Simplifying the reason why dark harvest is too good.

  1. It stacks with multiple dark harvests. Which is why bot lanes like Karthus/Xerath are absolutely disgusting, because both players can proc the passive. If you have a literal full team of dark harvests, you instantly have an advantage in a team fight if they don't.

  2. Any amount of damage can proc it. ANYTHING. Passive damage (teemo poison, brand's flames, twitch poison, etc), item damage, (Liandries, Luden's, etc), ignite, smite, there are too many ways to cause the dark harvest stack to explode.

  3. It resets on kills. Even if you don't get the kill, it resets on assists as well.

  4. Because it's an infinitely scaling ability, it's value will never fall off, only getting stronger and stronger as the game goes on. If it only scaled on it's own damage, it would be a little bit less oppressive, but it also scales on your adaptive damage.

  5. It essentially gives every champion execution damage, which is horrible because if they already have an execute like Veigar, Pantheon, Garen, Lee Sin, etc, it amplifies the kill pressure.

I think limiting how it can collect souls or deal it's damage (i.e. lock it to autos only) would go a long way towards getting it to where it needs to be. At this point, old Dark Harvest looks like the holy grail of balance compared to this monstrosity.

A big fix would be only resetting it on KILL instead of takedown. That way the oneshot chain becomes much more difficult to pull off.

Another option would be to add a 0.5-sec per-target cooldown, meaning Dark Harvest can’t proc on a champion who has been hit with someone else’s Dark Harvest in the last 0.5 sec. This spreads out the burst and requires the users to keep hitting the target for a couple seconds to get off all their procs.
