People Complaining About Onslaught Difficulty

Shuyin178··8 votes·1,442 views

This is legit like Doom Bots where it's suppose to be extremely difficult where you need to be good to win. One thing I hate in games is when their "Expert" mode just as easy as the other difficulties. I love a challenge, even when it seems impossible. Dark Souls Difficulty is fun because it's frustrating. Crash Bandicoot Difficulty is fun because it's frustrating. Onslaught Difficulty is fun because it's frustrating.

If Onslaught wasn't hard to beat then everyone would be disappointed at the lack of a challenge in a PvE game mode, it's perfectly fine as is because it's a real challenge unlike PvP which is so binary at this point.

The reason people are upset about the difficulty is mostly due to the fact all the missions are tied to Onslaught mode only. A ward skin and a free random champ token are not necessarily rewards that players are feeling is worth this level of difficulty.

I mean I am all for a bragging rights level difficulty modes for those who want a challenge but maybe tie the rewards to either mode and not just Onslaught?

Edit: I mean a free random champ permanent, not technically a token.

or don't because the real reason people are upset is because they don't understand they arent entitled to winning everything riot releases

this is the first challenging game mode that feels good. not everyone can get the rewards and thats how rewards should be

kind of like the ranked rewards, but no one in bronze complains about not getting a diamond border because it's been established for a long time

Tokala131 votes

Oh look you replied to both of my posts, see the above post I think it covers this reply also.

Riachy1 votes

nope it doesn't come close to covering my reply.

take out the rewards completely and anyone who enjoyed the game mode should still enjoy it afterwards

and your following statement here is hilarious to say the least ---> "I mean I am all for a bragging rights level difficulty modes for those who want a challenge but maybe tie the rewards to either mode and not just Onslaught?"

this is an analogy of how I read your statement: I'm all for bragging rights of achieving diamond and getting that border but i mean maybe tie the rewards so that if your bronze and played 1,000 games, then you can unlock the diamond border also.

You have quite an amusing attitude but I am going to be honest with you here, based off the tone of your posts and the lack of stable logic you are not looking for someone to offer discussion you are looking for an argument or to down those who do not agree with your opinion, neither of which I can offer, so... good day I suppose to you.

Riachy1 votes

Uhh funny hmm let me quote your stable logic here xD

"I mean I am all for a bragging rights level difficulty modes for those who want a challenge but maybe tie the rewards to either mode and not just Onslaught?"

I guess bragging rights means something else to you. Since you think that if you make the task able for anyone to complete, then it is still something worth bragging about.

Good day indeed.

Yeah, i agree. I actually like the onslaught mode when i want to play a hard mode by itself. But it's kinda annoying to go into a game with a bad comp (which is legit some of the missions) and then all die 5 games in a row because the mission requires you to have a bad team, and then suddenly all the time you have to play lol that die has consisted of you dying

Not everyone finds being frustrated by a game to be fun. Some of us play games for fun and relaxation. Onslaught is not fun. There should be an easier mode for the rest of us and let the sadomasochist have their insane frustration mode /sarc .

Tokala135 votes

Well there is an easier mode, but the missions don't work if you play Normal mode. Which is the core of the issue to me.

Riachy1 votes

do you complain about not receiving diamond rank rewards at the end of the season as well?

Tokala131 votes

Uh oh I struck a nerve it seems, you would not have brought out the sarcasm box otherwise.

And no, the point is more a base psychological ratio of risk vs reward, I was simply stating that given the rewards, a ward skin, or a free champ unlock, that the difficulty was not worth the trouble for the vast majority of players.

Typically when a game offers a bragging rights difficulty mode you get something a bit more worthwhile, which, in the case of ranked rewards, those are more icing on the cake for your skill and not outright the only reason one aims for ranked. Though I am sure some do given the number of players that exist.

Though there are exceptions of course, Shadow of The Colossus is somewhat notable for it's nice "bragging rights" rewards for the time trials, but then nowhere to really use them since you have beaten the game by then and cannot carry them to ng+.

Riachy1 votes

you get an icon AND a ward skin AND the champion unlock

im still failing to see your point btw

all i understood after reading it in context as a reply to arphaxadUSA was that onslaught is too hard but I want the rewards and because they arent available in normal mode, I have a problem.

Tokala131 votes

Technically you get the icon for free, then unless you do all the missions, half of which require premades, you get either the ward skin OR the champion unlock. Which are in monetary terms free, but require a heavy time investment which could be argued to be equivalent to monetary terms depending on your perspective since time carries an intrinsic value in of itself.

Though the and vs or bit is a minor point of semantics really since you can technically earn both if you wanted to badly enough. If you fail to understand my point though well, sorry to say that I am not here to convince you or alter your opinion of anything, Riot themselves has said the mission system is new and that they will be experimenting with each event and watching player feedback, so here we are at player feedback. If you have an issue with my opinions on risk vs reward then all I can say is I politely agree to disagree with you.

Good day to you. :)

Riachy1 votes

No...sigh... you get an icon for doing the S mission also.

Good day indeed.

There are Ranked rewards for every level of play, ranging from a simple summoner icon for Bronze to a jacket, shiny border, and victorious skin for Challenger. You've got about a year to earn such rewards.

There's no such scaling system with this temporary mode. You get the participation summoner icon for losing a game, then for every single other reward requires you to play the temporary mode at an exceptional level. And you've got to figure out how you're going to play at that level in 2 weeks.

or... just dont accept the challenge, maybe? so whats the problem again? you're upset you didnt get an icon because you think you're entitled to the icon?

and it's not that hard. quite easy if you ask me. but dont worry people are writing guides online or have already written guides that tell you exactly how to do it.

The problem is it's suppose to be a mode for the whole community, not the top X% of the community.

the mode is for the whole community theres no restrictions

again i ask, what is the problem?

I beat all but 1 mission with a premade of 2 silver 1 bronze and 1 leve 30 unranked. it's not hard people just are unsure how to do it now. like i said though ... "people are writing guides online or have already written guides that tell you exactly how to do it."

it being available for the whole community and it being designed for the whole community are two different things

I agree with you, and I will add that in ranked there are different rewards also just like this mode. Bronze rank rewards are just an icon while silver rank is an icon and border and gold rank is icon, border, and skin. Similar to how this mode has an icon for participating (aka bronze) and a ward skin for doing the solo missions (aka silver) and another icon for doing the mission with an S rank (aka gold)

But let me clarify, you're saying the rewards should be designed for anyone and everyone to get, contrary to most reward systems, right? or are you saying riot indeed did design it this way and failed because it's hard?

Dark Souls is fun because its frustrating

I want this meme to die

The dips and peaks in difficulty in the Souls series are meant to set up emotional and statisfying moments, like the sad Sif or Maiden Astrea fights, or the triumph overcoming Ornstein and Smough and being greeted by Gwynevere.

Mysticman892 votes

I like difficulty and don't find the difficulty itself excessive, so much as I can be a vel'koz bullet hell dodging master, but then if one or more of my teammates eats a shot then it shoot off potentially hitting me as well, and then people try to dodge the split bullets and get hit by another one and it snowballs.

Dark souls and friends are great since every death feels 'fair' in the sense that theres something I personally could have done to avoid it (and it's usually not long to get back there and retry). With onslaught, sometimes it's me, but sometimes it just feels unfair if teammates are monkeys, and then it's 15-20 minutes to get back to possible the same scenario.

Hellpyre1 votes

I wouldn't say Dark Souls is fun because it's frustrating. It's fun because you know that if something went wrong, it was on you. It's still the same with Onslaught for the most part, but being frustrated isn't the rewarding part. It's knowing that all you need to do is play better. The game won't change. (Slightly less applicable in a team game)

Xion The XIV1 votes

I don't like it because I am forced to play Champions I do not enjoy. Out of the entire list the only champion I even remotely like to play is Soraka and the Meme of machine gun lulu.

It should be a lot more difficult with a complete team of all 10 star guardians against it, this should have been a 10 vs AI game mode

Sohleks1 votes

There should probably be a difficulty between onslaught and the tutorial version. Make the first invasion mission slightly easier at the end.

Put the solo missions on the new medium mode.

Keep onslaught pretty hard (actually make it hard even earlier). Keep the premade missions on onslaught

I agree with you for the most part. But there are specific things about the game that are just stupidly strong. I think they could have made it just as challenging but kept a higher level of counter-play than there currently is. The giant golden Vel'Koz is the best example where his range goes all the way across the screen and it follows you. They could have made that easier to deal with but made some of the weaker monsters stronger. Like the regular Kha'zix seem really weak. The only issue with them is their stealth makes them hard to kill. I also think the giant cho'gath is dumb because he will 100-0 you and even though it's normally easy to stay away from him, if you get caught by one knockup while auto'ing him then you can get eaten and just have to sit there and watch as you slowly die. It would also be nice if there were a few more posts to hide behind from the boss at the end. I like the counterplay there, but you're incentivised to stay behind the pole while also being incentivised to go around killing the vel'kozs that are spawning around the map and there are huge areas with no poles where you can get caught totally with your pants down.
