No, he should not die to nearly any champion that sneezes his way. Currently, Karthus feels weak because at no point in the game can he be reliably safe. He is very weak because he can get towered dived so easily due to his no CC, low HP kit
It's no wonder this champion is barely played despite being quite unique and fun to play

simply is not that kind of champion you want to first pick
he is fine, his kit is fine, he just has hard counters that can completely destroy him. but i see no problem with that, you just have to consider this in champ select already.

PPPPPPPPPPPP2701 votesKarthus is a team fighter. His late game involves getting into the center of the fight and suicide. Being in his range is taking several hundred damage per second if he doesn't hit W. even more if he hits them.
His ultimate is a 1000 damage nuke late game. If some fool had their edge of night just for the ultimate in a team fight. Punish him for that. The lethality ADCs aren't mobile and assassins still need to dive a back line with strong peel.
