Why is the invasion mode so hard?

NuggeTech··12 votes·3,060 views

I have played two matches on the normal mode. Lost both of them. Seriously, why is it so hard? I remember there was a game mode where Teemo was the end boss. That is how the difficulty should be balanced. The hard difficulty was brutal and the normal one was easygoing.

Not only that, the game does a poor job of describing how to play the mode. It just tells us kill the monsters. Which is obviously obvious. It does not tell us that the health packs can heal our entire team or the mana regen can regen our entire team. Not only that, the part where we have to stay in the barrier, first timers have zero idea that they have to stay inside the barrier. I died twice in that part, because I had no idea that I will lose health.

The enemy team has way too short CDs. KogMaw keeps machine gunning us while Chogath and RekSai keep us tossing in the air. The rift herald is the very epitome of a BS boss but I'll let is slide because he is the boss. And don't get me started on Velkoz. The champ that is easy for me to face against in a normal LoL game spams orbs with a hit box the size of a god d**n whale.

And for us the players , barring Lux, MissFortune and Syndra, the champs don't feel that they have any impact at all. Surprisingly Lux is the best support here even though we have Soraka and Lulu. Syndra is just better than Ahri. And MF as usual destroys Jinx and Ezreal. Haven't played as or with a Janna yet so can't say.

Now coming to the missions, why TF do I have to team up with 5 pre-mades. Getting a Duo is hard enough, why do I need 5 to actually reap the awards? I know there are free but, C'MON MAN!. Someone did the math reddit and it turns out that majority of them require 5-man pre-mades (not sure about this).

I really wish Riot does something about this. It is a really, really good mode. I probably enjoy it more than Urf because I like PvE than PvP. But this is ridiculous. Adding the dificulty lower elo players are basicully f**ked. I am in bronze because my mechanics are not good. How am I supposed to win even if I get a 5-man premade man?

Riot knew that people are gonna spend money this event because popular champs like Ahri, MF, Syndra are getting really good skins. Now they want to gouge our wallets more. Oh and BTW they are charging 175 RP more if you want to buy the skin bundle for a certain champ.

They really fucked it up. It wasn't tested properly and the whole mode is botched due to them overtuning the AI's and enforcing penalties on the players for no reason what so ever.

It's a cool idea, it really is and i really want t enjoy the event and the mode, but I'm really angry for once that they managed to fuck this up. The whole thing has been a complete and utter disaster and unless they hotfix it soon it will go down as Riot's worst event and game mode to date.

NuggeTech5 votes

I doubt the mode will. The event looks on the path on becoming so. Look at my situation.

  1. Played a game on normal
  2. Lost it
  3. Completed the first mission. Git my hopes up that it might be easier to get the rewards.
  4. Read the requirements and they were that i have to win a game on onslaught with both the new and old teams, win on onslaught as marksman, mage and utility and win on onslaught as not playing as a marksman, mage and utility.

I lost on the easier mode. How tf am I supposed to win these?

Onslaught mode just cant be beaten. The problem is the AI's are way overtuned. Velkoz in particular is bad and though an overtuned enemy here and there would not be bad, try fighting 20 + Velkoz 's all with those overturned stats. Its gets to the point where this is so much happening on screen you get confused and disoriented on whats even happening.

Like I said the idea behind it is good, and amazing, but whoever decided it had to be insanely difficult should never be allowed t work on a Riot event ever again. You simply cannot expect players to lose over and over and over and over and over and expect t have fun doing it, especially when LoL itself is a competitive game.

I really wanted to like this mode and event but the whole thing is an utter disaster. I'd be embarrassed if i were on te team who designed this event.

I doubt Riot will change it. They never have gone back on their mistakes as far as I can remember (Rengar mistake comes to my mind). What's even shocking some are defending this. Go to reddit and take a look

There was a worse mistake they reverted.

Killing solo queue in favor of dynamic/flex queue.

You can't be serious.

http://i.imgur.com/G3uyAAJ.jpg I did all those wins solo with a lot of random team comps on pbe, and the difficulty is the same on live. i could have a higher winrate on the live server if i wanted too but that won't be till i get my no marksman mission finished later today when i play again since the only missions i would have left after that is getting A+/S+.

Just take poppy/soraka and enjoy your free win.

it camn be beaten we beat it twice in 2 hours yesterday. If u guys think this is unbeatable play some old ass nes games that were hard.

NuggeTech1 votes

Of course it's not unbeatable. Single player games are always harder than multi player ones. What many and I are angry that Riot has done an awful job with integrating the mission with the modes. The first match I tried to play srsly. Lost in a really unfair way. Tried again and got to the boss. My team were just unable to cope with the spawns. I stopped caring abt the missions and just wanted to have fun. The most recent game I played was in onslaught so that I could take a look at how high elo players. By far the most fun I've ever had in League of legends.

It's the way the missions are. They are done in the most greediest way possible

Reminds me a lot of PUG raiding in WoW. The difference is there's no group finder, so you can't:

1: Kick the bads who keep getting pegged by skillshots and wiping the group.

2: Enforce some kind of team comp. If you don't have a Jinx and a Soraka, it's going to be a hassle to do it with randoms.

Definitely too much of a hassle to do with random players. MAYBE I'll do it with 4 friends, but no way in solo queue.

NuggeTech1 votes

Hmm I don't think it is exactly like PuG. I raid as PuG and I have a lot of success through that. This is different. I guess Riot tested it among themselves and thought that it was ok to push it. Or they got greedy

ForFoxSakes2 votes

Even a PUG knows they need a specific comp.

The quests here are explicitly designed to make you need to go PUG raid with no tank or healers because "of a challenge"

The thing that mostly annoys me is that while everything is over tuned, the hit-boxes are atrocious: vel koz q / ult beam are the main offenders / they don't visually match the actual width of projectiles properly.

Christ Vel can ult too in this mode? I hope Cho can't ult as well

Killer30001892 votes

If it's one of the super cho's they can and they can ult you at any health, keep you inside them until you finally die

the big shiny one can eat you if youve recently taken damage, and he one hits you

Heriba1 votes

the big chos only eat the MARKED PLAYER and will only atack(not counting the aoe behind him when he walks) and go afther HIS MARKED player so you team can hit him like degenerates, until he eats someone and change the mark

both cho and vel's bigger versions can ult.... cho eats you till either you or he dies...

btw actually managed to complete onslaught once... the stress became actual pain.

It just really needs to start you off with more gold and give more gold after each wave / per second.

Look no offense but some of the things you said are simply not true. Ezreal, Syndra and Soraka all are pretty strong in this mode.

I agree with you that the mode is way too hard but it is winnable. The stupid requirements for shitty team comps and full premades is quite ridiculous though.

NuggeTech1 votes

I guess I am wrong. I haven't played with Soraka yet so can't say. But the games that I did play Ezreal was overshadowed by MF probably because of her ult. And I did say Syndra is the best mage available in the mode.:) Even though Ahri is my favorite mage, her dmg is lackluster in comparison to Syndra and being an assassin she is weak against Cho and Reks

rtbf2256182412 votes

Well i don't meant to rank-shame you or anything but you get matched with people around your rank i'd assume so it would be quite often that you see inexperienced players. Some are just not used to playing these champions, or may be playing them for the first time since they're the only options.

Anyway, i only won 1 game and that's by playing Poppy. It's hard as hell, even for me as a Platinum player currently so it must be hell for you.

NuggeTech1 votes

I gave up on comp so I don't really care abt rank. But, and this might surprise you, the mode doesn't really care about the rank since it is PvE. I have played with bronze, silver, gold and even a diamond player.

rtbf2256182411 votes

Oh okay. Well people are different is what i meant i guess.

The best team comp I've found is honestly

Jinx MissFortune Poppy then you can go for any mage or support.

You just simply NEED jinx and mf to deal with waves and help shred the Big One. Ezreal is utter trash for this mode. Poppy is also a must simply because you need someone to body block and revive. Lulu and Janna seem better than Raka since Raka just runs dry way to quickly. Lux, Ahri and Syndra all work to their own varying degrees of success. Any other team is utter trash and it's sadly that simple.

The problem with this game mode is the fact that it is based on luck , the waves are probably random or are selected from a bunch of pre-saved patterns ... What is the problem with this you may ask, well let's say you get lucky the first time you play the mode as I did : we go in game we get all the Npcs to spawn kinda equally {we get each of them} and we beat them , no big deal... or you can get unlucky witch happened to me last game : In the part where the fighting zone moves all the enemies were skarners and vel'koz[s?] sooo we got full CC-ed while all the 20 vel'koz[s?] would shoot us from across the map. This mode is like 20% based on skill and 80% on luck .... and as we all know .... you don't get lucky pretty often [sry for borken english hope you understand]
