If I do really good as a champion...

and I still get an S grade at the end of the game. yay!

But...

Why do i only get 1/8 of the mastery points I would have gotten If I won the game?

Like seriously, you can go 0/22/0 and win the game. You still get tons of mastery. Get 22/3/7 and lose, get barely any mastery.

What if you have the best teamwork, but their trynd just backdoors?

What if you have the best teamwork, but you have an intentional feeder / griefer? [slayer-jinx-wink]

Yeah speaking of feeders I'm looking forward to Shaco's free week being over. In my games they never communicate and run around amok. Once a Shaco last minute took smite and kept stealing my camps when he was on my team! I'm sure there are some good Shaco players out there, but man the ones I've been queued up with...

Well Shaco is crazy hard to play. We've all been there, first few games on a high skill champ.

Isn't mastery used to show off the individual skill you have with your champ? It should be gauged more on your performance(rankings) by yourself rather than by winning.

You could argue that carrying as that champ (and thereforewinning) would play a larger role, but you could also be the one getting carried, and do poorly or neutrally as that champ.

By putting so many mastery points into getting a victory as opposed to get an S, people often look at Mastery as a joke

disregardable1 votes

Riot would rather have mastery be unrelated to individual skill than have a bunch of kids running around not caring if their team wins or loses, and I agree with that decision as someone that plays to win.

Troll for Trump3 votes

Then that means that's Riot being stupid.

"We want to recognize you for playing the champs you love and give you feedback on how well you play them."

on how WELL you PLAY THEM, not whether o r not that champ is a hard hypercarry or what not.

Elikain1 votes

And your performance with a champion shows through your Grade at the end of the game, not at how much mastery experience you get from it. Winning with a good score is better than losing with the same one.

Troll for Trump2 votes

Yes it should be based on how well you play the champ.

Losing with a good score should give you as much as winning with a bad score; Maybe even more. That's what I'm saying.

If you win with a good score, then sure you get more mastery. If you lose with the exact same score yeah, you get a little less, but the difference between them shouldn't be that large.

Elikain1 votes

And it is, your grade solely depends on how you performed but the score at the end is Win or Lose dependant - aka your collective performance. As a team based game, you lose with your team and you pay the price collectively. Sounds like you want only your experience to matter.

With your argument, one can say that as long as you as an individual is performing excellently, you should always win? Despite your team losing, if you're too good for them (aka high Grade at the end), you should have a Win in your Match History, full Mastery Experience and even LP gains instead of losses? I'm just making a point here. This kind of favoritism towards individual performance would be pretty bad because League is a team game in the end.

##You are just one out of 4 other people in a team. Your job (and everyone else's) is to work together and win. The point of the game is to destroy the enemy Nexus.

Yea, my estimate of 10% of mastery score for losses is just that. Keep in mind that Riot bases their champion data from players that have 30+ games. On average, Mastery 5 requires about 30 games played with a specific champion, with a 50-50 ratio.

Troll for Trump1 votes

How are you STILL misunderstanding what I've said.

You get MORE MASTERY POINTS off getting a good grade off a champion. If you get an S on a champ, you get more points than if you'd gotten an A.

You get MORE MASTERY POINTS FOR WINNING WITH AN S THAN IF YOU LOSS WITH AN S.

You won a game with a champ, and got an S; You get more mastery points than if you loss a game with an S.

But lower the GAP BETWEEN the amount of points you'd gain if you won and the amount you'd gain if you got an S. Your champion score and individual performance should be placed at a higher priority than whether you win or lose FOR CHAMPION MASTERY.

Stop being a broken tape not even remotely addressing what I'm saying

Elikain1 votes

Your champion score and individual performance should be placed at a higher priority than whether you win or lose FOR CHAMPION MASTERY.

Again, you're the one refusing to admit that wins carry more weight than losses. Your objective in the game is to destroy the enemy Nexus and that means to win. You can individually perform well on a champion and that shows through your grade, but the experience you gain is dependent whether you complete the team objective or not. It's completely fair to gain a fraction of it for a loss than for a win. Wins give you a good base amount of mastery experience, a grade is a multiplier. Loses give way less base experience but the grade multiplier stays the same. The same is true for account experience and IP. You gain more if you win, you gain less if you lose.

Why does it work that way? Because you can get an S with playing extremely conservative and worrying about your CS and KDA, without helping your team out once to ensure that you don't pay for any of their mistakes - therefore making it possible to farm Mastery Experience by completely excluding yourself from any team effort in winning the game and focusing solely on yourself.

If you want to farm chests, you can earn S grades without winning games. But if you want mastery experience, your job is to perform well while working well with your team to win the game. Winning caries more weight because it's a team effort.

What. The. Actual. Flippin Tree.

You get MORE MASTERY POINTS FOR WINNING WITH AN S THAN IF YOU LOSS WITH AN S.

I' m not refusing it, I admit it. I said it twice, Jeez, READ THE POSTS.

IF YOU WIN IT GIVES YOU MORE MASTERY THAN IF YOU LOSE.

But the score and individual performance should be PRIORITIZED over it, as it fits RIOT'S INTENT FOR CHAMPION MASTERY.

This is not just a personal thing, but also Riot's.

Your score is determined a lot by how you contribute to your team, not just KDA; Objective kills, overall damage, healing, damage tanked, warding; Riot has taken measures to make sure it's not just solely based on KDA. So it does take objectives and teamwork into account. But the key thing is how well you do as that champ. Warding and taking objectives and winning can be done with every champ. Your performance as a single champ needs to have a lot of outstanding things to achieve champion mastery, and the player should be rewarded for doing so.

IP and XP are based on teamwork. Champion mastery on individual performance on a champion. IP is based on game length (it increase linearly). You do get slightly more IP for winning, but not as much as the game length Ip awarded. First win of the day is... self-explanatory.

What, you want them to add "First loss of the day"?

Mastery experience IS champion mastery which IS the performance, which gives you the rewards or whatnot. It gives you things as a prize for doing good with the champ, not for working as a team(Mostly individual; They support teamwork too).

Elikain1 votes

You're completely glossing over the fact that winning is a team effort and League is a team game, first and foremost. You're constantly saying you're not and that you understand that but then you still elaborate why your individual performance should be way more rewarding. You're may be right BUT your performance (your grade) is an individual thing but again, just a part of the equation that is tied to winning or losing the game with your team.

You are rewarded more for both performing well and winning the game, because you accomplished two things you needed to accomplish - you played well and you've carried your team to victory. You are rewarded less for accomplishing just personal things (in form of less mastery experience) however, your grade IS completely your own personal thing that is not impacted by winning or losing and your champion stats also reflect your performance. ##It is assumed that your overall consistent stellar performance with a champion translates to winning more games when you play as them - this is the key factor.

What should be important to you, if you're only worried about your performance, is your grade (how you performed in your game and how you hold up to the other players - same champion, role, server). The mastery experience is intentionally low for losses because of the potential problem i already explained:

{quoted}

Because you can get an S by playing extremely conservatively and worrying about your CS and KDA, without helping your team out once to ensure that you don't pay for any of their mistakes - therefore making it possible to farm Mastery Experience by completely excluding yourself from any team effort in winning the game by focusing solely on yourself.

Sure, there are more stats that go into determining your overall grade at the end than just CS and KDA but i assumed you play a carry role and that means taking less risks to ensure you don't die too much. In fact, taking less risks applies to all roles. This isn't how League works and the system existed before the Champion Mastery became a thing (Account Experience and IP bonuses at the end of the game + FWotD bonus). How much you get depends whether you won or lost the game + game time. Game time is a fail-safe mechanism to protect both sides from low quality games and reward them for the high quality ones with extra experience (mastery included) and IP.

KDA is not the only thing that the scoring system looks at, so your comment is kind of invalid.

disregardable1 votes

Oh, so you're saying it should be about how much you farmed all game? No thanks, that's even less helpful to the team.

JMoormann4 votes

Winning the game should always be the highest objective, KDA (which mastery is mostly based on) is mostly unimportant. By giving the same rewards for a lost game, KDA playing could become more frequent ("No I won't join the teamfight, I might die and get less mastery").

this is the exact reason

Bobloser35553 votes

because on average you will win more if you are good with your champion, there are good, well thought out reasons for some of the things Riot does, even if we don't always recognize it on first glance.

Elikain2 votes

Wins count more than loses, i think it's only 10% of the mastery score for losses. Why? Because it's a team game and you may have performed well individually but your team collectively lost the game.

let's be real here, mastery points have nothing to do with how well you play a champion. It has everything to do with how much you play a champion.
