I hate it when people say "Chill it's Norms, lol"

DrProfVibeCheck··120 votes·8,697 views

I understand that Normals are supposed to be chill, but please don't use these words to throw intentionally or troll.

Look, I'm a guy who likes to casually play games. I want to relax when I'm in League. But, I know how to play the game. I know what to do and when to do it. Just because LP isn't on the line doesn't mean you can ruin the game for everyone.

Edit: I know there are people out there that take Norms way too seriously. Those that treat it like ranked. What Im talking about is the opposite end of that spectrum. The ones who simply dont give any fucks and intentionally throw.

You know when I tell people to relax cause it is norms? When they are being dicks and harassing people for not doing well / not playing exactly how they want them to.

I do not intentionally throw games or troll, but people come to think that is the case if you EVER have a bad game(heck, it doesn't always have to be a bad game!) So to people who are mean spirited for no real reason? "Chill, it's norms, lol."

Knoyle3 votes

This right here. I'm not out to throw the game. I'm in it to win it like you, but I'm not going to bite your head off for making a mistake. Now if you are intentionally feeding/ refusing to cooperate that is something else entirely. But what's the point if we aren't having fun wrecking the enemy team? I have actually had matches where we are up by 10 kills and 3 towers and some guy wants to ff because they can't solo kill their lane opponent or the support isn't doing a top notch job. It's one thing to keep your competitive edge while playing but don't get bent out of shape over a small problem like "My support isn't building the way I want to omg."

DrProfVibeCheck13 votes

I understand that. What I'm talking about is when a guy intentionally loses a game to "have fun" even when no one else is. Then, to defend himself, he says "Dude chill. This isnt ranked. Its Norms".

This kind if guy thinks to himself before queueing up: "Hey, you know what would be fun? Autolocking Shaco Support and intentionally give the enemy team kills! ITS NORMS WHO CARES AMIRITE :D"

Well I care.

I strongly dislike both types of people. The ones I mention as well as the ones you do.

Lazypeon1002 votes

If they intend to feed, then ya, screw those people. Only point I'd like to mention is, I'm totally okay with off meta picks in normals. And unless it's something super crazy (raka jungle as an example), I'll prolly be okay with it in ranked too.

Also, people who auto lock are lame. X_X.

Had an AP Bruiser Soraka Top player in Ranked who acted like it was completely normal and it was season 4 Soraka all over again or something. We actually won really hard.

Lazypeon1001 votes

What does an ap brusier raka build exactly o.o? The damage had to have been low, and if they built health hope they also got a warmogs to go with it.

A Miss Fortune1 votes

AP Bruiser Soraka actually isn't necessarily that bad. She's primarily a support class like Nunu so she's strong even if she's not doing a lot of damage and single handedly carrying. The damage in-lane on top of her sustain and decent range is pretty strong but she relies mainly on just being able to heal up her team and become nearly immortal with her built-in sustain and tankiness.

item 3152 item 3065 item 3083 item 3174 item 3102 item 3117

Not in order. Pretty much the idea is to have a lot of sustain and full CDR so that she can spam heals on her teammates without getting too low and if she does get focused she's difficult to kill and she isn't the main damage dealer anyways so therefore she wants you to focus her.

Lazypeon1001 votes

I guess so. I just can't imagine it going over well. Though I used to do mid / top raka before she was changed, so I guess I'm even worse >_>.

How would she fair against a hyper agressive or anyone with sustain top laner? She won't have the damage tk trade against other sustain champs, and anyone who is hyper agressive (especially if they have high mobility like Riven) should in theory crush her.

A Miss Fortune1 votes

She's strong against early game top laners who need to snowball to do well because of her range and being difficult to kill in most situations. Her silence makes her a really strong counter to champions like Riven who are short ranged and require abilities to do anything.

About 5 months ago, me and my friends decided we were gonna play one last match for the night. Me and my friend were having fun going shaco Kassadin bot lane and we ended up with a drunk soraka jungle. When I say drunk I mean absolutely wasted. And I can say with utmost assuredly that this soraka jungle was one of the funniest things I've ever encountered in League. One of us got low Weeewoooweeewooo Soraka comes sprinting at us from jungle and suddenly we are both full health, enemy was taking dragon suddenly soraka flashes from the river bush silences the enmy jungle and smites scuttles instead xD

Given it would've been less fun if we hadn't already gone into the match just wanting some fun with our super blink bot lane so I'm sure it felt a lot funnier than it would've been if we weren't half asleep and expecting a goofy game already with our bot lane

Lazypeon1001 votes

That's pretty funny. I remember before her rework, I actually did play raka jungle a couple times just dor kicks in normals. The plan was simple, rush the spirit stone or whatever the jungle item was called back then, but don't finish it. Instead, rush right into a rylai's with mobil boots.

It normally didn't work, but when it did it was amazing. Rush in, silence them and aplly the slow followed by starcall of doom.

Thumpin3 votes

Conversely, people tend to get way too defensive when someone is critical of their play.

For example; today my top laner used TP to get to a minion wave faster. By the time TP was complete there were only 3 minions left to kill, also it was after 20 minutes, so homeguards were active, and on top of that, he used TP to get from just behind our inhibitor to the minions at our fallen inner turret.

I said "Don't waste TP like that". The response? "Shut up and let him play how he wants."

Honestly, if it was a normal I wouldn't even care. People can make dumb mistakes, and they will learn from it.

If it was ranked, I'd probably still likely keep quiet, as I don't want to cause a fight (which is a big reason people lose I think). Depends on if I think saying something will help them or not, I try to judge by their in game attitude. If it will help, then ya, I'd say something. I'm assuming that was someone else telling you to shut up O.O? I'd quickly explain that I meant no offense or anything like that, and if they are still angry just mute them. People who are overly defensive aren't fun to play with either. I do understand the mentality a bit though, because not everyone wants the unsolicited help, no matter what your intentions were :/.

Thumpin3 votes

Yeah, should have clarified. That was the support's response to that comment. What gets to me is people dismissing non-aggressive, honest advice because "they don't need to be told how to play". Dammit, I want to win this and so do you, so if there's advice to give let's help each other out.

And yes, it was ranked.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

Even then it's no reason to say "cause it's norms". Is telling them to just chill not enough?

Lazypeon1001 votes

In most cases that I've experienced, not really. People seem to forget that the game is played for fun, and that normals are more focused towards the fun, rather than the try hard experience. You SHOULD try hard, but if you lose a normal there's no real loss.

People feel more justified about being angry in ranked because they can potential lose rating if someone is having a really bad game. I'm not saying I agree with them, but making it clear that it is just a normal can sometimes help calm people down.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

Actually saying "it's just a normal" makes people think you're not trying at all and makes the situation worse.

Lazypeon1001 votes

That can happenx ya. But that hasn't been my experience. And when I get people like that, it is clear they are unreasonable anyway so I end up just muting or ignoring them.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

You should just do that always then instead of telling them it's just norms.

Lazypeon1001 votes

There are plenty of times though when I DO ask someone to chill, they do in fact chill. I've had many experiences where someone was mad in the moment, was able to calm down after someone mentioned something or was given a few moments, and became perfectly normal and maybe even fun to chat with. I don't like muting people if I can avoid it for that very reason. Plus, it can vastly hinder important possible in game communication.

Shuriman Curator14 votes

I encountered this yesterday. Played a game as Nasus top and the enemy Morgana was supporting and I guess their ADC wasn't very good. So she started to roam, still mad she revealed her allies location, and fed our team kills. She said it was normals and didn't care and WANTED her team to lose...

At the end of the game our team and the enemies reported her.

I don't play ranked, but I always have the mentality to win, stay positive and encourage others to do well, if I encounter a team mate who is new to a champ, I try to give advice(assuming I know something about the champ)

Give ranked a try. Even if you're not being hyper competitive and stay in bronze or silver it's still a preferable experience as people are way less likely to feed/flame.

I never get flamed as a "bad jungler who never ganks" in normals. In Ranked? Maybe one in 20 games that happens.

And then you miss the people who use chat to help their team.

Like, "Lux, you want blue?" or "Morg doesn't have flash and doesn't play very safe, super gankable" or "Mid MIA".

Sure, you could say "Just ping" but how do they know you muted them at the start? And not everything can be told with pings.

regardless, you shouldn't really care if people are being mean to you in a video game. who cares.

"Relax, it's a normal." - Playing Karthus jungle but trying my best to make it effective: A-O.K.

"Relax, it's a normal." - Playing LeeSin jungle but intentionally trolling, feeding or AFKing: Not O.K.

DeathBurst4 votes

On the other hand, if I honestly want to try an off-meta pick/build, I can't do it except in Normal. I may lose. But it's not trolling. And you saying me my build is bad and what I should build instead is not exactly relevant. ;)

Sure, some people are d*ck, but my point is, don't be so fast to assume people are trolling.

DrProfVibeCheck2 votes

There are trolls and there are off-meta picks.

I know off meta-picks when I see them. I ,too, dabble in the art of Vi Support and Talon Jungle. I have respect for people who do off meta (shout out to SolWolf!). Its hard formulating new strats and such.

I also know trolls when I see them. I know when a person is either having a bad game versus INTENTIONALLY feeding. Trust me, I know the feels when people think you're trolling when you actually just suck at life right now.

Mhmmn.... I had a game recently with nasus support; my ADC trist flamed me in select chat and harassed me about choosing blitzcrank. Her first item was a PD, followed by a shiv, followed by selling PD and shiv for BT and IE.... 50 minute game and she never bought boots. Ever. And wondered why she couldnt outrun the enemies fed WW jungle.

Question: how would nasus support work? Sure, you can relic to get stacks, but that severely slows down the total stackage. Is it because of the W and E?

Question: how would nasus support work? Sure, you can relic to get stacks, but that severely slows down the total stackage. Is it because of the W and E?

Yeah. against squishies, his E is actually ridiculously good poke. You start coin, build it into eye of the oasis (gets replaced later on by the tank eye item once the mana regen becomes less useful), and focus on harassing and zoning using spirit fire. Raylais is a great item on support nasus because of its synergy with spirit fire, which has both a DoT and initial damage. You dont bother with stacking your Q at all, your main role is tank with AP damage and armor shred.

What a lot of people dont realize is nasus's E actually has -40 armor on it. you can get rid of basically all of someone base armor for your ADC, and at early levels, it can win trades easily. Your W, wither, is also one of the only attack speed slows in the game. It makes fighting back against, say, a 15 minute sated rageblade warwick possible because its a 45% attack speed slow at max rank.

Support nasus works best with bursty ADCs/APCs who dont need sustained slows to do the brunt of their damage. Tristana, graves, and jinx are all good champs to pair with nasus.

I don't have an issue with this, but please practice against the AI first. I've seen great Fizz and Blanc jungles. AD jungle Malz is totally a thing.

I hate (dislike?) people who role in to norms and say, "first time teemo," and the proceed to jungle with him. In norms, I've come to accept 20 mins, but it's still a waste of time.

PoeticDreams3 votes

I think OP doesn't mind if you choose to do an off-meta pick or an unconventional jungler. The OP just wants your objective to be, ultimately, to win using that setup. I can understand that because that's exactly how I feel. I don't play ranked, to me it is a waste of time and too stressful for what a game should be, plus you often don't get to play the champion and the roles you want. The opposite of teambuilder. Doesn't mean I want people to troll and throw. I get it, there's no stakes at hand, but that's no excuse. If you want to fool around, go play COOP, that's EXACTLY the mode for that.

MasterVidallis3 votes

Consistently people that say aren't taking the match seriously, wasting everyone's time who are trying to win, and use that dumbass response to justify the fact they're wasting everyone's time.

It's a competitive team game if you don't want to try and win go play a single player game. [slayer-jinx-wink]

SelflessTeammate2 votes

I think it's really this simple: There is no true "casual" or "pub" mode in League. None. There absolutely should be, but there just isn't. That, and Ranked can be very unpleasant at times, and frankly the Draft Pick style of things (soon to be replaced) just doesn't work in practice for solo queue.

Excluding other PvP modes, when it comes to Rift, there's either Ranked, where toxicity can be out of control and many of us don't really enjoy for lots of valid reasons, or a not-really-different Casuals (I hate saying Normals, that term makes no sense, as if Ranked is somehow not Normal or special in some way). There is no truly casual mode, which I would identify as one in which there is total freedom to drop in or out at any time. Without that specific factor, it's not really a casual, because there are obligations.

But the attitudes about that are different with people. Some are die-hard players in Casuals, where they will rank 5 a champ and go against any newbie and treat it like they would any Ranked. The problem with that is obvious.

Others go into Casuals and just don't try. At all. Or if they do try, they're quick to quit, and not really there to improve, anyway. In extreme cases, you'll get people who act like the rules have changed, and will literally refuse to fight and spend most of the game talking and actually tell you not to fight because they're busy with something else.

Those people are very rare, but they happen, and tend to be high-ranked people who believe they're somehow above others in a meaningful way that excludes them from basic manners. I've reported them for Assisting Enemy Team just the same, because feeding is feeding, and going afk is going afk. Your rank doesn't make you special, believe it or not. I don't care if you're Diamond, I don't care what mode we're in, you have to at least try to look like you're putting effort into helping your team, and not overtly dismissing the rest of the team.

I've played some dumb stuff in norms (AKA Jg zed 5 times and jg kat 2 times) but i will not try to throw and i WILL try. I've play Leona top as AP and i got FED and we did lose that, but thats not because of me. Would you call what i'm doing "trolling" or "having fun"?

Just Blame Jenny2 votes

Summing up: going off meta but trying is fine. Intentionally dropping the ball, not so fine.

I tend to keep to meta even in normal, but I've done some unconventional things. Supp Akali Elise GnarPoppy , Jg Leona, Mid Quinn* Sona , and so forth. I don't blame anyone else for doing similarly, so long as you're legitimately trying to win with your off-meta champ, and have at least some strategy in mind when trying it.

A lot of drama-queens like to throw around the words 'harass' and 'toxic' as buzzwords as it relates to player-relations throughout matches. If one of my teammates is performing poorly then you can be sure I'll call them out on it. Not in a overly-impolite way (at least at first lmao), but I'll tell them. It's made a lot of people on my team mad but it's also helped me win a fair number of games that I shouldn't have. Games that aren't decided in the first ten minutes usually amount to who-slips-up-first, and when that liable teammate stops making the mistakes that put your team at a disadvantage it changes the course of a match a fair bit.

"Chill it's Norms" is some of the most redundant noobie garbage I've ever heard. I bet you anything that the people saying this go into queues with an expectation to at least be on par with the enemy team and have at least a moderate chance of winning, but when the spotlight is on them they are more than willing to toss all that aside--at the expense of their teammates time and effort--and try to alleviate all responsibility from themselves for doing dreadfully. If they're queueing up WITHOUT an expectation of at least doing well, tell them to head on over to co-op vs. ai.

I also recommend to shove advice down their throat. If your snot-nosed teammate is solo-pushing without vision at 30:00 and half the enemy team is MIA, call him out on it. If they go 1/5 in lane and proceed to build fully-offensive without a shred of bonus HP or MR or whatever, call them out on it. Support didnt buy a sightstone and is working on pieces of a Sunfire Cape? Call them out on it. Oh, your jungler clearing camps while the rest of the team is trying to secure Drag? Call them out on it. They're going to give you lip but if you can back up your reasoning for why they're playing trashy then they'll learn from it.

I absolutely agree with this. I understand that it's a laid back type of match where maybe you can do some stupid stuff, but the idea is that you're still trying to win. I don't give two shits about you playing off-meta picks or trying out a new champion/build, but for god's sake you shouldn't be feeding hard and spamming "lol whatever" in chat because you just don't care. Like others said, it's a competitive team-based game. If you don't want to try and win, why are you playing?

The opposite happened to me in a BOT GAME(yea srsly) a few days ago when i was duo'ing(we were Rumble and Ezreal ), we all spawn in the crystal scar and me and my partner wanted to go to the bot side first, a heimer followed and was like

Heimerdinger "3 bot? seriously?"

Rumble "chill man its a bot game, we all got this" (for all i cared we could go 5 bot, we can't lose this way can we? its a bot game not pvp)

3mins into the game..we are hard stomping the game it was about to be over before 7 minutes.(no IP)

Riven "Guys please stop attacking the bots let them take hold of all of the objectives, we need to stall until 7 mins"

Ezreal "Okay we will wait until then for you"

me and my duo were goofing off at our base spawn because each time we left we would end up getting spam pinged away from the bots by riven..so we were pretty stumped on what we should do instead..so we camped at base for 2mins acting like derps to pass time, we wer not doing anything wrong, we were not afk, we were just acknowledging the wishes of riven, and we also wanted the ip so what else could we have done?

Heimerdinger camping on a turret solo afk killing anything that got close with his turrets

Heimerdinger "Wtf, why do we have 2 afk autists sitting at base? "

Volibear "idk"

Heimerdinger "i knew they were trolls the moment they said this was just a bot game"

Rumble "we aren't afk, you would know that if you actually took a look and stead of looking from your minimap (we were spamming taunts and dances lool) and yes its a bot game chill, riven didn't want us doing anything until 7 minutes because we were hard winning so what else could we have done?"

Heimerdinger "idiots"

I haven't played bot games in soo long i forgot that there were those who take bot games as seriously as ranked games.

And i 1000% agree with you disliking people using "its just norms" "not ranked" as an excuse to ruin other people's games i may be casual, but i also play to win not** just** to have fun. if we lose because we are bad then fair deal, but if we lose because of a troll who doesn't care and keeps throwing then it becomes anti-fun..
