I hate ascension. I miss the expanded game rotation.
Ascension is even more mindless than original dominion. There's no coherence to the gameplay. Very little sense of teamplay. In the sense that it's difficult to feel like you can actually strategize your way to victory.
But that's not even the part that bothers me about it the most. I wouldn't mind a brawl based mini-game if I felt like your brawling skill actually mattered as far as victory is concerned.
This probably has the least sense of being able to contribute meaningfully to victory by your actions. You can kill and win teamfights, but there's no guarantee your team is able to keep on top of capturing crystals while you do it. You can go around and capture crystals yourself, but if your team just dies and feeds then it won't matter. I often feel like my team is winning the brawling aspect of the map, in terms of kills, but for some reason just keeps getting behind in points. Or they clearly are behind in killing, but there is no real chance to offset that by capturing the map. So it often feels like the worst of both worlds.
Dominion reborn is a lot of fun. Funner than the original dominion. There's a real sense of strategy because your capturing movement is more restricted. Poro King is fun because you get to choose your hero and there is a sense of objective, push and counterpush. Urf is fun for the experimenting and wild plays. Hexakill is fun because it's like a mini version of a normal game on steroids. Do everything you normally do, but do it in bigger battles more frequently. Even that turret based minigame was funner than ascension.
Why are we stuck playing ascension so much when there are so many better mini-games out there?
