Support Lanes vs. Carry Lanes

I have been wondering why high elo support mains used carry lanes to get to current ranks? Now, you might say I'm crazy, but I have watched my fair share of streams and videos to realize that the carry potential is simply higher in other lanes. I'm just want to know form some players who are better than myself how to change that?

The issue with rising as a support is that to do so you need to get paired with someone good enough to make use of your skills while carry lanes can succeed with less dependence on their team to do well.

Play zyra or brand or something

Not even joking

So basically a useless position unless you play a carry that happens to not need as many items? I was thinking that was the case myself haha

If you're a lot better than your current elo, then yes, playing a carry role is probably the easiest way to climb. As a low damage support(so excluding champs like Brand/Vel/Zyra), you are relying a lot on your team to win.

That being said, if you can play a consistently good support (always ward, dont tilt, help your adc snowball), there's no reason why you shouldn't climb. You'll just climb slower compared to someone playing carries.

Janna and Nami are my two highest winrate champs atm: http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=HannahOfPiltover , I only queue solo in ranked.
