Anybody ever try to play Lee Sin as a support?

I came across a thread talking about how leagues is lacking in "bad ass" supports. And it got me thinking, anybody ever try to Lee as a support? His W provides a modest shield for your ADC, his E provides a slow to help your ADC secure takedowns. And his Q can provide lane pressure and hard engage. He's also manaless so he can lane for a long time without having to back. Any opinions?

the manaless idea is cool for sure, but i think you would be much better off with a Shen

Its a thing, it just isn't optimal because he's more gold dependent than a typical support would be. There are a few other melee champs out there that fill the support role decently as an off meta choice, but its going to be hit or miss, and if its a miss, its gonna be a hard miss. Lee, Aatrox, Trundle, Nocturne, Pantheon, J4, for example are all completely capable, and have supporty aspects to them, but they are gold dependent, with really the only exception being Trundle. Trundle is a very good off meta support choice, that I wish people would play more often. He plays a rather passive lane, but I'm pretty sure he has more presence than any other support in the game once mid and late game come around.

Because he's off meta, how he performs in the role is probably highly dependent on the skill of the player wielding him. Great Lee Sin players can potentially wreck shop in bottom lane because they can utilize his hit to his maximum potential. Anything less and the player will bring a famished champion that will contribute nothing into the late game.

Lee support used to be relatively common in solo queue. It was barely workable and I think most ppl's thought on it was kinda like "oh great I got a lee support..."

As a dedicated Lee player, he isn't played support because he doesn't offer enough. His e slow is lackluster and to get in range to proc it is hard enough against most meta champs. It can work situationally but he really isn't that good in solo q
