Ultimate Hat change was a terrible idea

Nobody complained about Ultimate Hat. People like it.

I like Nimbus Cloak, but you didn't need to remove Ultimate Hat to make room for it.

It is a terrible addition to the domination tree because you put it on one of the most important tiers for domination. Most people are not going to want to give up healing or movement speed for marginal ultimate CDR reduction, especially when it needs kills to stack.

By making it require kills you've gated most champions from being able to use it effectively.

Assassins aren't happier with this change because they were happy taking movement speed and then picking up ultimate hat from their secondary.

Mages, supports, and other ultimate dependent champions are unlikely to ever use ultimate hat now. Most don't want domination as a secondary tree if they can't benefit from anything else in the last tier. It's not a very appealing tree to non-fighters/assassins. Maybe only a very small amount of champions actually could potentially like this change, like snowballing fighters who go domination/precision and don't care about out of combat movement speed but rely on their ultimate more than in-combat healing. But generally this change screws over at least five times more champions than it benefits.

Logged in to lend my total agreement.

Why on earth did they have to take a cooldown rune out of sorcery??

I could have transcendence, presence if mind, and ultimate hat on Lux (who I main, to admit a bias), and it felt GREAT.

Guess assassins needed it more? I'm too used to having anything good taken away from her as soon as I get used to it feeling workable.

I just want to know why. Would nimbus cloak make more sense for assassins, so they can either pursue or escape with their often mobility-based ultimates? It just makes no sense.

Ultimate Hat went from being a competitive pick vs it's peer runes to basically outclassed.

It also went from being easily accessible to mages to being more assassin focused, but the thing is asaassins already have low CD ultimates, so ultimate hat isn't even that appealing to them.

It requires kills and or assists. Everyone can stack it effectively, and you can even get stacks before you get level 6 now.

I like this change more as i can now get both mana band AND ultimate hunter.

Let's add an assassin rune in a mage tree while removing one of its only good runes for mages to put it in the assassin tree. Rito'rded really

I'm pretty upset too. When I play Eve, I take sorcery + ultimate hat. Manaflow and nullifying orb are both pretty bad on her ;-;

I want my ultimate hat back too!

MrHaZeYo6/3/2018, 9:04:37 PM2 votes

Actually, assists stack it too.

Gosh, I hate being able to select Manaflow Band AND Ultimate Hunter at the same time! Fuck you Riot, I was so happy having to choose between these two!

I'm for the change, and I believe Riot decided to put it there because along with it having a similar stacking principle like the hunter runes, they wanted to simply change up secondaries hitting domination for those wanted the ultimate cooldown, especially because it's possible to stack it faster if you do really well early on, so it's potentially better while being potentially worse if you aren't getting kills or takedowns soon after you hit level 6 than the older one. The other reason is to help make the new nimbus cloak more appealing.

You have a point that many champions who go to the domination path will get the other hunter runes, but again I think their intention was to try and align certain similar runes in the same tree while also bringing in the new rune nimbus cloak for people to try out different rune combinations. I like the change Riot made and am also liking the new nimbus cloak, it's like a mini phase rush which is surprisingly helpful for many champions, with mages included and would probably prefer it over the ultimate hat if in the same tree(Vitkor, Cass, Vlad, TF, Zoe, Swain, etc. would all very likely prefer nimbus cloak than ultimate hat if having to pick between the two), but now if you want u can get both ultimate hunter with nimbus cloak; I think being able to get nimbus cloak with ultimate hunter both in the sorcery page would have been too convenient and too dominant, considering they synergize well. I agree with the change Riot made for this.

Some of you talk as though it's a bad thing that you had two quality runes on the same tier. That's a sign of good design, not bad design. One is for early game, the other is for late game.

I don't see any reason to believe they made this change because they wanted to make it easier for you to stack manaflow band and ultimate hat together. Especially when they changed the way it stacks. Nor was there really a need for that when they are geared for different goals.

It would have been prefect to leave it in the tier it was on and just add Nimbus Cloak to that. Some champions I want that early mana for harass. For some Nimbus cloak is perfect, but for others it is useless - but for the ones whom it is useless on, they often got a lot of value out of Ultimate Hat.

I wasn't happy about having to choose between Ingenious and Ultimate on Lissandra.

But now I'm Zyra running around with a 1-minute cooldown on my ult without giving up MFB.

So I'm fine with it, but it's still a dumb change.

Risen296/4/2018, 11:25:37 PM1 votes

This change doesn't work out for the better on any of my frequently played champions.

Teemo is the one I'm most disappointed about. I love mushroom CDR builds. Instead of having the 15% CDR easily soon after level 6, I may wait all game to fully stack the bounty. And I can't take both ultimate hat and cosmic insight together, because neither of those trees is well suited to be Teemo's primary. Especially if you're going mushroom build. Teemo wants sorcery primary.

Yorick needs ultimate hat desperately because of his reliance on his ult, but it's harder for him to stack a bounty. And he gets more out of transcendence or gathering power than any other option in the domination tree.

Talon can't have both out of combat movement speed and faster ult cooldown. Both of which are important to him.

Domination is an unattractive tree unless you're an assassin, period.

If you can't benefit from sudden impact, you probably don't want to be in the domination tree.

warpenguin5556/4/2018, 2:46:16 PM1 votes

I think the hunter line in domination needed to have more choices for sure. Too many times I've went into domination and didn't feel like any of the 3 were good picks. The solution didn't need to be moving ultihat there and giving mages something almost none of them want though.

I don't know, it being in the domination tree does give me an excuse to take zombie ward on a champion like Soraka.
