Improving dodging and reaction time

My Sea Cow··3 votes·3,132 views

So figured some here may have some good pointers. Though I"m not the worst, reaction time is something I struggle with...whether it's dodging a spell (without using a spell to dodge it) or getting a super fast combo off (that's all skill shots).

Pointers? Suggestions?

If I remember there are some practice sites online that help you with that. google improving league reaction times. Something should pop up.

Move to Chicago, get ms advantage.

A lot of times, I'm not dodging as much as I am baiting a shot. Other times it's learning someone's handicap.

For a lot of Zed players, they tend to aim down the middle and directly at. So, being off to the left all the time or off to the right will help you dodge. Baiting a shot that you have to full intent of dodging helps, because you know where the cast will be. Knowing someone's handicap makes the dodge solid so you know where you positioning is for you to retaliate.

funny thing was I lived in NY when server was in California....moved to California (not for better servers)...then a week or two later Riot moved the servers to Chicago....I think they are trying to tell me something......... [zombie-nunu-tears]

Any ways...sometimes the dodging part is just me being out of position, but sometimes I just walk right into it...I'll have to see if I can find it but there was one game where I swear the person was scripting because I got hit every time by their skill shot...and I"m not THAT bad lol. I think if anything just improving reaction time when it comes to doing combos.. For an example, I'm definitely not fast with Gnar's Ult even if I try to do it quickly. I'll jump in to ult, then I find myself pausing before ulting...not intentional just I think my reaction time is bad lol

Well, if you're the one doing the shooting, then corner your enemy first. Like if an enemy has to get around an obstacle, aim at the exit point. You'll get better practice by using champions like Ezreal or Urgot.

When you play focus on improving your clicking there are also sites that test reaction time practice with those. Sometimes though its just a talent so its hard to improve on unless you really work at it. Try clicking closer to your champion and faster as well it helps dodging abilities. And alot of dodging abilities is foresight/prediction and for that you just need to play more games.

Two main things when dodging skill shots. Once you learn how to dodge skill shots, I can guarantee you'll notice your play will improve a LOT. Learning how to do this essential skill will help you perform so much better in lane that the results are surprising.

  1. Do your best to walk in a perpendicular path to the skill shot. So, let's say your lane opponent is Brand. He shoots his Q at you. Instead of walking away from the Q, do your best to side step it. The situations can vary, but in theory (and practice) this is the most effective dodging technique. As you get better, you'll do it naturally and won't have to pay it as much attention so you can also fit in some harass/cs as you dodge.

  2. Learn the skill shots of other champs and their cool downs. By getting a feel for a large variety of champs and knowing how they play, you'll also be able to better dodge whatever they have to throw at you because you know exactly what they're going to throw. Of course, you don't have to play every single champ. I still haven't played Brand, for example, but I can dodge his skill shots with relative ease. But that's because I've just played against lots of Brands.

If you can, get your friends to play Xerath against you. I know that once you play a couple games against a good Xerath, you'll be extremely frustrated at first but you'll get so adept at dodging skill shots that laning will become much easier for you. He is honestly the best champ to learn how to dodge skill shots against. It's either that or Vel, but I highly recommend Xerath instead. Or Brand. Or a mix of all three.

Good luck!

By the way, one of the things you'll notice when laning against a Xerath is something essential to dodging skill shots (which is why I recommend him as an opponent). First thing that's great about him is that you can visibly see and hear him charge up, so you can prepare to dodge whatever's coming. Standard tactic is to, at some point, start moving in a certain direction. At some point as you're moving, the Q indicator shows up. That's the second great thing about him. That brief instant/delay allows you to sidestep the Q by moving in the opposite direction that you were once walking (perpendicular to the skill shot of course).

This general method can be applied to virtually all skill shots. It's just easiest to say with Xerath imo.

a lot of that stuff honestly is innate skill and not something that is learned. reaction time especially. I mean obviously league isn't a linear game different things require different actions so you gotta learn how to dodge a specific spell rather than improving your time.

a lot of skills in this game you gotta bait your opponent into missing them. such as. brand W or chogath Q. if your standing on a chogath Q even if you Move immediately same time as cast. unless you have crazy movement speed you will be hit. a lot of players in league. good ones. move around in hard to predict patterns so they don't get themselves where they walk in the direction oft he spell before cast so it becomes impossible to dodge at a certain point. you just move in a pattern and hope your not in the middle of the spell on cast because then its nearly impossible to dodge and hope your on the edge and since you've been moving in a pattern you already have in your mind your going to change your direction so you can move out of the spells range without thinking where and how . you only need to think about where.

the best thing is to always move around in differnet patterns directions in lane and not make yourself predictable .

if your for example. being chased by a blitzcrank. if u have no mobility like an ekko E or ezreal E. then you simply start going in a zig zag or a swirl. and when you hear the sound of blitz hook you simply move in a 90 degree angle. when the blitz if focused on grabbing you at the point you were at. obviously blitz an idk guess and get lucky or something but its out of your hand at that point. if your too lose he will probably land it but the further you are the more time you have to dodge the spell

and always. assume the spell is closer to you than you see. your moving in zig zags. you hear blitz hooks. sound is more important than visuals here. you immediately take a sharp direction away

point is. don't move in straight lines. dont move in a predictable patterns and you should be fine. you can't dodge everything. but you get better at it.

make the enemy try to hit you with the spell instead of him making you dodging it. if you get what am saying.

this all probably sounds dumb i hope you understand something maybe i dont know what am talking about.

the hardest skillshots to dodge are thresh hooks (because of the bullshit animation where it gives no information where the hook is going) . xerath Q and brand W in my opinion. maybe ezreal Q in certain situations too. jayce hadouken thingy. morgana q (this one is annoying). and few others

Someone I know relies on Osu to improve reaction times. If their gameplay is any indication then it works really well.
