A 40 - 50 minute SR game is fun.
Title.
But now its max 30 minutes.
Hope it gets tuned back to fun soon.

Longer games allow you to ...
Explore more items / builds / paths
Experience favorite champs early / mid AND late
Fully utilize all strategies that longer games require
Dragons actually will mean something (aka getting to a 5th)
Long games let you see the "pinnacle" of champ's strengths
Long games turn into "team games" by default (aka team must work together to win or at least make into a "long" game)
Comebacks.
MOST IMPORTANT... my beers usually last 40 - 50 mins before I'm ready for a refill... = fun.

If I wanted short uninteresting games... I'd play HoTS.
LoL > HoTS because of the multiple layers in which a player can immerse themselves in a single game.
Honestly, idk why riot decided to turn SR into 20 minute snowball shitfests when they could've just paid some attention to Dominion.

It's preseason... so the mad scientist are expirementing right now.
All we can do is keep giving them feedback.

good news is dominion is probably the better game mode now
I'm surprised barely anyone likes Dominion though.
Nobody is toxic, you get stickers for doing good, every champion, spell, and build path is viable, and if you suck at the game you can still do well anyways.
I have played for way too long and I think i've only played a dozen Dominion games simply because the Queue takes forever. Over all it's a pretty neat game mode that gets too much shit for being different. Sort of like Yorick Mori
or my broski Ohm-wrecker
.

THIS^ That's right. Dont get why such short games are supposed to be good. Well everything feels like Lvl 15 at the moment, let's wait for Pro-Games. ^^ If they are such one sided as well there is no reason for me to ever watch a pro game again. x'D On the other hand - maybe people will realize that you dont have to spam FF at the 10 minute mark!!!
I know the feel. The lacquered horn I drink beer from is 16 ounces. I end up with this awkward 'tween' beer if it's a shorter game. Do I chug it and wind up drunk in a few matches or do I just run out of beer in my next game? There's no GOOD choice.
Like Masteries for AP mages
I can support the beer argument.

While I feel all of your points are valid, I want to say the above one is so true. They just put a bunch of new items in the game. I might only get to purchase one in a game. Makes me sad. I don't know why the made games shorter yet items more expensive.
You mean these very very close nailbiting 40-50 minute games i suppose yea they are the most fun.
They are by far some of the best experiences. Because if a game can go on for that long then it means that both teams were properly, evenly matched, especially if they're close for the majority.
Win or lose those games are a heck of a lot of fun.
I don't understand how ppl are having shorter games.. mine are just as long as before..

I haven't done Ranked in the preseason, but on avg, the normal SR games I've played are 25 - 30 (ish) minutes.
Do try ranked. Normals do go quicker mostly because people don't care as much and give up much sooner. I noticed that as well.

You could be completely right.
But the amount dmg needed to take a turret is the same in normal and ranked.
I don't see towers lasting a whole lot longer in Ranked or being more defensible.
I tried ranked. lots of "ff 20" and "gg open mid". I'm saying no to each surrender vote but it's getting harder and harder.
I still have games 37-49 minutes -_-

I'm sure longer games do happen.
But the new norm is a much shorter game.
Average SR games should be longer than 25 mins.
LoL has a lot of great complexity.. A shame to condense it.
.... It's the difference between eating a steak n' potatoes dinner vs jamming it in a blender and having a steak n' potatoes smoothie. The flavors are still there... But just not as satisfying.
Most of my games are around 30-45 mins which i am fine with

I would like to see stats from Riot.
You could be right and some players are just expirencing statistical anomalies compounded by the strength of ADCs.
My games have been 25 - 31 (ish).
Well I do main rengar who is a late game champ, so Its my goal to get there. But If i started playing lee sin more, perhaps id see more 25 min games
In my opinion, the reason games in pre 6 are turning into "total snowball shitfests" is that people are out experimenting a bunch of random things like adc jg top mid, along with new items builds. We are experiencing yet another meta shift and assassins are back into business ... So overall there are those who are already getting the hang of something and those who area still clueless. Making for some chaotic games.
Just a matter of time before people get used to yi counters and banning raka.
Then again my opinion is based on my personal experience. Feel free to destroy my selfesteem.

Sure, players trying out the new OP ADs is part of it.
A bigger part is the wet noodle towers dropping like... Wet noodles.
I agree that something needs to be done. I have had two games that went 60 minutes and 45 minutes recently, but that was due to the enemy team not finishing us off when they had the chance.
every other game I've played so far since the patch has averaged 20-25 minutes. It's boring because I like building for the late game and late game champions. Hell by the time I've finished my
on
the games over and I'm sitting at mura and a second item! (this is including decent farm and champion kills/assists)
Don't even bother playing Kogmaw these days as unless you get super fed by a braum, you're not having an impact by the time it matters.
I personally don't mind them shortening games by a few minutes, but they need to seriously rebalance some champions if that's what they are going to do.
Nasus needs to get 5 stacks on minions.
Cassiopeia needs her passive (or even better remade)
ROA and seraphs need to stack faster
Sated needs to stack faster
Among many other changes

A shorter LoL ... is a less fun LoL.
A big part of LoL's fun equation is the degree to which players can immerse themselves in the multiple layers of the game.
If average games last 25 mins . . .
Full item builds, gone
Itemization condensed into 3 items
Item builds will stagnant more than usual (ugh)
Teamwork severely impacted (aka no late game)
Team fights also greatly reduced
Rarely get to expirence fullness/pinnacle of champions (levels + items)
Many more changes required, aka 'condensing'. RoA / Seraphs / Veigers / Nasus / Drags / Barons and so on to accommodate a condensed SR.
And more...
Okay, this isn't entirely true. I have more games ending sooner, but I've still had those 45 minutes games recently.
ikr, why would people want short stomp games? the real fun games are the ones that are very close with all lanes pushed into inhibs and are eventually closed by a good play, those are the games you feel satisfied after playing, not a game where bot lane goes 0/2 and they get into inhib at 15 minutes
I like longer games too, but some people like shorter ones. That said, since there are champions specifically designed to be strong late game, there actually needs to be a late game to get to in order for them to fit in the game.
I disagree. Personally I find 30-35 minute games to be the most enjoyable because I actually feel like playing League more after those. After 1 50 min game I'm just like "I'm done..."
Personally, 30-40 minutes is my "sweet spot" for games. Generally if they last longer than that, they last too long and feel drawn out, and generally if they are shorter than that, then the game was most likely a stomp in one direction or the other.
A 40-50 min SR game is fun, I mean you play a game that you love during a game for 40-50 mins long, whats not to love. I had my fair share of 40-50 min games before this new season, I also had my share of 20 min games where my team or the enemy team gets destroyed. Its all about telling your team to play passive until late game. Most 50+ min games last that long because of the team comp. Example if a team has a Jax and/ or a Mundo chances are those games will last longer because of the late game power spikes for those champions. Just stay positive in your games ahead/behind and just play passive if behind farm up, farm your jungle or " push pull the lanes" where you cs the lanes without pushing the lanes too far, and you will make it to late game.
Remember what you say because some people like longer games, but when the games are long and you play 3-4 in a row chances are the same people like you complain because the games are too long. 6 out of 10 games I play that games that are 50+ my teammates want to rush the game at that moment because they feel the game has gone long enough, even if rushing it would make a possible win into a lost because they cant handle the pressure that comes with longer games.
Have a good one ( sorry for long reply) I know reading is hard
My last game was pretty long. We were loosing the whole time and the support quit early in but we still won and it was real fun. I was playing vayne and her late game is op. It was the first game I've played where we all grouped at base for a few sec to think of the best way to win. But pretty much every other was 20min surrender and yeah there are not as fun
but if you have to pee you're stuck in a neverending cycle of hate and suffering
My games all end at like 20 minutes. But no one will surrender or end so the games drag out to 40. :/
longer games are not more fun unless you have unlimited time to play this game.
que + champ selection + loading + game = 1 hour? No thank you from those of us with full-time jobs.
yeah, watching long range mages brain afk farm and outscale all of the early champions was so fun to play against.
I get tilted even thinking about the c9 game in worlds against IG where they had a fucking QSS veigar because clearly a box that stops all dashes and flash isn't enough escapes.
right now you can actually take ignite top lane and beating your opponent in lane actually counts for something since you can apply heavy pressure in to other lanes after grabbing your tower now.

Not like Yasuo. What a fun champion to have to deal with in lane!
he's a piece of shit I permaban as well. I can't even enjoy myself when he's 1-10 because he'll do some obnoxious dashing bullshit and 100-20 me anyway because lol crits.
Everyone who saying that games average 25 minutes are lying. The games are averaging 33-41 minutes but I would like to see them at 40-50 minutes with that occasional game that goes 50+. If you want a shorter game play twisted treeline. Actually I would love to see a solo queue twisted treeline.

I haven't ranked yet in preseason, so maybe ranked is longer.
Normal feels shorter.
Certainly towers are wet noodles now which may contribute to a perception the game has sped up.
TT solo-quebwould be a w e s o m e.
Long game
Long game
- is prone to AFK due to dog eating someone's laptop.
- is boring as everyone falls off besides long-ranged mage, adc and tank.
- is annoying as team fails if you have just one retard who refused to participate.
Then LoL is not the game for you (at least SR is not the map for you).
Play HoTS if you like brainless amusement.

Hey, that's uncool.
HOTS is fine game. And by far less toxic.

That basically just leaves Assassins, a class that can still stay relevant in the late game, if they play smart. Any of the other roles you mentioned also need to play intelligently, or they'll get blown up too.
Also, and this is just my opinion, I think late-game is the most fun part of the entire game. Laning is okay, but I prefer full five-man teamfights over the skirmish-style fights that happenin the early-mid game. It's when most champions are at full build and everyone's really hit their full potential.
And glass melee (Yi/Jayce) Bruisers (Nasus/Garen/Darius) Mid-range mage (Swain/Vlad/Pantheon) Mid-range on-hit (Teemo/TF/Kayle)
Team fight is ok. but too much variables contribute, including lucks, communication and retardation. The problem with late game being, people with actual skills stop growing (6-slot limitation) and have to rely on weak players to maintain the advantages, some of which are retarded, uncooperative, or just non-English speakers. Since we cannot control who we play with, I prefer less emphasis on external factors.
" - Game Duration Game duration, and snowballiness, has been one of the things we've spent the most time looking at and talking about since the preseason launch. So far it's looking like the average game is a couple of minutes faster. There are some changes coming in 5.23 that will likely impact that, in particular a change to Homeguard that gives a modified version to every player after 20 minutes, somewhat tougher turrets (see above), and changes to minion strength that cause them to push more if their team is winning (giving winning teams opportunities to siege/losing teams opportunities to farm and catch up).
In terms of direction, two of the big things we're looking at are the concerns that games are ending too often before late game and that a single mistake mid game may be deciding things too much, too often. We're also looking at whether games are too stompy in general. Some increase in stompiness is expected for the first patch of the preseason, as people experiment with new things, that's something that should fall off fairly quickly though. If not, we'll need to make some follow up changes."
