Any tips on how I play?

Hello, this is Tibber strong, a silver 5 support main from NA.

I have recently been losing my games, even though I do good in most of them.

What ends up happening is that my top / mid starts feeding, and then we either win or lose based on that.

I just feel like its luck if I win a game or not, but I also feel like I need some tips. You guys got any?

It's hard to win a majority of games as a support main. I'm silver 5 support main myself. As a support your job is to help your adc and team, not carry. So when you get teammates that aren't that good, you're going to be pretty useless.

If you enjoy supporting and want to stay in that position, easiest thing to do would be to pick a champion that can hold their own or create a large impact in a teamfight. Heimer is a great support that can carry himself around as well as adc by straight out dealing damage with his rockets, zoning out an enemy jungle with his turrets or even soloing dragon at level 5 while the rest of your team holds their lanes. You can also pick a champion like Kennen. Early game Kennen isn't the best, although he can still get plenty of utility with zoning the enemy adc or even stop an enemy gank, but late game, Kennen can step into a teamfight and either stun just about everyone on the enemy team or just cause mass confusion as everyone tries to get out of his ult.

There are plenty of other champions that can be effective in the support role and help lead to a few more victories even if your adc is less than adequate, but if you want to make a serious improvement in your win rate, picking up a second main position would be the best start.

Looks like you main Thresh & Lulu. I got from silver 5 to gold 5 this season mostly playing support. I main Morgana & Nautilus . I haven't really been supporting lately and got gold back a couple months after season started so I was playing with mostly ex: gold & plat players and some ex: silver 1-2 players. So my teammates and adc were a little better than the average players you play with currently in silver 5. But never the less, it should not matter too much.

Its hard since I don't play lulu and I am not very good at Thresh so speaking specific items and builds is somewhat difficult. However this is my thought processes on support and what really should let you win games.

First thing first: laning phase. Lane phase you are probably pretty familiar with. If you watch the pros & streamers you will see some sick & aggressive support plays. It really comes down to reading your teammate & the enemies but what I try to do is get some poke on the enemy adc or support (adc > support but if support out of position hit them). If you are going aggressive then try and push lane and hit level 2 before enemy and try and land a grab (if playing thresh). If freezing then just play passive while trying to poke. If someone gets out of position then maybe try and kill them. Keep your tri bush warded (blue side) and river if your lane is pushed. Once you have a sight stone buy a sweeper so you can sweep enemy wards also try and always have a pink ward on the map. If your lane behind just play safe and try and keep adc alive and wait for a jungle gank.

If your lane is winning then you can focus on trying to kill the enemy but really its about trying to get kills on enemy bot lane without dying. Keeping wards and vision up so you don't get ganked. If lane is pushed look for opportunities to help jungle with drag, gank mid, help jungler invade enemy jungle etc. Basically... roaming.

Eventually game gets to the mid game so you have to focus on keeping wards up around objectives such as baron/dragon. Scanning where you think enemy wards could be and placing wards in important traffic areas. (look up guides on warding I learned a lot seeing where diamond & higher supports ward & why). If you are someone such as thresh or morg look for an opportunity to grab or snare an enemy out of position. Make sure your team is there to follow up if you go in (as thresh). This pick can lead to an easy objective such as a turret kill or dragon or baron. Keep doing this and keep pressuring the map with vision.

In mid/late game team fights really focus on peeling for carries and keep your allys alive. You probably have items such as item 3190 or item 3401 so remember to use items during fights.

Really probably the biggest thing is getting low risk picks for your team, not getting caught late game warding, and peeling. Focusing on those 3 things plus warding and map awareness should let you get to lower ranks in silver easily. Get even better at it and learn some other things and you should be able to achieve gold or higher as well.

This is really unorganized and I am sorry. I am not great, but you can definitely carry games as support. I got sick of playing support so now I main jungle and if I for whatever reason was in silver 5 I would just play other roles since I know my actual elo is higher and would try and carry. But if your best role is support there is no reason you cant solo carry as support to master/challenger. Just need to work on learning the game and improving and you will start making plays that win your team the game. Even though they might not be as flashy as mid or adc plays, supports can hard carry games but it usually goes unnoticed.

Edit: One thing I forgot that could be a problem is making plays at the wrong time. I see lower elo supports do this a lot and it kind of bugs me if I am adc or their on my team. Like you try and make that thresh lcs grab play and then go in but your team is not quite there so you end up going in all alone. Or players who fall behind in lane but keep trying to get kills so their lane keeps dying. Its really important to read your surroundings. If you notice your adc is just passive farming and doesn't look to be poking and you have gone in a few times and they haven't followed up then its a good idea to just not go in unless you have a nice advantage. Or if the enemy lane is up a few kills realize their adc is stronger then yours so dont try and fight them 2v2 unless the enemy adc is low health for some reason. Wait for a gank or for the enemy support to leave lane to roam and go in 2v1. There are a lot of examples to list off but things I see supports do is go in at the wrong time or get caught out trying to ward. If you notice the enemy support seems to have poor map awareness or keeps going in at poor times then try and bait them into poor fights and pick them off while they roaming. Just always keep your head in the game and looking for play opportunities and enemy ganks.
