Am I the only one who feels like a 50% average winrate isn't a sign of balance?

Now before you downvote to oblivion and you still probably will, allow me to give you my unpopular opinion, now for a while I've seen people across the boards agree that 50% average winrate is a good sign of a balanced champion... Now this is where I must disagree, this is average winrate for everyone who plays the champ, meaning people who don't even main the champ still win 1/2 games with them... Now this is just my opinion and something I've thought about for a while, please feel free to correct me if mistaken, take it lightly guys :)

I'm pretty sure its not average winrate but total wins vs losses. I could be wrong that's not even my point.

You aren't clear in what your saying, you make a statement without a follow up qualifier.

The 50% winrate thing is as good as it gets. There is a lot more complexity in it. That's why the winrate in isolation argument is so bad.

You have to do some digging for real info. What's winrate average for people who main the champ. What's winrate for people without many games on said champ. Meta and items are a small but calculatable factor.

50% is just a rough glance area where you can get a general impression and work from there. It doesn't mean a champ is healthy neccesarily, but it doesn't mean they are unhealthy, which is why overall its a good average to shoot for/around.

And this is just a rough opinion :3

Sometimes I wonder what's best to look at..

Champion.gg or Lolking... ?

Either way both of them show KogMaw and Soraka at the top of the Win rates.

Through out the past two seasons, Janna has been constantly one of the highest winning champions, is she OP? Skill and understanding counters is a part of the game. If you can't accept that then leave.

What are you talking about? Janna???

This is false, and there's data for said noobs who barely play the champion.

http://champion.gg/champion/Riven

Take Riven for example. Now, some might say 48% is fine for a high skill cap champion who requires a lot of work to succeed.

Then you realize that her playerbase on average has over 130 games with her, that players with 125+ games on her make up nearly a third of her playerbase, and that Riven players don't actually pass the listed "average" win rate until 50-125 games.

It's more complicated than what you or other people think of it.

Yes. All the champions have noobs, non-mains, bronzies, etc. playing against other noobs, non-mains, and bronzies which still means the average should be 50%
