Let's talk about the delay on Zed's ult and similar abilities
Now that this change has been live for quite some time I think I can give an informed opinion based on my experience with it.
I think I understand where the balance team were coming from , a fed zed ults the carry leaves another shadow behind switches back to safety and the lets the 2 shadows do the dirty work from complete safety. My problem is that if zed is fed enough to do that the enemy team lost the game long ago and that similar abilities such as
ult,
distortion have no such drawbacks
Meddler on the zed changes (5.9 patch) "If it works out well on Zed we'd consider adding it to Le Blanc and again, if appropriate, put power elsewhere instead. Would want to see how it affects Zed first before doing that assessment though."
As we all know this change was a nerf, it was also around the time where it seemed that zed fell out of favour in pro play and solo queue. I think it's safe to say that this nerf was overdone and unnecessary.
What the nerf actually did
1v1 For use in a 1v1 virtually no change simply use w instead to reposition during the 1 second to die any skill shots notepad of swapping back to ult shadow
Team fight In a team fight scenario in which zed has always had trouble with due to the nature of his kit the window provided by the .75 delay of arrival which allowed players to set up cc for his arrival and kill him without the 1 second wait he now is even more vulnerable however again by using we to reposition to wait out the second he plays basically the same except his job of assassinating the carry is more dangerous and he is less likely to get out alive
Escape
In an escape/ outplay situation
ult is no longer a useable mechanic due to the delay which is plenty of time for any skill shot or cc to hit him.
TL;DR slightly less outplay potential 1v1 Ult no longer works as an escape mechanic Ulting someone in a group is no longer a risky option but impossible
