Riot: Remove dodge wait time

BlizzardMOBAsoon·3/19/2015, 7:15:58 AM·13 votes·2,803 views

If someone doesn't want to be in a game, for whatever reason, particularly if someone is already being toxic in the pre-game lobby, they are pressured to stay regardless due to the punishment of leaving the lobby before the game starts.

With lengthy dodge timers you are essentially coercing people into staying until the game starts, despite there being some potentially toxic players in the pre-game lobby already.

Then what happens in the game? An utterly toxic experience that ruins everyone's game. GG Riot, you've made things worse. There shouldn't be a dodge queue timer, period.

imo it should be

0/5/10/15... minute dodge timers

Then every so often (every 4 hours without dodging?) reduce the timer by 1 stage?

Saianna3/19/2015, 7:45:15 AM6 votes

No.

BeatzBoyFTW3/19/2015, 8:32:45 AM5 votes

Removing the dodger penalty time will only create more purposes in dodging queues besides being queue'ed with a toxic person.

Eg.

Scenario 1

B: getting ready to call top A: top B: k, fk this, im outta here. dodged

Scenario 2

A: mid B: top A: Imma go Azir mid. B: Aww I want a LeBlanc mid, not Azir! Fk this, im outta here. "dodged*

Scenario 3

A joins queue

A: I love Justin Bieber. dodged

A joins next queue

A: Man such bronzies! Plz stick to your elo hell trololol. dodged

Continues on for more than 5 hours

I agree, remove dodge timers. The LP loss is already sufficient. If the team just isn't going to work well together, you shouldn't force them to.

I really wish team builder had taken off. It would have been a fantastic replacement for the current ranked system.

If you think trolling is bad now, just wait until after your proposal is implemented.

Trolls troll to get paid off, you see. Cheap dodges result in them getting paid off more often, so they do it more.

Pretty sure I've mentioned this before but without any repercussions for dodging, your queue will drastically increase far beyond what anyone would be willing to wait, because people will dodge every single time they don't get what they want, or the enemy has something they don't like.

There should definitely be better ways to deal with trolls who will ruin your game, but this is another problem, not a solution.

I vote for reduce, or at least have the penalty not escalate as quickly as it does (so it stays at 5 minutes for more games). I don't think it should be removed entirely though.

Unfortunately this would also invite everyone to just dodge a match if their champion of choice is banned or if they don't get the lane they want.

My proposal would be to get one free dodge per day and then have repercussions, though even at this point I am willing to sacrifice 3 LP and 10 minutes I can use to go get a snack or something instead of having a miserable game experience for 20-60 minutes.

Please. I'll easily pay the 5 minutes for someone being toxic in the pre-game lobby. It's the LP cost/failing series that keeps me in with toxic players, which is a different issue and only relevant in ranked.

Also if someone is toxic enough pre-game for me to dodge, I will make a note of their name and file a support ticket during those 5 minutes, so anyone that thinks they can troll the lobby to get out of a pick situation they don't like, think again.

'Lengthy' dodge timers only start if you dodge multiple games, which means you just want to be able to avoid playing with champions you don't like or in positions that you don't like. If everyone does this (as they would with no penalty) there will only be a handful of games starting as everyone except support mains dodges every game where they have to play support, everyone dodges every game with a Teemo on either team, etc., etc.

This requires that they stop restarting lobbies whenever anyone leaves and instead just replaces them. As it is presently if you remove the timeout it's going to be ridiculously annoying as people drop over and over making the other players requeue each time. Honestly this should be done regardless. The lobby reset is just poor design.

Eeeeh, five minutes isn't that long to wait, really, but if it was like 2 minutes and scaled up as you dodged more, that'd be fine too.

i hate this, league of legends client crashed and i got a dodge timer WOW.[zombie-brand-facepalm]

Why not just allow a vote to end the queue or kick somebody?

junglerboy163/19/2015, 1:20:47 PM1 votes

Reduce, maybe. Remove? Heck no. Dodge penalties are the only thing that keeps queueing up from taking 20 minutes every time. It is already bad enough when somebody dodges in 5+ matches in a row, but having no penalty would make it all about getting their role of choice or champion of choice, at which point they should just play team builder. If there is someone toxic in your match queue, then dodge once and you should avoid them, and that one dodge shouldn't delay you too badly. Another reason that dodging has a time penalty is so that you are less likely to queue with the same people that you dodged from, so that would probably not work quite as well either.

Reducing dodge penalty could be ok, but it still has to be long enough of a penalty that you and your teammates don't take it for granted that you can just get out when you don't have a perfect match.

You also have to think about it from the other side of things; Dodge penalties definitely pressure some people to stay in matches when they should dodge, but they also keep people from wasting everyone else's time.

WeFlyNoLie3/19/2015, 1:36:36 PM1 votes

So then what do you propose we do about people that just decide to keep dodging because they don't get the role they want? Just let them keep entering games and dodging with no timer penalty until they get what they want?

I understand your frustration, but you need to understand why that timer was put there in the first place. To deter people from consistently dodging and re-queuing for games. We would need something to replace it.

Back in the day Dominion draft queue had a nice amount of players. Then a bug appeared where if you left a draft queue you'd get no penalty, Riot fixed it in other modes quickly (if I remember right) but it took about 6 months to fix it in Dominion, people were leaving games non stop when a champion they wanted was banned. Now go queue for Dom draft to see the result.

The Fat Punisher3/19/2015, 2:57:08 PM1 votes

With no penalty have fun never getting to play. people will dodge over roles, over champs, over lanes, toxicity.

you will literally never get to play a game.

Angry Monster3/19/2015, 8:38:05 AM1 votes

lack of punishment existed in season 2. Riot had to move to the current system cause of troll behavior.
