Support mains, what is your secondary role?

I want to be a support main next season, but can't decide what to queue as for a secondary role. Been playing normals to work on supporting and learn the ins and outs of the role and choosing fill as the secondary. I get support 98% of the time, but the 2% where I get something, unless it's a role that I previously mained (top or jungle) I generally don't do as good.

So my question for you, what is your secondary role?

Feed. I mean, it says "Mid" but don't let that fool you, I only get to play it 1 in 200 games, so I'll always be really rusty when it happens.

Secondary role? I can have one of those?? I usually just put "fill" and roll the dice. Though I've been putting more practice into other roles, I like ADC and FINALLY being able to do some damage, and can play mid decently. Top lane I usually just pick a tank and sit back in lane until the team fights, and my jungle is terrible.

I choose mid because I can be myself and no one can laugh at me missing all my cs cause i can't last hit anymore :^)

I always tell people Support and ADC go hand and Hand. If you main both roles, then you know exactly what the other role wants out of you.

The only problem is the transition between roles and CSing. It can be kind of hard, but if you practice at it, you'll be okay.

If you play mage supports then go mid, if you want to stay bot then go ADC since you know matchups, go jungle if you want to support team and dont think you can carry, and go top if you play tanky supports.

Mid. Mid has so many people trying for it, you'll never get it.

Even if you do you can just go brand, zyra, annie, morgana, etc. You could probably even get away with mid soraka or mid sona if your team doesn't need a carry mid.

DeathBurst10/25/2016, 4:57:09 PM1 votes

You can pick Mid, just because it's the more demanded role, so you'll get it less often. You can also play a lot of supportive champs Mid to a decent level, like Karma or Lulu or Morgana.

Alternatively, pick Top, pick a big fat Tank, try to survive in lane, and wait for team fights. Then, play just as you would play with a Tank support, you should be used to that.

In any case, as you said it yourself, it should happen less than 2% of the time, so there isn't really a "correct" choice that the community applies.

Jungle at the moment.

ADC. I guess I just like bot lane? Although, I could just say I'm a secondary support, in actuality. I just get stuck support a lot, lol.

Baby Ghoul10/26/2016, 3:55:40 AM1 votes

You'll rarely get your secondary pick as a support main unless Riot makes changes to supports or the queue system for 2017.

I've played almost 600 games and made it to gold playing only support. My secondary is always mid. I got mid like 5 times...

FourVsFive10/26/2016, 4:01:05 AM1 votes

top lane. Most my games top lanes feeds and makes the game really hard, so I just play top lane passively so i do not give them any kills, helping team out that way.

We have a secondary role? I mean still at the end of the season, I think I have had maybe 2 games where I picked "fill" and didn't get support.

Lol as if support mains get a secondary role.

Hex the FenFen10/26/2016, 9:04:02 AM1 votes

Mid is generally my secondary, since i mostly play mages when i play games it isnt too much different for me other than I can take kills and not feel guilty lol

DarkDeamonDragon10/26/2016, 1:13:41 PM1 votes

Usually I just fill because I know I'm getting support anyway. If I had to pick one other role it would probably be jungle. I am crap at CSing and since I'm bronze, jungle invades are not very common early game.

Beldair10/26/2016, 1:19:12 PM1 votes

I do one of 3 things:

Support/Top Support/Jungle Support/Fill

**I recommend learning ADC and Support in conjunction. They share a lot of similarities and knowing what an ADC Champion is capable of is critical to supporting. **

Edit: As an example, consider Miss Fortune's burst potential in the early laning phase, the Penetration meta combined with double up has made her absolutely terrifying. If you don't know this, you will lose the lane matchup.

AlienPrimate6/30/2017, 2:56:14 AM1 votes

I pick top. I'm not a support main, I'm a Taric main. I go top with Taric if I don't get support.

Mysticman896/30/2017, 2:59:04 AM1 votes

My secondary role is adc, which I'm usually willing to play in the rare occasion I get it. Suspect support/mid would be better if one just wanted to avoid getting the off role.

I'm pretty familiar with the dynamics of the duo lane, and knowing both sides of it is useful to know what I want my support to be doing/what I want my adc to be doing. Plus trying to get a read on my duo partner quickly is sortof one of my strengths, so I can know whether or not playing aggro or passive is the way to success.

Erockandroll6/30/2017, 3:28:38 AM1 votes

About the only Role that I avoid like the plague is ADC, and that's mainly because I'm discontent with playing glass cannons.

Jungle would probably be my next best. It's probably the next best role for warding and vision, and I don't always have to be the greedy one on the team.

qwerty196/30/2017, 3:41:01 AM1 votes

i have mid as secondary just cause i have a decent champ pool to choose from and there's ALWAYS someone queueing as a mid main. Off chance I get mid I just pick oriana and wombo combo

Zone of Endless6/30/2017, 4:00:34 AM1 votes

You don't get to play much other role when you're a support main.

ŁunaWindstar10/18/2019, 1:35:54 PM1 votes

Dodge. [sg-lulu]

Pika Fox10/18/2019, 1:43:06 PM1 votes

Adc, because usually the person that got support gets filled so you can just swap with them.

Aaand person above me necrod... But at least its still a relevant thread

Oleandervine10/18/2019, 1:53:12 PM1 votes

I moonlight as Sivir or Miss Fortune, and in rarer cases, Evelynn or Warwick.

gsai10/25/2016, 4:08:27 PM1 votes

Top lane because it's easier than support.

ModJikker10/18/2019, 2:13:10 PM1 votes

Please don't necro old threads as doing so violates the Board Universal Rules. I'm going to lock this one down.

I used to main mid so I still have lots of experience in mid and I picked up support about 2 months ago so it's around 60/40 with support to to mid games, I'll play top if I have to with some of my mids like ekko, liss, and I play teemo top too

I can also adc and it's pretty fun but I like mid and support a lot better, the one thing I can't do is jungle

GaleWinUnleashed10/25/2016, 4:14:30 PM1 votes

Why on earth would we need a secondary role? Nobody is fighting with us to play Support in the first place.

Personally, I really like enabling others to stay alive and get kills (it's why I'm a Support main, obviously), so if I'm not the support, my second choice is Jungle. You can play jungle in such a way as to fill approximately the same role as support; tip the balance in your teammates' favor. You just get the added bonus of surprise and flexibility, while losing the constant presence that the support has.

AgentBlack10/25/2016, 4:14:48 PM1 votes

When I really want support, I put bot as my secondary, because if you get it there's a decent chance the support will be willing to swap roles.

Gameplay wise, jungle is probably most like support. Both roles emphasize vision control, map presence, and generally some degree of utility, and neither have to CS.

Fill.
