed to reduce cooldown. Now that makes it sound like Yas needs to make a choice, damage or low cooldowns. Riot thought of that and gave him the second part of his passive. This spell can crit every time on a 2.5 second cooldown with, may I repeat, ONE AND A HALF ITEMS. Now, after he hits a target with this spell twice, he has a decently long window of time to fire it again to launch a tornado at a surprisingly large range (and with a really odd hitbox) to basically extend his Q with more damage. The tornado can crit and knocks any targets up in the air. I would save this next part for talking about his BS ultimate, but we know what it does..... We all know. Riot and Yasuo defenders claim that Yasuo needs a team to support him but I say HE DOES NOT NEED ANYONE ELSE FOR KNOCKUPS. His tornado has a stupidly wide hitbox, much wider than his normal Q and does not stop at the first champion hit so it can very easily hit several champs. Now you may say, "But wait, the enemy can just spread out or use spells to avoid the knockup YOU LOSER NOOB" To that I say that can be said about any knockup on any champion that does not make a direct counter to Yasuo.

Next his W.... DO I EVEN NEED TO SAY IT? Its a wall that lasts for WAY TOO LONG that blocks, You ready for it if you didnt already know? ALL PROJECTILES. Anything with a projectile speed POOF Useless against this stupid champ. High cooldown? NOT AS HIGH AS THAT CAITLYN/VARUS/FIZZ/ ULTIMATES YOU JUST RUINED. Its so stupid things like Vel'Koz's void rift which rips through the ground is blocked by a wall IN MIDAIR! Thank christ for Azir and his zoning prowess.....

His E.... I have nothing to say that hasn't been said before. Its retarded he gets so many free dashes on a at the most .5 second cooldown. The damage used to be infinite, now its just x1.5, but that's still not needed. The damage is AP..... why did they up the damage on his mobility spell? Oh.. and just to reiterate, this makes flow so stupidly easy to generate. OH AND HE CAN USE Q AT THE END FOR A GUARANTEED KNOCKUP! And he needs a team to back him up? I call BS

His ultimate, I swear to everything holy this is one of the dumbest ultimates in the history of League. In a game where we have a old man turning into a giant bird, THIS is what breaks me. Yasuo dashes to the closest target(S) that have been displaced. People assume this means knockups, but its not, its any displacement. Lee sin kick, Naut pull, Maokai Q, Blitz hook, Thresh flay, RAMMUS POWERBALL FFS! On top of that, afte rhe dashes to them, holds them in the air for a while, and slams them down for a ton of free damage that they cannot prevent if they get knocked up. Upon landing Yasuo immediatley gets 50% armor pen for way too long. I'm sorry but who was the last person who had 50% armor pen and was called a serious problem and then nerfed 7 times? (Sorry, still salty about that.... salty....SALTY).

The problem with Yasuo is not how stupidly broken he is, but how blissfully ignorant of the problem Riot and Yasuo players cause. I have never met a good Yasuo player who was also gracious. They always BM and they always act toxic as Chernobyl. I know very well that all the Yasuo mains that see this are going to come in, downvote, and immediatley flame me for these maledictions, but at this point I've accepted that. I'm sick and tired of seeing Yasuo in every other game unless I get him banned by some miracle.

So how do I fix it then you might ask. Well I have a few ways.

  1. Increase the cooldown on his Q and make it scale with normal CDR
  2. His tornado still goes through all champions hit, but only knocks up the first 2/3/4 hit (Idk how it would scale)
  3. He can no longer ult on any displacement, only major displacement so no more Rammus Q ultimates
  4. Wind wall can now only block 5 projectiles. This might actually give it counterplay
  5. Alternatively to #4, his wind wall does not last nearly as long and dissipates immediately on reaching the end of the travel, but still blocks all projectiles in that time so maybe it would take some game knowledge and skill to use
  6. His ultimate now gives 30/40/50% armor pen, so his ulti remains as strong, but is only as good in late game where he is supposed to be useful
  7. No more x2 crit chance, I'm fine with the idea of a crit based champion, but either make his crits hurt less or make it take longer to reach 100%. Not necessarily no crit chance increase, but not x2.
  8. Tweak his stats. Yasuo was advertised as a late game assassin with a bad early game. What we got as bullet hell simulator with tornadoes at all points in the game. I think changing either his late game prowess or his early game prowess would solve Yasuo's biggest unbalance. He can get thrashed in laning phase, but with a Stattik Shank and a spiky glove (Yes I know the real name) He can still 1v1 the ADC, Dragon, Support, and eat a danish with his free hand. Hit his early game stats or hit his late game stats, but his laning phase is too strong for a late game assassin.

I know very well this is going to make all the Yasuo mains angry, so I expect this to either fall on deaf ears or get downvoted extremely harshly, but if I can get a few people to think and realize this is a problem, then I'll be satisfied. Look, I like Yasuo's design, his lore, and his concept, but it was so poorly executed and just makes the game so unfun to play.

Okay. I am a Yasuo main.

The "600 health" shield lasts for less than two seconds, if not less.

Want to know how to beat him? Easy stuff here.

Just play a hard engage with cc. Malphite, xin, etc... They all can beat him easily.

It sounds like you are playing someone easy for him to beat. Perhaps play one of the counters I mentioned, and you will realize his weakness.

Yasuo - Master Yi, but good.

Anything you'd use to counter Yi works well on him too.

Also as an Ahri main, windwall really hurts. And Ahri is generally my safe pick, who I select if I don't know who my lane opponent will be. And like 99% of matchups are totally playable with Ahri. And it would be vs Yasuo too, but that Wind Wall can literally stop every ability I have + auto attacks. And it's not on such a long cooldown that he can't throw it up every single minion wave to keep me from last hitting as well.

You literally can't even just play safe and farm. If you roam, his waveclear is his enough that your tower will die. Won't win in lane, won't win out of it. You lose in champion select.

He does the same thing to almost every "safe" mid lane pick. Even Lulu. First picking mid while Yasuo exists will always be extremely dangerous.

This would be a change that ruins his game flow, not for it at all. I also don't agree with reducing his crit/passive damage further. Anything fed or late game does a lot of damage, it's just that Yasuo's damage steroids are on his passive and ultimate in the form of consistent damage that is lower due to the damage reduction, and armor penetration.

Primarily you're just listing complaints- which I can understand. Regardless of how much a kit promotes meaningful player interaction, there will be match ups or players that find them extremely irritating or frustrating to play against.

I think Yasuo is fine, any champion can have their numbers altered up or down to make them stronger or weaker, but Yasuo isn't in a particularly amazing or bad place right now, and he does have a high skill cap with the kit that allows him and the opponent, (if they aren't binary) to outplay each other, which is something I am a large proponent of.

I'm for champions which have a high skill cap, are less binary and have good flow, so I approve of Yasuo's design.

People still complain about Yasuo? Seriously?

Yasuo is a Late game MELEE HYPERCARRY. Not an assassin... Zed is an Assassin, Kha'Zix is an assassin. Have you seen what a Zed can do to him if they meet out in the open somewhere with no minions nearby? Thats is what an assassin is like...

Also, if you can't sidestep his tornado, there is somthing terribly wrong with you. Just practice your sidesteps a bit and pick properly against him. It's not yasuo's problem that you didn't pick an Assassin against him to shit on his face.

HAHAHAH Yasuo hate, i love it, let's all ignore the fact that he is a high skill cap, has a long wind wall cd, if he gets behind by 1 gank early on, it's over, has countless counters that not only just counter him, but fucking ruin his day.

Let's also ignore the constant bugs he has with windwall and his ult, and let's also ignore that Malz just received basically the super version of his passive considering it will block hard cc from champs like Braum's ult (real creative Riot).

Just because you aren't smart enough to counter pick him, or because he got fed by one of your team mates if your in a different lane, doesn't make him a god or OP in any way shape or form, any champ would do the same damn thing if they get fed.

Let's also ignore that 1 single cc on him in any fight, and it's over, dead that fast.

Just because it takes more than a braincell to outplay him doesn't make him OP in any way, he has countless counters, learn to counter and or stun or be smarter than his passive....

Did you know, his passive is gone with 1 auto attack? and that his is vulnerable the moment it's gone? ESPECIALLY if you can force his long ass wind wall cd aswell.

Nerfs across the board to an already mediocre champion with no compensation isn't the way to approach this.

Yasuo is fun to play, problem is he's not always fun to play against, and that's what should be addressed. There's nothing wrong with his kit numerically.

I agree with a lot of this. He gets 60% crit and alot of his cooldown just from statikk shiv alone. Lets not forget that yes he can be countered by melee champs but that is if he doesn't go tank yasuo, which is a thing, then he can wait for his jungler to gank next thing he's ahead and stays ahead by one gank and no counterplay against him anymore. Now he has 60% crit enough cooldown for his Q and can start building tanky which no other champ can do. His lane is a lot safer than most people give him credit for especially against all range character and even mages for that matter. Get to minion wave cast windwall farm up a bit gather shield enough to withstand 1 auto and safely farm build shield back up, then windwall again rinse and repeat. Also don't see this high skill cap considering he is in every other game literally.

Also don't see why he gets 50% bonus armor pen on lvl 1 ult where he can pretty much smash anyone and even tanks with.
