Armor Penetration and Rune Diversity

First off, I would like a serious discussion on this issue.

I have been roaming the forums to see many players complaining about item 3142 (especially item 3142 and item 3147 and item 3036 . These Items with and/or combined with Armor Pen marks and Armor Pen Quintessence give too guaranteed damage. These items and runes are still so cost effective that it makes crit builds less viable (also there is no item 3143 like-item that will stop an ad from stacking Armor Pen like how it reduces crits, which may or may not even occur due to RNG).

Second Topic of conversation:

Seals and Glyphs give 0 diversity to adc's in terms of options and the stats that they give are plane pathetic (viable options include MR, Armor and the occasional Cooldown Reduction). Basically, defensive runes in seals and glyphs are typically more efficient to get instead of harder carry options. Similar problems exist for AP champions in the Marks and Seals areas in terms of offensive options.

Rant (This part is not necessary to read): Can we please get a rework on rune diversity? I got extra IP layin around I wanna have more fun theory crafting and testing different build diversities. Upvote this post if u are tired of the same build every game on certain champions or even 2 different builds being viable on certain champions. Many champion kits could benefit from the potential of dicing up the rune diversity and early game stats.

Tell me what you all think!

TL;DR Armor Pen is OP and ADC Rune Diversity could use some work in the glyph seals area. Make builds diverse again.

Indeed, but I think it's because they're focused on other things. Eventually Runes need to be reworked aswell :P

As to ArmorPen vs flat AD, the latter is way better early, I feel at least.

Whenever I put 15AD on I'm like "oh my, so much damage" I get quite impressed. But overall I think armor pen is better. AD helps the snowball going I guess

I feel like ur right to an extent, AD is better if the opposing team has squishies only, but in higher level play u dont get team comps composed of Khazix jungle, Heimerdinger top, Annie mid, Sona and Corki bot all with offensive setups.

In general, Armor Pen is 20% more efficient, if you don't believe me check any league stat tracking site such as league of graphs to show you that I'm not full of the doodoo. This efficiency is the same for Gold to Masters, kinda shows a disturbing trend. I wish Crit were more of a viable option since blowing people up is fun.

Also there are more efficient ways to get AD than through flat runes (the nerfs made flat ad almost non-viable in top level play) like getting natural talent and trading off vampirism and going for 1 life steal quintessence (More AD through masteries with same level of Lifesteal as pre natural talent buff). K alot of this may not seem to make sense and gibberish but just play with the stats and trade off options with masteries and runes and you will see what I mean (with a little bit of maths)

I don't doubt that, I did say I believed armor pen is better overall. I dont know numbers on it though.

But ye I get what you're saying with the runes and masteries,

Vampirism = 2% LS Natural Talent = +2AD LvL1 / +10AD LvL 18. AD Quint = 2.3AD

So you go natural talent instead of vampirism plus 1 LS quint which is 1.5% life steal, it is more eficient :p

1.5% LS +10AD Lvl 18

As opposed to 2% LS +2.3 AD

Ya that's exactly what I was talking about :P, I was too lazy to post that, good job!

Armor Pen is better in Almost all instances. Considering 15 dmg late game compared to 12 armor pen which increases your damage in percentages when the armor is reduced.. It scales FAR harder. 4-6% damage increase FAR outweigh 15 dmg AD come late game.

Ya man, It's pretty ridiculous, exactly what I was trying to get at. I think it sucks that alot of other options are made obsolete by how items like item 3143 interact with the other builds. As if crit wasn't bad enough being RNG, the "sure thing" (armor pen) deals MORE damage consistently and this is why crit isn't seen as much in NA.
