Does it really matter what I pick in Bronze?

It seems that emotions and luck have more of an effect on bronze games than skill. I've been completely destroyed as perfectly viable support champions by people who either weren't bronze or shouldn't be in bronze, yet done well playing champs like Kalista and Kled that have no business going support. Since skill doesn't seem to be the most important factor in winning at Bronze, does it really matter what champion I pick for a role if games are decided by which team tilts first?

I feel the question should be:

"Should it really matter at all which champion you pick in what role?"

Yeah, that's a better rephrasing of it.

If you know how to play the champion, not at all.

I think as long as you play a champion that you know how to play, then that's okay. Just make sure that they have some qualities that fit the role. Like, let's say you were autofilled support, but you don't have any "support" champions. You have Vi, though! That's okay! Play Vi! She has enough reliable CC to work. Just start with a relic shield, build her like a tank, and you're good to go.
