Riot says: "Just mute everyone, or we ban you." Seems legit.

Riot suggests, time and time again, that the solution to toxicity is to either 1) Deal with it and report it after; in other words suffer in silence my good friends, or 2) Mute everyone from the start. Well, in that case, what is the point of chat?

Ironically, the people who stand there & watch people die, troll bait, feed continually, and never follow up or communicate are never held accountable, and if we ask them "why did you just do that?" we will be reported, seems legit.

99% of the things I've seen punished in this game would not even elicit so much as a warning in any other game I have played, it is absurd. Even the people who try to make things better are inevitably punished for being "social justice warriors." So now we have 1) Good people being punished, 2) People being banned for trivial arguments that don't even contain vulgarity or name calling, 3) People banned for sarcasm, and 4) People not banned for watching everyone die & feeding continually by "accident." People who are actually ruining the game, the ones who refuse to ping or chat whatsoever, the ones who feed and don't follow up on ganks, are the ones Riot doesn't ban, instead the ones who tell those people to group up and get with it are the ones who get banned? I've seen so many of my friends get punished, none of them use vulgarity, none of them have ever been punished on any other game. Who exactly is making these ban decisions? Ironically, those same people don't read their supervisor's memos, as we've seen previously when people were un-banned and yet customer support "behavior specialists" said "the ban was justified," when their supervisor said the opposite, gg.

I honestly believe that over half of the playerbase at this point is negative. I'm not even talking about people who complain too often/easily or who play poorly and get upset from losing. I'm talking about the hardcore, "my mistakes are your fault," cussing every seven seconds, intentionally feeding, stop caring about the game over a teammate making a single mistake, "if you don't follow the meta, you're a terrible person"-type of people. It isn't outliers, it's a huge portion of the community. And no matter what you do, it's a lose-lose. If you just ignore them (mute and report), they do it again and again until action is finally taken (if that ever even happens). If you fight back, suddenly, you're toxic too. Between the awful community and Riot not caring about any map but Summoner's Rift, and balancing the game around professionals, there's an increasing incentive to stop playing this game.

I hate those backseat driver types in games. "Why did you do x?" "Why didn't you build y?" You know what you're doing, and it's bitching and moaning about your teammates in a thinly veiled 'constructive' question. Its negative. If you actually want to have positive communication, you talk about the future: "Let's do x next time" "You should build y because he's getting big" But you don't. You want to complain about your 'feeding trolling' teammates without getting punished.

Stop trolling. If people are toxic and they get reported, they get banned. If you join in the toxicity and you get reported, you'll get banned. Simple solution, don't join in the toxicity. Many toxic people are just trolls that try to pull other people in so they can report them and get them banned. Don't join in and you won't get banned. Problem solved.

Eh, Mute All isn't really a bad general idea. Most of my matches seem to be full of mouthy kids that do nothing but trash talk and go out of their way to provoke and aggravate people. The world would be better of if they never opened their mouths, so why not mute'em.

DOES NO ONE SAY THIS TO KIDS ANYMORE!? Literally anytime i ever complained about someone mouthing off to me or saying things I didn't like as a kid, that was the adult response.

Stop blaming Riot for the players. It's like blaming Baron for Acing your team when you tried to rush it with all the enemy team up.

Here they have a section below where Riot mentions quote "Cumulatively, only 2% of games globally include excessive harassment, racist, homophobic,or sexist language. "

They also go on to say 40% of punished players reform in the new system.

The game is far from as toxic as people think, and a lot of it lately is coming down to a perspective. Not everyone is toxic because they say something negative to you, not everyone is feeding if they are playing a poor game, not everyone tries to DC.

Whens the last time you saw an actual toxic player? One who was downright awful, insulting everyone in the game, rushing alone into the base, swearing up a storm etc? You probably don't see players like that.

Tldr: Leagues community is viewed as toxic because the bar of what "toxic" is has gotten way lower, and most of it is based on people thinking its more toxic then it really is. The League community is fine.

If someone throws the game on purpose, there's a legitimate reason to report them. If they're saying stuff like "It was an accident" or "I'm having a bad game", GIVE THEM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. Not all players are good and that's not something to report them for.

As far as the "mute everyone at the start of the game" argument, Riot encourages you to use the mute function when a compromise can't be reached with someone. The only thing worse than having someone on your team rage in chat and abuse people is when two people go back and forth with it. So if you can't stop yourself from arguing with someone and making the game less fun for the other three people on your team, mute them. THAT is Riot's standpoint.

And finally, if you or your friends have a problem with how Riot handles reports and feel you've been unjustly reported, bring it up with Riot. They'll usually show you exactly which chat logs they used when deciding whether to give a warning or ban. Don't complain on the forums about how unjust Riot is unless you've already tried official channels.

Edit: Lovely rain of downvotes for everyone here, it does seem we either have fanboys or bots and neither seems inclined to post. Interesting how everyone who disagrees with you gets an immediate -2 or -3 and everyone who agrees gets an immediate +2 or +3 despite how your thread as a whole is getting downvotes... Anyone other than the OP going to reply?

My game last night, people started raging because I was having a horrible game. I muted my entire team.

My lane opponent started talking shit. I muted the entire enemy team.

We won.

I have a large number of real life friends that play League (20-ish?), and to the best of my knowledge none of them have ever gotten a ban or chat restriction or anything. To the best of knowledge, none of them mutes their team, and I think most of them play with All-Chat on.

Maybe it's just me, but the people who get the bans/restrictions have this perception that they're always getting reported out of the blue, even in games where they mute from the start. I'm pretty sure by the way that chat goes in games where I've had to report people that you get a pop-up notice when you are reported, but I can't think of a time where I've gotten said notice. This honestly makes me wonder if there's something with the matchmaking that queues people who got a ban/restriction are more likely to be matched with people who are a bit report happy.

Obviously, without chat logs I can only take your word for it, but it's still an interesting trend.

I totally know that's necroposting but i want to say it to everyone. Ok, the first account i got ban i actually said sometime "noob", but no more. Then is all stfu or look for yourself, and i said "STFU" to people who actually blame you instead theyrself for theyr mistake, people that actually should be banned from all online game since theyr fault is never theyr but its your. Everytime i sent a ticket to riot, in every language with the help of a translate, and the answer was the same, a "pre" answer with "If you've a bad day just stop to play, and dont blame other b'cause bad words can lower the moral and make you lose we wont unban you peace (Y)". I'm sick, i'm bored and tons of bad stuff about riot new system, i never got banned, there's no way that sarcasm or tell to shut the fuck up to people that are countinuely flaming, calling me fucking jew or get cancer would continue play, and funniest of all, if you tell that they said "get cancer" on all chat its like you said it SO you'll get extra-punishment. GG RIOT G FUCKING G. So sad the fact i spent 2k eur for see my account permaban for a simple STFU which in everyelse game you wont even be warned for something that stupid.
