Hey guys, I'm a tank .
Yep.
Yep.
Quick, is Renekton a tank?
Your answer will determine how much people should actually care about this thread.
Nope. He is a bruiser. 2 different things.
I'm never entirely sure of the difference.
A bruiser is someone who grabs a damage item or two so that they can do some damage. The rest of their items are defense. A tank is pure defense with about a one item exception.
Think of it like this:
Braum builds a lot of defense so that his Unbreakable is truly unbreakable and his Stand Behind me grants his ally as much defense as possible. His defense is there to defend others.
Renekton builds a lot of defense so he doesn't get nuked immediately upon showing up in a team fight for being a squishy melee champ. His defense is to defend himself.

Renekton is a bruiser/ fighter who people like to build full tank, but should actually be built with 1-2 completed damage items.
Ding ding ding, another winner.
Bonus question: What difference does it make, in the context of this thread, that Renekton is not a tank, but a bruiser?
Because people who see Renekton as a tank, when he's actually a bruiser, then see all other bruisers (which are defined as having moderate damage and moderate survivability, instead of either extreme) as tanks as well. Whereas true tanks,
for example, have low damage, high survivability, and CC of some kind to entirely benefit their teammates and rely almost entirely on them to be worth anything. Whereas bruisers can generally go in on their own or split push without a team and be relatively ok; true tanks cannot.
So in the context of this thread, the difference between true tanks and bruisers in the thread is bruisers can still be effective through split pushing for example whereas true tanks can't do their job if they die in 5 seconds usually. Tanks are there to soak up damage through the entire fight and make sure as many people get out alive as possible through the high CC or other utility they have. If tanks die in 5 seconds to the enemy adc, they can't do that and are therefore rendered useless largely.
TL;DR Bruisers can still be effective regardless of the kill time of the adc (split pushing); whereas tanks are rendered useless if they can't stay alive to use their utility through out fights if they die at the start.

I find the distinction a bit forced, though. For example, you call Renekton a bruiser and Shen a tank, yet they both have only 1 CC ability, and Renekton gains WAY more bonus health from his ult than Shen does from his shield. Also, you say that Bruisers are the ones who split push, yet one of Shen's main strengths is his split pushing.
I think the general difference between Tanks and Bruisers is that a Tank is a champ who has strong tools to engage a fight, and has natural tanky parts of their kit - bonus resists/ shields/ health/ dmg reduction. They often have built in sustain, and % damage built in their kits to allow them to have high enough base damage to be relevant. A bruiser is simply a champ that benefits from building a mixture of damage and tank items; bruiser champs range from an AD melee champ like Garen, to an AP mage like Swain who generally builds tanky (RoA/ Hourglass/ Liandry's/ Spirit Visage).

Here's how I found the best way to define the two classes.
Fighter - Single target damage. Best used in 1v1 fights. Tends to prefer AD due to the nature of auto attacks being a large source of their damage. Akali, Fizz, Shaco, Lee Sin, Master Yi, Renekton, Vi, Mundo, J4, Trundle, Fiora, Nocturne.
Tanks - AoE damage. Best used in group fights. Tends to prefer AP due to being ability based. Cho'Gath, Sejuani, Rammus, Malphite (Only because of the AoE on Brutal Strikes), Amumu, Zac, Singed.
Give me a champion and I will tell you Fighter or Tank and WHY.

Haha. I lolking'd the guy and he's a Renekton main. Renekton can't engage without flash + Slice & Dice, and even then it's just a single target stun. Renekton is an off tank and a dive buddy, not a primary engage champ.
full build ali can survive against 3 adcs (that don't have lifesteal for some reason) for 6 seconds while ulting. and not get to damage a single one of them because he's melee.

thornmail is about all you can buy on him. thornmail+ frozen heart and sherlias item. thats really a core build now a days on him anyway. I mean MR would be nice but if you're dieing to an APC as alistar when your ults up you're probably just positioning badly
You actually made a meme about it... This is why some don't take the "Plight of Tanks" seriously -.- ...

Stop calling this shit "memes". These are image macros. Why oh why Reddit thought those were le epik maymays I will never know
Uh... do you not know what a meme is?
Meme, derived from the greek "Enthymeme," refers to a shared social idea.
That image is an image macro, which may grow into a meme.
Not only is the "meme," as you call it, using an existing meme's image macro, but it is just one example of an image macro that comprises the meme.
Doge = Meme Much Shibe, Very Woof, Wow = Words on an Image Macro Jonah Hill Complaining = Meme OP = Image Macro
By your definition the vast majority of Doge "memes" would simply be image macros borrowing the Doge image. That would make sense, since the "fuck me right" meme is most definitely a meme.
Personally it sounds like you're being overly specific in an attempt to call the OP's picture something other than a meme, but I could be mistaken. I have no idea how long a term has to go by a different definition before the definition changes.
My definition is saying exactly that: Doge "memes" are just image macros. People use the word wrong all the time. Doesn't mean the definition has changed.
No dictionary has yet changed its definition (that I know of), so it's still proper to use the scientific definition.
People using a word wrong is the driving force behind the evolution of language. It's nice to stick with "exact" definitions, but sometimes you have to adapt early in order to keep your sanity.
Thank you for the clarification though.
No worries.
I agree with the evolution of language bit, but I've run into many problems with accurate phrasing and definitions, since I work a lot with people in other countries.
It becomes a bit of a necessity to define things correctly, or at the very least, establish a standard definition for the purpose of the conversation when not everyone has the same cultural background.
"Irony" and it's various forms also fall under this category. Ironically. XD (Ok, I'm just being facetious)
An Internet meme may take the form of an image. That is the very definition of how you would share said social idea.
Language may take the form of a word, but a word does not represent all of language.
A meme may take the form of an image, but an image is not the entire meme.
One does not make a meme without social consent. One makes an image macro using a meme.
Who on earth came up with the term "image macro" anyway? How is that supposed to be a macro?
Who on earth came up with the term "image macro" anyway? How is that supposed to be a macro?
It came from forum macros, or "emoticons". Like typing " :) " would produce a smiley. Just like user-defined macros for gaming mice(like pressing 1 button would result in a 5-key string). Generally, macros take smaller inputs and produce larger outputs, according to a specified pattern. Image macros use images as the input string and convey more with less words(that message would be the "output string"). Familiar images are capable of framing their captions into a certain context. Memes are the ideas behind those macros, but a single instance of an image macro using a meme isn't a meme in itself.
So it's an abstract macro...
mmh...
That feels somewhat forced, but I'll accept it begrudgingly.
But then how will our ADC overlords make big plays?
$>players? Yes. XD
hey guys, i'm an adc. I want to survive for more than one second against anyone. But that's not how it works so tough s***

Well you should expect to die near instantly if you are caught out. Thats how it works. With great power comes great responcibility. Meanwhile, the guys who aren't supposed to be dying instantly are dying... instantly. Also, by the way, I have been complaining about this for a while now, even before the new forums, and just now are people getting to it. :/
this may have sounded a little mean but it was intended as a joke...
It's not mean... it's just dumb.
You have a tank who's meant to block for you. Guess what happens when you get caught out? You die.
Guess what shouldn't happen INSTANTLY to a tank who gets caught out? They shouldn't die without a chance to escape... that's the benefit we're supposed to get in exchange for dealing next to zero damage.

Tanks do respectable damage. It's just that almost none of it is single target. [The only one that really comes to mind is Cho'Gath's True Damage execute.]
Might as well just play tryn then and get 5 seconds of guaranteed survivability
While not scratching anyone even once because melee
Between Chicken Call and Spin For Victory (not actual spell names), he has a pretty decent chance.
Cancer?
:Hello. You called?
Stop trying to get another circle jerk thread going on.
Stop calling yourself a bagel. That word is reserved for the heavenly round god - food produced in Brooklyn.
Thanks but I'll call myself however the fuck I want. Also, Montreal-Style Bagel is a thing, genius. Google it, BRO
.>Bagels worth talking about .>Bagels made outside of New York .>pick one
^This guy gets it.
In New York City, there are two Montreal-style bagel locations in Brooklyn within four blocks of each other:
Montreal-style bagels are made fresh in a traditional wood-fired brick oven in New York's historic Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, at B&B Empire Cafe (200 Clinton Street, Brooklyn NY).
Montreal-style bagels can be purchased at a deli called Mile End, in the Boerum Hill section of Brooklyn, which was opened and is run by a Montreal native.
Montreal-style bagels have traveled to the West Coast. The Eltana Café, in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, makes the wood-fired, hand-rolled, honey water boiled bagels. Its lead baker interned at St. Viateur’s to learn from the master creators.
Tanks are ment to survive burst damage, not sustained damage-which is what ADC's are designed to do.
Tanks aren't ment to survive burst damage
sadly, thats kinda how it seems to me lately...
because 3-4 AA's = sustained. XD
So...what are they meant to survive? Jungle monsters?
