Would pushing VS and LW's cost up a huge amount help or hurt balance?

Like increase the cost of LW to 3800 and give it 80 AD instead of 35. And likewise boost the AP of VS to 120 and make it cost 3500. Same ingredients as before, just a huge jump in recipe cost

On one hand, it's really hard to rush because you are literally just holding onto a Pick and a longsword until you can get ~2600 to complete the item. On the other, it's enormously slot efficient and roughly the same in terms of cost efficiency.

The recipe inefficiency should be a meaningful tradeoff until extremely late in the game where you couldn't sit on 60 AP from ingredients even if you wanted to. I'm just curious if the tradeoff would be large enough to make it so that while both items are even more mandatory than before if a game goes on long enough, it may not last that long to be worth losing item momentum.

Or are the forums thinking that LW/VS are in a good spot and this change isn't needed?

I'm ok with either yes or no, just wondering why for both arguments.

LW/VS arnt so much as bought for the AD/AP, they are bought to ignore armor/mr.. increasing the price THAT much for stats that arn't super important for the item would be a huge nerf. Basically mid game--> Tanks would be super durable, and quite frankly tanks are in a pretty solid spot right now.

Late game the extra 40 AD is of course nice, but for the cost of your mid game ability to deal with a tank.. it's not worth. Their is no late game if you get absolutely destroyed early-mid.

Are they? ADC have crit and AS to help deal with tanks already. APC doesn't really deal with tanks. If they are sustained dps mages, they innately have ways of dealing with high durability targets.

They undoubtedly help, but the % Pen seems to function more for squishy killing when paired with flat pen.

Well that's because both items are cost effective regardless of how much armor/mr the enemy has. And have you ever seen an ADC try to kill a 300 armor tank with i.e shiv and BT? its usually doesn't go well man.

No, but I have seen ADC kill a tank with IE PD and BT. It's not as good as IE PD LW, but it's definitely doable. They aren't welt noodles, just not nuclear homing missiles.

Its usually pretty depressing to watch.. at least from my experience.

I'd be worried that it makes it even more of a must buy. One of the basic downsides of the item is filling a slot with a 2400 gold item. On a full build, characters that build them would ultimately end up only more powerful.

Last whisper being that expensive would make buying it more situationally than the "buy it 3rd/4th item every game because the arpen is stupidly cost efficient and the item is cheap" it is now.

I think this is a great change. They are supposed to be late game items, so make them have late game stats and a late game cost.

On the other hand, it would prevent builds that involve item 3134 item 3035 with item 3070 / item 3144 / item 3077 and 19 armor penetration runes from deleting squishies in the midgame.

it would make the armor/pen race even more snowbally. If you want help out tank-balance just get rid of crit.
