ARAM was fun for while it lasted
As someone who played ARAM a lot since it was in custom games and played it more when it came out as an official game mode, I got more and more bored of ARAM because of the constant poke meta and the longer the more people had accounts with only these OP champs. Every game consisted of 4-5 poke champs per team making it impossible to win if you had 1 or 0. It also made the first 20 minutes a hell for most melee champions, even if you had 4 teammates with poke, you were basically playing dodgeball.
But then something awesome happened: Legend of the Poro King. This funmode was actually a much more healthy and balanced version of ARAM. A lot of unnecessary gimmicks were added, but so was a gamechanging summoner spell: Poro Toss. This suddenly made 3/4 of the champion pool that sucked suddenly not that sucky anymore.
After Poro King retired, so did my will to play the (what I now learnt to be a boring version of what could've been). But Riot surprised me more than I could wish for: They added Poro Toss (under the form of a snowball) permanently! Atleast, that's what I thought. While a vast majority of the people loved Mark/Dash, a small group of people that only liked ARAM for the few champs that were played kept complaining about this revolution. And Riot, the fools, listened.
Mark/Dash currently does less damage on the first proc, which is something I think was a good change. The spell was just so OP because of the constant harrass that even ranged champions (who didn't want to Dash ever, or atleast rarely) picked it 100% of the time. Ranged champs can now return to heal while melee champs can throw snowballs and dash towards you. This was a healthy nerf that didn't destroy what porotoss was meant to do (helping the melees in a melee-unfriendly environment).
But now two more changes hit the PBE...
> Mark/Dash > > Range is now 1600 (down from 2500) > Cooldown is now 40 seconds (up from 20)
The range nerf is fine IMO. Melees don't need a 2500 range engage. They just need an engage that has enough range to not enter the poke zone first.
But why, in god's name, double the cooldown, Riot? What you wanted to do was have it available often enough but not too often that you would cast it as soon as it was from CD (like people did at release). But lowering the damage already did this job. By reducing the benefit of constantly casting, people already hold on to their snowballs more often. Making it a 40 CD will further reduce it's effectiveness. You will less likely be able to jump in with 2 or 3 people on their team because your teammates not only need to land the snowball, they also need to have it off cooldown.
Long ranged casters never fell from the top of ARAM. Even with Mark/Dash release, they still had the highest winrate. Nerfing the spell to make it so that not everyone would use it makes sense, but it has to remain powerful for melee champs to stay relevant in this game mode. Riot is bringing Mark/dash in line with the other summoner spells, but Melee champs (more specifically: those without a strong gapcloser) NEED something that brings them more power.
I'd rather have the damage completely removed than double the cooldown. The only thing that matters for those who are in need is the amount of times they can use it and the reliability to land. Don't make melee champs sitting ducks for 40+ seconds when they miss a snowball. There are already few good opportunities to Dash in on them. Giving us even fewer opportunities will only make ranged casters dominate harder once again.
