An idea for Randuin's Omen

Mira Arya Enthe··2 votes·323 views

Been thinking about damage mitigation recently. Just used a Randuin's Omen to beat a Kayle on Shyvana(no attack speed or Guinsoo's stacks for Kayle)

But then I got to thinking. It is such a situational item, and 90% of games people will choose another HP armor item. Usually Deadman's Plate to help with the kiting meta.

What if, to make Randuin's better against the main enemies those who wear it face(ADCs) we did this.

Ranged attacks will slow the attackers attack speed by 20%(up from 15%). This effect is halved against melee attacks to 10%(down from 15%)

This change would help champions who have to face tank ADCs during kiting and team fights. Like Udyr, Nasus and Shyvana among others. But by nerfing the effect against melees, it doesn't hurt these same champions.

Comments, ideas and criticism welcome. Especially from high tier players and number crunchers.

i think the item is fine as it is i build it regularly on my top laners vs heavy auto reliant comps where i need hp and armor.

I build Randuin more on my Support Tanks.

For Toplaners, I usually rush Thornmail if I need anti-auto item, then go for health to complement thornmail, and I later build Deadman/Sunfire more than Randuin. And if I don't specifically need anti-auto, Deadman or Sunfire are just more generalist and better overall items, imho.

On the other hand, as a Support, you probably won't be focused as much and you don't have the income to realistically plan your build 3 items ahead*, so just building Randuin is better, and the AoE slow is good team utility that goes well with your role as a Support.

There are exceptions, of course, but that's my general feelings on Armor itemization.

EDIT: *(Even though, one could argue the HP on Sightstone already complement Thornmail, but I'm not convinced...)

the best part and most efficient part of sunfire is the aoe magic damage in the early game where mr is the lowest point of the game. getting it late game makes it one of the most inefficient items in game gold wise . so if you are a champ that benefits from sunfire it is best to rush early. thornmail isnt as viable with out some kind of hp behind it, other then the flat armor it gives its not ideal and cost efficient vs a team with only one heavy auto attacker. its best suited when facing multiple champs that rely on autos. randiums for the armor, hp, attack speed reduction crit reduction and the aoe slow active is by far the best item stat wise and gold efficiency

Purely stat-wise, Randuin, Sunfire and Deadman are roughly equivalent, it's the passives that make a difference. Randuin is definitely better for raw durability in large team-fights, but I tend to split-push a lot when I'm Top, so that's not an attractive point for me.

Outside of the durability, I much prefer the MS on Deadman to the slow on Randuin. As for Sunfire, even in late game, when you play a big fat Tank or Juggernaut that stays alive for hours, the damage does add up in the end, and it's helpful to clear waves or to split-push faster. I'm not saying Randuin is useless, but I think it synergizes much more with Supports role and play style than with Tops.

And Thornmail first is supposed to be bad, but I still find it's the best rush against people like Yasuo or Tryndamere Top. It's cheap, it lets you survive, and it's an early powerspike that surprises them, much more than Randuin, from my experience. And since it's cheap, you can go for Bami or Giant Belt just after and still have roughly the same durability for barely more gold than just Randuin. Or if you know early enough that you'll go for a Thornmail first, you can choose a Rune page with scaling HP yellows.

yasou isnt an auto attacker so other then the flat armor of thronmail it dont do much for you the best combo of items vs a yasou is item 3047 item 3143 also i tend to find getting thornmail on ap tanks/bruiser is more efficient when you run flat magic pen reds on them because the damage reflected from the thornmail is stronger due to magic pen ... same as sunfire.

Yasuo's Q applies on-hit effects. That includes the reflecting damage from Thornmail.

ok you still have little to no health , nothing to reduce his dps and the reduction of attack speed and crit damage is better vs yasou then thronmail

As I said above, since Thornmail is cheaper, you can buy a HP component on top of Thornmail for almost the same price as Randuin, and you get your powerspike earlier.

Basically, both are good, and you have to choose between reducing their DPS (with Randuin) or dealing them more damage (with Thornmail). From my experience, the damage from Thornmail is often enough to actually win the fight, whereas Randuin lets you survive but doesn't allow you to kill them. It probably depends a lot on playstyle and personal preferences, and whether you play a Juggernaut with some damages or a true Tank with mostly CC, but for me on a Juggernaut Thornmail works better as a rush item than Randuin.

ok so item 3075 2350 gold item 3082 1000 gold item 1011 1000 gold those two items are cheaper then item 3075 and it would only cost 900 gold to upgrade to item 3143 so a difference of total cost of 550gold. but to each their own.

Rito played around with the idea once that you get like 15% Attack Speed for each enemy champ you hit with Omen's active, they never did anythign with that though sadly :(
