Impressions on Cull?

So I've taken a liking to item 1083 when playing Sion top lane. Downside is that if I suck at farming (Last hitting is still something I need to master sadly, sometimes I hit too early or have the minions kill them before me) and against some match ups I won't be able to farm (Though some people don't mind passive farming. Would probably be different if I was Nasus).

How do you all feel about starting with item 1083 rather than item 1054 or item 1055 for top lane Sion?

Most of the time I don't remember Cull even exists.

I don't play ADC, but if I am playing a defensive support like Soraka or Janna... I recommend my ADC get Cull over Dorans.

It's decent but similar to Executioner's Calling, people often choose not to deviate from their builds even when it is beneficial to them.

I bought it the first few games and it was okay/cool. Overall though I think Doran's blade is just better. The lifesteal scales way better. The health is more valuable early (to survive a gank or win a skirmish). Often the goal of your first lane is to back with enough gold for a larger purchase - Doran's items typically give you that through extra sustain. Cull should never hit it's 100 minion peak before your first back so it seems pointless to me.

If cull gave gold early (say half at 50 and half at 100) then it'd be interesting if the extra gold at 50 creeps could let you base for your big purchase more easily.

item 1083 out heals item 1055 untill you get 101 ad, but item 1054 is probably the beast for a top tank. meddler said he plans on buffing cull soon tho

A buff? Interesting. I look forward to it. Really helps getting my items.

btw that is a Soon(tm)

It's also on hit heals so it works on other abilities as well which is definitely something to consider about overall healing.

I like to pick it on 'farm' top lanes on my second back. When I know the lane will just stall out until something interesting happens mid or bot.

I think item 1083 is a waste of gold. You're paying 450 gold to get 400 gold from farming (while constantly having to pay attention more to minions than Champs or the minimap) with little-to-no stat benefit in return. It doesn't even build into anything. Even item 1055 gives you more, especially with Sion. Those with high Attack Speed generally want Life Steal more than Life on Hit...I'd rather have Doran Blade's increase-by-items-and-level regen than a "true" regen based on hit (hint, they're both based on hits because Life Steal is based on the damage you do). And to find that it becomes useless after the passive is gone, when Doran's Blade actually still has use after you build other items...yeah, I'd always go with my trusty item 1055 than Cull. Unless you're using abilities/items that increase its on-hit portion...other than that always go Blade. That's not to say I'll always use the Blade. I've started to use items like item 1027/item 1004 for mana and item 1028/item 1006 for Health, because I'd personally rather be able to stay out longer in the beginning while also building into other items. The Doran's items are great starting weapons when you want/need them, but they don't build into anything and they're useless if you can't make good use of them.

400 plus minion farm.

By the time you fulfill that condition, either 1) your opponent(s) are feeding or incapable of doing much to you, in which case you've pretty much won your lane and Cull becomes an Overkill item, or 2) you'll have already started Roaming, which by the time the 300-gold condition is met you've already gotten assists or kills on enemy Champions. If you really want the gold that bad, get item 3301, item 3303, or item 3302. The amount of Life you get from item 1083 won't help much when you've already started building other items because of the gold you got from fulfilling any of the 3 items' conditions. They even cost 100 gold less, meaning you can actually buy Potions (or a Refillable Potion) or Wards. The bonus of being able to build into item 2302/item 3069, item 2301/item 3092, and item 2303/item 3401 far outweighs the benefits of such an item like Cull. I just don't see the benefit of getting an item whose only use is incompletely refunding what you spent on it. Even if you're getting "400 plus minion farm", you'd still have more gold if you just spent nothing. Or you could get a couple Health Pots and save the rest for something more worthwhile like item 1053.
