Mikael's Crucible Midlane? vs AP Matchups & hard CC comps?

You don't get the small early game damage boost from Ability Power, but in exchange you get to spam all of your spells for effectively increased damage.

Athene's Unholy Grail:

+60 ability power +25 magic resistance +50% mana regeneration +20% cooldown reduction Passive UNIQUE - MANA FONT: Restores 2% of missing mana every 5 seconds. UNIQUE: Restores 15% of your max mana on kill or assist.

COST: 2700

Mikael's Crucible:

+40 magic resist +100% mana regeneration +10% cooldown reduction Passive UNIQUE PASSIVE - MANA FONT: Restores 2% of missing mana every 5 seconds. Active UNIQUE ACTIVE: Removes all stuns, roots, taunts, fears, silences and slows on an allied champion and heals for 150 (+ 10% of the target's maximum health). 180 second cooldown.

COST: 2450

So you trade 60 Ability Power and 10% Cooldown Reduction (Significant) for permanent mana sustain (Mikael's functions like morello's combined with mana font) as well as 15 extra magic resist and a passive that works as cleanse and heal combined - and it can be used on yourself OR to save an ally.

It seems silly, but now that Athene's is insufficient at sustaining early mana, if you buy this for 2450 instead of Morello's for 2200, you essentially get permanent mana sustain. And the Active is excellent.
